“Don't miss it.”
Reviewed 11 November 2011

We had a very pleasant time exploring all the artifacts at the museum. And the historic cottage on the grounds is really cute. It was very interesting to speak with the woman who was volunteering that day. She was quite informative and very sweet.

“What a wonderful gem to have on this beautiful Island”
Reviewed 10 February 2011

This place is a must see for anyone on the Island. It's chock full of wonderful snippets of history! One of the first developer's ties to the Fig Newton, "On an Island with You" with Esther Williams was partially filmed here, authors, actors, and all sorts have contributed to its culture and is perfectly preserved in this museum. They even had a scavenger hunt for my kids! The small cottage on the side is fantastic view back into history and the gardens that surround it are truly a treasure; serene and a perfect example of proper Florida waterfront landscaping. Oh and they had wifi. Which was a blessing as reception in the north end is pretty splotchy.

The genuine warmth of the staff help make what is a fairly straightforward museum a little special. Definitely worth popping in to get a sense of the history behind beautiful, peaceful a.m.i. - makes you feel like you're an islander!

“A wonderful surprise”
Reviewed 8 September 2007

What a nice surprise! My husband and I enjoy history and often visit local historical societies and museums when we travel, so we expected the usual uninspired room full of old photos and yellowed newspaper articles. Instead we found a tiny gem. The small building was packed with information, photos, articles, and personality! By the time we had wound our way through the exhibits we felt that we knew the story of Anna Maria Island. Next door was a small cottage the historical society had recently acquired...fascinating. The volunteer staff were welcoming and loved sharing what they knew. The new curator has apparently turned the museum into this little treasure. Well done! Take a little break from the sun and wander through times gone by on the island.
