“Hidden Gem of Apalachicola”
Reviewed 2 August 2014 via mobile

We have once again stayed at this hidden gem for our weekend getaway for my fiancés birthday. As always the staff was fantastic. They did not have a do not disturb sign in our room but the owner walked by and helped us out by taping one on our door to avoid having to walk to the office. First time meeting the owner but he seemed like a really nice guy and is just another reason why I would return. The free breakfast is also a great bonus as it's nothing like a typical hotels continental breakfast. This breakfast is provided inside of Caroline's dining restaurant which is downstairs at the inn. I always order the oyster omelette made with fresh Apalchicola oysters and my fiancé always gets shrimp and grits and the shrimp are large. I have attached some pictures from our room which was 23. The only concern I always have is the high cost to stay there. $169 per night for a upstairs room and this hotel does not offer internet inside of the rooms. Other than the price and lack of internet this is a wonderful place to get away to. If you stay in the lower rooms you are able to fish right outside your room. Literally the water is about 5ft from your door which is great even at night the fish bite. Thanks again to the river inn and we will see you again soon as we are getting married October 4th and are very excited to book our family in this inn knowing how wonderful it is to stay there.

This place has the potential to be great. The location and the food are outstanding. However, there is no attention to detail and the attitude about it is--we're sorry but that's just the way it is. When we arrived, we had a hard time opening the door. There was about a quarter inch gap between the knob and the door, it was so loose. We tried the key in the deadbolt, but it clearly did not fit. We went to the front desk about it and they did come and tighten the knob--something so obvious it should have been done without a guest having to request it. But they said the deadbolt was not intended to lock from the outside, What??? This is a hotel accessible from the outside by anyone. All it would take is a shoulder to the door to break in. We were able to lock the deadbolt from the inside only. Also could only lock the knob by turning the thumb latch inside then pulling the door closed as you went out. So if you stay there do not leave any valuables in the room. The place is also dirty. The walls, doors, and woodwork are scuffed. Artificial flowers in the room were caked with dust. The bathroom tile around the tub in places and in corners had black on the grout. The room was charming and the view great. Too bad it falls short in other ways.

Like a previous poster I expected more. Bed super uncomfortable tossed and turned all night. Not sure how long it's been since washing blanket and comforter but the were tossed on floor. Tub very slow to drain and stood in 4" water while taking a shower. I don't need a mint on my pillow but spruce up is needed. Chairs outside room nice touch but I had to wipe down my chair before sitting in it. Full of dirt and bugs.
Boss Oyster rest was great. Freshly steamed head on shrimp and charbroiled oysters with that touch of hickory out does Dragos. Bartender super nice! Caroline's for breakfast was good service was great. Need some music in morning restaurant dead silent.
Overall probably won't be back til a remodel. Would suggest getting rid of the carpet everywhere. It holds a stench due to moisture. Go with ceramic tiles.

Had an enjoyable time at the inn. Loved that we were on the bay. It was nice and peaceful during the sunset and good company at night. Got to see an alligator and dolphin swim by. Rooms were decent but the breakfast at Caroline ' s was a delightful treat. Will visit again...

Okay- so this is not necessarily a place for those who are high maintenance. It's a very comfortable, quaint, relaxing place. Our room was clean, large and had a great private balcony on the 2nd floor. We loved sitting on the porch just chilling, reading, watching the boats and birds. We even saw a couple dolphins. The bed was very comfy. It was a neat, one of a kind place to stay and we were able to easily walk everywhere we wanted to go in town. There are 2 great restaurants on property. The free breakfast at Caroline's that came with the room was wonderful. The french toast and ham was particularly awesome. Their biscuits were obviously made from scratch, they were huge and fluffy. The fresh squeezed oj was the best I've ever tasted. Boss Oyster was very good as well, casual, friendly. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay- Except- one warning- and it's a big one: If you are not a bar-going, karaoke fan you better request a room far from the bar that is above Caroline's restaurant. We were warned in advance that it gets loud at night but the only room left for our dates was #15 which was 3 doors down from it. It gets very loud indeed, they even had a fight which sounded like it was directly outside our door but I wasn't about to open it to check. The bar closes at 1 am so the noise does end and it didn't ruin our stay- like I said, we were warned, but it would have been so much better if we had been able to get a room on the opposite side of the building. There is no hairdryer or coffee maker in room- just an fyi

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have private balconies. 1st floor rooms share and people have to walk past you as y...

After reading other reviews, we had high expectations for this Inn. A few things to note, the Inn website reads that it has wifi. This is only in the hotel lobby which is not very inviting. In 2014 it's too easy to provide wifi throughout the property not to do it. Very disappointed in this. Also, the ceiling fan in our room was not properly installed and "rocked" back and forth when it was on. Made a clicking sound. The river view is nice but it's also too hot to enjoy most days. Adding fans to the porches would be a nice touch. Bottom line, the location is perfect, the food at Caroline's was nice but not spectacular, the property could be spruced up and made more inviting. We've stayed at many B &Bs that were much more memorable. We had planned to discuss our concerns at checkout when we were asked "did you enjoy your stay?" Didn't happen, the staff at checkout only said "see you next time." Most likely not.

Stayed over July 4th weekend in a 2nd floor room. Accommodations we're clean and comfortable and the view couldn't be beat. If you like the being near water this a great place to try. The rooms face approx due East so the sunrise is a beautiful sight. Breakfast at Caroline's is a treat. We sat outside and it was a very enjoyable experience. The food is excellent and the service friendly. Location is great for all local attractions.

Room Tip: Stay away from the adjacent bar for a quieter night
