“Run, fly, drive or train - but don't miss this gem of a hotel/resort!”
Reviewed 31 December 2012

We've had dinner previously at Azurea, the hotel's restaurant (and loved it!) but this was the first time we stayed there. I wanted someplace nearby to celebrate my birthday (we live about an hour away in St. Augustine), and One Ocean was my choice. We had a lovely room on the 8th floor with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The hotel charges a $25 resort fee that includes unlimited snacks (such as multigrain chips, Goldfish, candy, granola, etc.), and soda, still and sparkling water for your room refrigerator . There is a "One Touch" button on the phone that connects you to your personal room concierge 24/7. Our bellman pointed out that there was no coffee maker in the room because the hotel feels that guests should not have to do anything during their stay except have fun. So a quick press of the "One Touch" button in the morning and our coffee was delivered to our room (no additional charge - part of the resort fee). You'll see in the photo of the bathroom that it was compact but actually worked better for us than some larger ones. The vanity had two deep drawers for storage, and I was able to fit all my face & body treatments in one! I had an 80 minute classic massage in the spa the afternoon we arrived and it was heavenly! Cassandra was my massage therapist and she was great. In the course of the massage, she put heated packs on my back, the back of my neck and feet. Heaven! Plus my robe was warmed on a towel heater so it was nice and toasty when the massage was over. The spa has a wonderful relaxation room with floor to ceiling windows that look out on the ocean. There are comfy upholstered chaise lounges with blankets at the foot to enjoy and chill out. They offer a variety of teas, water, cookies, fruit and granola to munch while you relax. The whirlpool spa in the ladies' locker room was nice and warm without being overly hot. However, they also offer towels kept in a bowl of ice should you overheat. There is a steam shower and a regular shower, plus disposable brushes, combs, razors, shower gel, face cleanser, body lotion, fluffy towels, etc. After a relaxing afternoon, we then had another fabulous dinner at Azurea in the hotel. My husband and I travel extensively, so we know a great place when we find one. Please ignore any negative reviews - I don't know where those folks stayed, but it wasn't here! Don't miss this gem in Atlantic Beach. Additionally, there are cute shops, bars and restaurants around the hotel to enjoy during your stay. And don't miss a walk on the beach at your doorstep!

Room Tip: We had a Deluxe King on the 8th (which is the top)floor and that's the way to go for a couple.

This is probably the worst place I have ever been in Jacksonville beach. Very over rated pricing for what you get. Food is terrible salmon smelled like bait. And the beef looked like rare chuck steak. The wait staff is about as good. The alcohol is all different prices. We got a beer at the inside lounge it was $4.50 but right down the hall or outside they where $6.00 for a bud light. And liquer starts about $10.00-$12.00 apeice I think the sea turtle was A better hotel with much more bang for the money,Oh yea and they charge $10.00 per night just to park in there parking lot plus the valet tip of course. They call it a resort (not even close) but you will get hit with resort taxes as well... Your call

Room Tip: Book else where

Dear Jim C, thank you for your feedback - we constantly strive to provide the ideal experience for all of our guests. We are sorry to hear that your stay was not what you expected. The valet and resort fee is showcased within the pre-arrival communications and as you know, the tax for staying in Duval county is established by local government. Regarding your dining experience at Azurea, this is absolutely not the caliber of culinary delivery that our guests have come to expect from our resort. We hope that you are able to find the best accommodations for your needs next time in Jacksonville.

The hotel is beautiful, right on the beach, I am an independent meeting planner and did a conference at One Ocean. The staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. Anything you wanted or needed they were there to serve you.
The food was also excellent and excited beautifully.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony

One ocean is the pearl among shells in the Jacksonville Beaches area. Hugh's Lobby Bar, their main bar and Azurea restaurant are the only real high end places at the beach. If you're over 30, the boutique shops and restaurants will whet your palette with atmosphere and style. The wilder and seedier Jax Beach bars are just a quick cab ride away but the more tranquil and stylish Atlantic and Neptune Beach area us the perfect get away for couples or families.

This hotel sits right on Atlantic beach so the feel and view are great. I arrived at check-in to see an artsy, breezy looking lobby that blends well for the ocean. Check-in was average, but the porter was very polite and helpful. The room i was first given had a bathub which i dislike so he had the room changed with a shower stall. The room has the basics I require - large comfy bed, flat screen tv, and now , the shower stall. The toilet is very tiny, like in Japan. One has to be skinny and agile to navigate the small space. They didn't seal the shower glass door well so water leaks out. As the toilet is tiny, the whole floor is wet within seconds. Then a "personal concierge" came and I thought that was a nice touch, except he gave me the wrong laundry information. They also tell you the minibar , pressing and morning coffee is free, but other reviewers have commented there actually is a hidden $25 per day. I am on a business trip so I didn't pay attention to this, if I was on vacation, I may not be a happy camper. The pen and paper normally by the bedside is hidden in a drawer under the tv so you'll have to look for it. There is a small gym and pool, but functional. The heated pool works since it is getting chilly this time of year. Breakfast is a la carte and the food options and quality are good. After my first night, it was 4pm the next day and my room was still not cleaned. Their explanation was that I had to press the "make up room" button. I've stayed in 300 hotels all over the world and had never heard this lame line. Overall, service is really spotty depending on who you run into at the hotel. The porter and doormen are great, the housekeeping and front desk (who kept me waiting for 15 mins while she was attending to another guest and didn't bother to acknowledge my existence) were not , mostly. So the bad negates the good here, and thus, an average rating

Dear bcheong, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the decor, amenities and dining options of One Ocean Resort & Spa. We are surprised to hear that our front desk service was less than satisfactory, that is not the standard of our resort and we assure you that the matter will be looked into. To explain our housekeeping policy, One Ocean strives to provide our guests with a relaxing, unobtrusive experience and this option ensures that the room is cleaned at a time that is convenient for our guests. Since this was not made clear upon your arrival by your Docent, we will be sure the team is reminded of sharing this key detail. We hope you will consider joining us again for another opportunity to enhance your business travel stay.

This was probably our 4th or 5th return visit. It's a shame they don't run a loyalty program. Check in is always very fast, effectively done as you drop your car off. Decor is great and holding up well, bathrooms are small but great shower and good toiletries. Friendly staff and beautiful communal areas. It's not cheap but does feel like luxury and it's great to raid the fridge for drinks and snacks without feeling guilty about the cost (OK - you're paying $25 for the privilege upfront with the Resort Fee). Internet always works great. Beds are so comfortable and we never hear any noise from other rooms.

I thought the reviews were too good to be true, but this place is awesome. The hotel is beautiful, the decor is nice, not cheesy beachy, and it smells fresh and clean like the spa. I cannot rave enough about the service. That one call thing really works. We arrived late at night craving milkshakes and they said "sure, no problem" and sent them right up! There are some charges, but for a luxury hotel, they are not high and they are well worth it. The location is perfect, not crowded with souvenir shops and a million people. We will definitely be back.
