The Apalachicola Maritime Museum offers a variety of river tours that are interesting and are a wonderful way to get to see the estuary and its plants and animals. All the captains and mates are volunteers so your trip's success depends a lot on who is assigned to your cruise. We have done two trips, one with a friendly and well informed captain and one with a captain who wasn't well informed and a bit grouchy which made the trip less fun. However, we still highly recommend these trips, especially for newbies visiting the region for the first time. The Apalachicola River basin bursts at the seams with fish, turtles, alligators, birds, and other creatures. What they should offer is a nature cruise with an informed naturalist on board who can point out and name correctly the plants and animals spotted on the trip.
