“Loved the Gibson Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2005

In September, 8 ladies and two couples from Pensacola, went to the Gibson Inn, in Appalacicola, Florida for the weekend.

If you want to get away from the hussle and bustle of cars, noise, and a busy town -- this is the place to go. This southern town is very quaint and I don't believe has changed since the 40s or 50s. One can walk to town from the Inn. All of the shops are delightful and you may find most anything in them.

The Gibson Inn is kept very clean, which is what I look for first and foremost. The food served was awesome. I highly recommend the seafood choice. It was chocked full of real crabmeat.

The mystery weekend is very delightful. The whole town participates in giving the clues. This is something out of the ordinary. I would recommend the Mystery Weekend to anyone who wishes to do something really different for an entire weekend. I think it is something you will enjoy and never forget.

Watch out for this Inn. While the building is quaint the staff really did us dirty. When we made our reservation for a weekend of scalloping & a fish fry outside the porch we were assured everything was set. We came in late Friday & had a rough nite fighting off the ants. They crawled out of every nook & cranny, unbelievably filled the sink. Thousands of ants. Early the next morning we took off & spent the whole day in the water. Imagine our surprise when we came in at 6PM to have our fish fry only to discover Ginger had obviously double booked our rooms. They actually had removed our things from the room & our bags were sitting in the front hall! Sunburned & salty we were out on our own. I've never been treated like that before & hope I never have that happen again. Beware! The Best Western down the street really came thru for us, staff was helpful & courteous, even gave us a discount.

This comment goes out to whoever wrote this comment. The Gibson Inn has never over booked the Inn and has never told someone we don't have a room for them if they had a reservation. We don't have a Ginger that works here. We have never had a fish fry on the porch. We never move or touch any guests baggage and never have ever placed guests baggage in a front hall. (we dont have a front hall). So if you would like to respond to me personnally concerning this nasty comment, I would appreciate it!

Thank You

The Gibson Inn is indeed a lovely old hotel with a friendly staff and wonderful ambiance. However, for those who are looking for a good night's sleep this warning should be heeded. The Gibson Inn is NOT quiet. We have stayed there twice, once in a suite on the second floor that was right above the bar. The Friday night band on the outside porch was not too bad, but the ragtime piano playing in the bar on Saturday night did not sit well. The noise came right up through the floor boards until around 11 p.m. And we could hear the people in the room above us moving around for hours after that. The next time we stayed at the Gibson we opted for a queen room in another part of the hotel, but still on the second floor. Once again there was quite a bit of walking around noise from above, AND we could clearly hear the conversations of our next door neighbors through the paper thin walls. I guess these things are to be expected in a really old (1907) building, but it didn't make for a restful or relaxing stay.

The Gibson Inn is the most romantic inn I have ever been to. It makes you feel like you have stepped back in time when romance was important. The staff is so friendly. Not like most Inns where you are checked in and that is the end of it, the staff is there for you 24/7. The bartenders don't just serve you a cocktail the actually talk to you like you are long lost friends. The food in the dinningroom is mouth watering no matter if its breakfast, or dinner. They call it Nola's Grill but it is far more than a grill it has the most delectable food. Everyone there made me feel like I was the most important person that had ever walked thru their doors. I will return, and tell all my family and friends of this beautiful place on the forgot coast.

My husband and I are leaving today for our latest weekend at our favorite inn. Regretfully, our Airdale Terrier, Sadie will not be coming with us this time as, at her age she has developed arthritis so is not able to manage the stairs. We have photos of Sadie sleeping under a rocker on the 2nd story porch when she was a 10# pup, she has visited with us many times since as an 80 pound adult. She enjoyed the anticipation of the sighting of a resident feline at every turn. One thing we love about the inn is the people/pet-friendly atmosphere. We discovered the inn many years ago and usually try to get there for our Feb. 9th wedding anniversary. We will leave today for this years, our 37th together, restful weekend.
One of the most charming things at the Gibson is the Mystery Weekend. In all our visits we have never participated in a Mystery Weekend, however we had made reservations last year to go with some dear friends. we had to cancel at the last minute, but they went. They won, and we joined them in August for thier first anniversary celebration at thier (new) favorite inn. They were there as guests of the Gibson, as that was the prize they had won on for winning the Mystery game.
The location affords a welcome change from our fast-paced routine. What a wonderful place to rejeuvinate yourself in order to continue on a while longer enduring the stresses of life.
Thank you Gibson in, see you tonight.

This is far by the most fablulous Inn. Gibson Inn. We were there for Murder Mystery and I never had so much fun in my life. The staff was great. The story line was great. Pamela and Tony made us feel like family.
I advise everyone to check out Gibson Inn specially on Murder Mystery Weekend.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Gibson Inn is a fine example of Florida "Cracker" Architecture. This was the style of wood frame structure used widely in the 19th and early 20th century in Florida. These homes and businesses are characterized by metal roofs, raised floors, high ceilings, center hallways, and large wrap around porches. A widows walk and cupola crown the tin roof, all a reflection of the area's steamboat past. Built in 1907 of native heart pine and black cypress, the inn soon became known as a first class luxury hotel and was the only one between Pensacola and Jacksonville heated entirely by steam. Now listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. Many of the 30 guest rooms are uniquely appointed with authentic antique furnishings, cable TV, telephone, and wireless internet. Each guest room has its own full private bath. ... more   less
