“The place to eat when you want a good home cooked meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

We go to AJ's every year when we vacation on St George Island. After eating seafood every night for a week we want something different and this is our favorite place to go. We get the buffet and it is amazing! We had fried chicken, pork chops, hamburger steak, mac and cheese, turnips, mashed potatoes and butter beans. Everything is AWESOME! Their desserts look great too but we're always just too stuffed to eat anything else! Already looking forward to eating here next year!

“Fried green tomatoes and pecan pie”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014 via mobile

Soul food is the staple at this local hangout. Enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and fresh mullet. And I mean fresh. The fish tasted like it was just caught. Husband had the fried chicken and he was very pleased. Service was a bit slow but the staff was very friendly and genuinely nice. Pecan pie was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Thinking about going back for dinner.

“Good food, but very poor service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

Based on the #4 ranking here on TripAdvisor, we decided to give this a try. Admittedly, we came early in the evening service (a little after 4 PM), but we thought that might be an advantage, as they wouldn't be as busy just yet.

When we walked in, the place was empty, except for a couple folks apparently waiting for to-go orders. After a moment, we were told to sit anywhere. Then we waited. And waited for someone to greet us, or bring us a menu. We were on the verge of walking out (after about 4 minutes with NO response), when someone came over and brought menus and silverware, and asked about drinks.

The same person came back a few minutes later with the drinks, and took our order. We didn't see her again. A different person brought the food. Eventually a third person came and refilled a couple of the drinks. We had to go to the bar to get the other refill we wanted, because after the food came, no one decided to check on us, despite the fact that the restaurant remained empty.

The food was good - we had blackened mullet, shrimp & chicken tenders, grouper and the house salad with grilled chicken. All of the food was prepared well, tasty and the right temperature, except for the french fries, which were hardly warm, and greasy.

Overall - we decided that the food was good (not great) but that the service was atrocious, and the #4 ranking was undeserved by our experience.

“Home Away From Home!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014 via mobile

Oh my goodness!! What a delight this find was to our family. It was seriously some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. My husband had the hot wings and they were also fabulous. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was wonderful. We would love to return one day!!
