This Inn is a historic landmark in the centre of a very pretty and historic Floridian town. The rooms are all very different but beautifully furnished, some with four poster beds. It is spotlessly clean and offers every comfort. There is an excellent restaurant and bar and the reception and bar staff are friendly, warm and helpful. happy hour in the bar is pure joy and frequented by many local characters. The porches have beautiful traditional swing seats and rockers where you can sip a beer or cocktail and watch the sunset or the people. If you are very lucky you may get to meet the famous Lucky-Dog and her thespian human; this will guarantee a very entertaining interlude. I thoroughly recommend the Gibson Inn it's a must for all visitors to Apalchicola. From the Harrisons in the UK.

The Gibson Inn could sure use some updating, BUT the staff is wonderful. They offset everything else!

Room Tip: We were in the back upper unit because we had our dog with us. Good location for coming and going.

My sister and I saw this hotel on our family vacation to St George Island in August and we vowed we'd be back to stay in it when we didn't have the rest of our families with us. That is exactly what we did in one month later and we were so thrilled! Literally. We toured the quaint little town all day long, the city is bulging with history and the locals are proud and eager to share it with you. After our long day we watched a movie we had brought and with the many, many thick pillows we made ourselves comfortable, scrambling them everywhere. We went down to the bar for food and drinks on the porch, the night lavender in full bloom and smells wonderful. When we got back to our room our bed was made! Perfectly. We went to the Gibson for its "historical" flair but I guess when you spend the night somewhere with this much history, don't be suprised to get more than you bargained for! The staff actually apologized and offered to give us a different room, but we declined. We'd gotten more out of this experience than what we'd paid for! It sparked my sister's interest so much, she went back the next weekend to the Coombs Inn for the Ghost Hunter's Experience but she said it wasn't near the "experience" we had at the Gibson. We will definately be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 307

After reading about the murder mystery weekends on the Gibson Inn website, my fiance and I decided this might be something we would enjoy. We were not disappointed! We had a wonderful time exploring Apalachicola, meeting the other 'detectives', and enjoying the overall Gibson Inn experience. The entire staff, from the check-in desk, housekeeping, bar and restaurant were more than accommodating and friendly. Sue and Sharon were especially helpful, answering our questions about the area, and giving us the perfect choices for lunch on Sat. Our room was spotless, with a very comfortable bed. The ambiance of this historical hotel added to the 'mystique' of the weekend. We are eagerly looking forward to our next Murder Mystery. If you are looking for something fun and different, don't miss out on these weekends.

My husband and I recently celebrated our 20th anniversary at the Gibson Inn. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, suggesting some 'don't miss' sights around town. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. The entire Inn has a cheery, inviting appearance. You can tell that the staff takes pride in the appearance of the hotel. This was our first visit to Apalachicola, and certainly won't be our last. If you are looking for a great place to stay, the Gibson Inn is the place to be!

My wife and I have been visiting Apalachicola for many years. We've stayed at the other BB's but none have the character as the Gibson Inn. We did our first Murder Mystery this weekend and truly had a blast (especially since it was our 10th anniversary). The location is right in the middle of town, so it is very convenient. The ice cold Bass Ale on tap goes well with the atmosphere in the bar and porch. Our room was very clean and the bed comfortable. I'm amazed at some of the negative reviews because we've always had a great time here. It has free WiFi with strong signals. The chocolate desert served Saturday night was by far the best I've ever had.

Room Tip: Room 313 is where we typically stay

My wife and I wanted to get away for a long weekend and stumbled upon this little jewel right here on tripadvisor. I can not imagine what happened to the people who did not love this place from some of the reviews about it being worn and dirty! Is it old? Absolutly! It smells like a wonderful old piece of furniture you may remember from Grandma's house! Is it creaky? I am half the age of this hotel and creak just as much! The people are as delightful as you will find anywhere! Betsy, Jo and the head Stooge at the bar on friday night at happy hour, made us feel right at home and were great at suggesting a local Raw Bar (Boss Oysters) a couple blocks away! If you want to step back in time for a day or two this is the place to go!

Room Tip: Lots of stairs but worth the climb!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Gibson Inn is a fine example of Florida "Cracker" Architecture. This was the style of wood frame structure used widely in the 19th and early 20th century in Florida. These homes and businesses are characterized by metal roofs, raised floors, high ceilings, center hallways, and large wrap around porches. A widows walk and cupola crown the tin roof, all a reflection of the area's steamboat past. Built in 1907 of native heart pine and black cypress, the inn soon became known as a first class luxury hotel and was the only one between Pensacola and Jacksonville heated entirely by steam. Now listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. Many of the 30 guest rooms are uniquely appointed with authentic antique furnishings, cable TV, telephone, and wireless internet. Each guest room has its own full private bath. ... more   less
