“A Nice House and a Slice of Florida History”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

The house has an interesting history. The Ormans were clearly an integral part of the area's history. The tour is well worth the nominal entrance fee!

“Park Services Specialist Mike Kinnett makes this an A+ Event”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

It was a simple house…but Park Services Specialist Mike Kinnett made this an A+ event! His efforts to secure period (and some actual family) furnishings/artifacts, his research on the Orman house/family history, his extensive knowledge of Apalachicola history, and his sense of humor made this our favorate event/stop in Apalachicola. That kind of education/entertainment @ $2 ea couldn't be found anywhere else!!

“Orman House”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

Ranger Mike was on medical leave but his backup Lance Kelly was excellent. He is a young ecologist and gave an incredible tour of this old house whose family kept everything intact for over 150 years. Lance gave a great tour of the house with lots of interesting information, including some geopolitical, historical and agricultural info that was fascinating for those of us from New England. His interest in the history of the place was more than obvious. It was nice to see someone so interested in his job. Definitely one of the less sterile and more interesting house tours that we have ever been on. The highlight of our trip to Apalachicola.

“Restoration and Conservation”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

We stopped to take a look and thoroughly enjoyed the home and setting. The restoration was excellent and the historic accounts of settlement and family life were very informative. It's a beautiful setting and the State Parks system always does a fantastic job. Although smaller, take a visit to the Gorrie Museum as well. The staff at both locations are top notch. It's no wonder that Florida's State Park System has won the nationwide # 1 designation three times!!!

“Worthwhile Visit to the Past”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

This antebellum home is packed with historical items that reflect a part of early Florida history as well as Apalachicola history. Thank goodness someone saw the value in renovating such a beautiful old home. We would go here again and recommend it to anyone who may be interested in touring a beautiful old home.
