This is a relaxing stroll through a tropical setting. You may even see fish, birds, and manatee. My kids loved the scenery.

Go during cooler part of the day! I spotted a blue crab in the water. We saw many Mangrove Crabs which are creepy but cool to see!

This is a beautiful short nature walk on the southwest side of the island. The walk begins on a shell path and then becomes boardwalk. Part of the walk is in thick mangroves. We were not lucky with our wildlife search. At one point on the path you are high enough to see the bay on one side and the gulf on the other. This is a nice free activity.

I am an area native that moved away many years ago because of work. My family still has a small place on Anna Maria that we visit each summer, but we've never visited the boardwalk area because it's usually too hot and buggy. This year with our kids off to college, we came a month early and brought our 2-man kayak. Paddling among and through the mangrove tunnels was outstanding. We were the only boat in the area, so it was very peaceful and the water was full of sea life.
We also saw the usual--osprey, ibis, heron, mullet jumping, etc. But we completely stunned to see a nutria swimming through one of the mangrove tunnels. Then minutes later we heard unusual cries in the next stand of mangroves. We paddled closer and saw a wildcat stalking it's way through the vegetation! In all my years down here I've never seen a bobcat nor a nutria. It was so amazing seeing these right on the bay! I highly recommend this jewel on the island.

We enjoyed our walk through the mangrove tunnels. It was a quiet and relaxing time. We saw different species of Herons and other birds. The boardwalk was well designed and maintained. The educational signage was informative and highlighted the importance of mangroves for birds and fish.
