Hubby and I stopped in Avon Park to spend the night. We originally checked into another hotel. Drove down main street and for The Hotel Jacaranda. It was beautiful! The other hotel wouldn't let us out of the night rental(bad deal) We went ahead and got a room at this beautiful old hotel. We took lots of pictures. We would definitely stay here again given the chance!

This hotel was built in 1926 and is on the National Historic Register and you really get an idea of the elegance of these early days of traveling. The large lobby welcomes you and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a quirky original elevator that requires staff assistance to use, which we did when we checked in; when needed, you just ring a bell and someone brings the elevator to meet you. We were on the second floor and just used the stairs until we checked out. We chose a two room suite, with a comfortable couch, chair, and desk in sitting room, a king sized bed and dresser in a large bedroom, and a surprisingly large bathroom with some original fixtures. The best part was that our room was on the front of the hotel and overlooked a veranda which ran the length of the hotel. There was outdoor furniture on the veranda and we sat out there several times and enjoyed looking at the main street of Avon Park. There was an art festival going on when we were there, so we had lots to look at. We tried the dinner buffet on a Friday night and found it to be standard buffet food and nothing special. The continental breakfast had the usual cereals, pastries, oatmeal, bagels, yoghurt, milk, juice, coffee, and tea. This was a great hotel at very reasonable prices. Parking is in the rear of the hotel, very convenient.

Room Tip: Ask the staff for suggestions. We wanted a larger room and were given one that faced the veranda. We appreciated having a couch and chair to sit on to read and watch TV. Other rooms probably face the back parking lot and may not have the best view. But if you are only sleeping there, this may not matter much.

If you are OK with historic all the way, including not having a state-of the art bathroom and room facilities and are happy when things are clean and the staff is friendly, you'll enjoy this beautiful place. Especially the lobby and the restaurant areas are old Florida all the way. Rates are reasonable, even for Sebring weekend. My one complaint are the very tired and squeeky beds - a few new mattresses would make a world of difference! I'm all about enjoying the historic flair, but my back isn't when it comes to the mattress.

The Jac as they call it, is a Historic eccentric hotel. If you like experiencing different, and not run of the mill hotels this is for you. I love an occasional old world environment, and this is it. Huge lobby with high ceilings, polished wood. Desks to read at, with shelves of books to take or leave. An old time elevator. I had one of the smaller rooms which as my door stated was renovated courtesy of a local company. It was very clean, neat, and had everything I needed. A comfortable bed, a small table, TV that worked, a great shower which was a surprise. Excellent and friendly staff. Was not expensive. A very simple continental breakfast is available. If you want protein, or a real breakfast, best to go out. The hotel has that great dinner buffet restaurant run by the local college students. I would stay again.

Room Tip: Get a suite if it fits your budget. I toured some of the other rooms....... and these were very nice..

Once you realize this palce was buiilt in 1926 you begin to accept that you are staying in 1926 facilities. The staff is super friendly. Great service from the front desk.
The rooms are very small, there is no bath tub. There is a shower that has a head that is tempermental at best. The TV is a CRT at least 15 years old that has been converted from analog to digital. There is no desk . There is a small bedstand w/ a small lamp on one side of the bed.
The carpet is vintage and worn.
Overall the facility is very quaint, with a very interesting collection of books and a large setting area downstairs.
We stayed there during the Sebring 12 hour race nearby. The rates were nearly triple the Hotels usual rates !!!! Very high for what one gets. I undestand rate increases during special events are not
unusual but this was to high for what one gets in return. Sorry I would look elsewhere if I was in need .

Thank you for your review. As with every Hotel in the area during race week our rates do go up. As for a larger room we do offer Master suites that give our guest more space to stay in with a tub ,Desk and Micro/Fridge living room. We hope to have you stay with us again.
