Apalachicola River Inn
Ranked #2 of 3 Apalachicola B&B and Inns
Reviewed 8 July 2014

We spent 4th of July in this rustic, cozy little inn. The room was clean and comfortable. We sat on our private second floor balcony to watch the fireworks, and to just enjoy the view. It's a wonderful place to stay if you are looking for a private low key getaway. My only objection is there was no hair dryer in the bathroom. So bring your own. It's very pet friendly which is also a plus. The food was good in both restaurants, and the staff is extremely friendly. I'd go back there in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room.

joanmarie87, Thanks for your kind review. The Apalachicola River Inn is a one of a kind property on the mighty Apalachicola River, the only inn on the Apalachicola river and the only one there ever will be. That's a true definition of "grandfathered in". It is worth the effort to check us out. Come see our rooms, come to the river. Step out of your door and you are in "Old Florida." Walk out your door to begin your exploration of this unique town, all rooms are waterfront. Come and see us. "We will leave the wild life on for you." Caroline and Larry

We stayed at the ARI on 6/25 with our two teenage boys and it was really a nice stop along our way east from PCB. The town of Apalachicola is so cute and old fishing village-style. We had dinner at Boss Oyster (one of the two restaurants owned by the Inn's owners) - see separate review for the dinner. A great added value with this inn stay was the breakfast in the morning at Caroline's. Again, cute, quaint decor at this right on the river establishment. Loved the chandelier style light fixtures and twinkle lights which really gave the restaurant a special vibe. Breakfast was top notch and included fresh-squeezed (really!) orange juice. So for the inn itself, we stayed in one of the upper rooms, which have two double beds with a balcony and two Adirondack chairs out on the balcony/deck area from which to view the local fisherman, river and marsh, and wildlife. We spotted several types of fish and a manatee in the water and the sea birds drift right past your balcony. The decor of the rooms is beachy inn-like but nothing over the top. Beds were very comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and we would definitely stay here again if passing through this way! Tip: check out the Tin Shack on the corner for a great nautical inspired souvenir. What a cool place!

Thanks for your kind review, Dear travelers to Apalachicola. Can we invite you to stay at our inn. This is Old Florida at its best. Our inn is built on ancient docks that were there in the steam boat cotton days when when cotton was king. We entice you with a cooked to order breakfast on the river for each night you stay with us.Fresh squeezed orange juice included?Hell yes. Grab a fresh ground cup of coffee on us at 7 A.M. smell the bacon. See the early morning mighty Apalachicola River awake. Please don't sleep in. Witness Natures wonder. Come to our Inn. this is a rustic inn with built along the Apalachicola river. they are pet friendly. last time we visited we had an upstairs room that had a screened deck overlooking the river that we loved and would sit out there with our dog and watch the clam boats go in and out. for some unknown reason they took the screens off the deck so bringing a dog or child for that matter that could fall is out of the question. the reason they gave made no sense to either one of us. they do charge more for the 2nd floor rooms so i wonder how they can justify it now? the staff are still friendly and helpful and its within walking distance of all things and the free breakfast is still amazing, just not quite up to where it was.

This hotel has character, and I think we get it! We stayed over Mother's Day Weekend in May. There was a mix-up in our reservations ( don't know who's to blame for it) and but they quickly and efficiently took care of us. The gal at the desk even called another guest who had not arrived, to see if they were actually going to check in and did they need the larger room! The desk clerk was wonderful, and without having to check with managers, etc. gave us one night in the Rose Cottage at the same price as the room! Later that afternoon, she called to tell us we could stay there on both nights! WOW was that terrific! The Rose Cottage is private and had everything you could need to stay! We loved the whirlpool tub and the private balcony overlooking the river. It was very comfortable and unexpected! The breakfast was great, and the Oyster Omelette was delicious. Certainly worth the price! We also ate dinner at Caroline's and enjoyed the seafood. The staff was attentive, and kind, going out of their way to take care of us.]Thank you River Inn, and we will certainly be back!

It was a beautiful, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained room, with a wonderful screened in deck directly overlooking the river. It was just as beautiful on the outside with its beautiful courtyard and swings to sit and watch the activities along the river. The big breakfast was huge and delicious. The staff was nice and helpful. The only problem was at night, when the lounge became very active and it got so loud that I couldn't sleep. If you don't mind a lot of loud noise, then I would highly recommend it

Room Tip: Get a room as far away from the lounge if you want a good nights sleep

stammercindy, Thanks for your review, I notice that you stayed In September 2013. Things have changed. For twenty years we have had music on FRIDAY and SATURDAY evenings only. We are very careful to keep the noise level down. Any entertainer who does not comply does not come back. This is a long tradition. Our locals have enjoyed this weekend entertainment, in fact, we have a very well respected county commissioner who attends a lot with friends. Many of our Weekend guests at the inn also enjoy the entertainment. Thank you stammercindy for your kind comments. We are dedicated to the comfort of our guests. The inn has a unique waterfront location. Please come to see us, check our rooms. We offer a cooked to order complimentary breakfast to each guests. Join us early on our waterfront gazebo. Two days ago we had school of dolphins including babies feeding on a school of fish right in front of on the inn Awesome. Were are different from Disney and Atlantis. Our dolphins put on their show in FREEDOM. We are anxious for you to visit. We are happy here, Caroline and Larry Maddren owners

Ups: Quaint location with lovely, peaceful view. Down to earth, friendly staff. Breakfast may be the best part, featuring very good food (oyster omelets really showcase this town's specialty) served on a screened-in porch, if you wish, overlooking the river. Delightful! Also, despite sketchy service, we enjoyed "Boss Oyster," the attached restaurant that serves oysters a million ways, again with that great waterfront view. The downside: mildewy smell in our room, although the room appeared clean. After all, it's on the river. As other reviewers have said, it's "not for snobs." This is not a pristine, new place. It's got lots of character!

Room Tip: Second floor room porches are screened in; first floor rooms are not. All have river view. Some say...

Stayed here because of its fabulous waterfront location. Room was small as was bathroom. Room very nicely decorated, bathroom ordinary.
There were two seats on the veranda outside room and it was lovely to sit out there and look at the river.
Breakfast was included in the price but we waited a good 10-15 minutes before our presence was even acknowledged by sulky greeter who took OH's drink order and proceeded to kitchen without bothering to take mine! Our waitress came and apologised for the wait and sorted out my drink and our food order. Couldn't fault her, but the experience had been ruined by the sulky inefficient one, even though the breakfast was huge and good quality.

I've given this hotel an average rating. If I'm honest, the location makes it way above that, but due to the smaller than average room and dire initial breakfast service I think we paid too much.
