“Great retreat!”
Reviewed 18 December 2012

My and I decided at the last minute to take a short little break. We did not know where we were going. We just got in the car and traveled. We went to a state park and picked up a brochure and saw an ad for this place. We decided to check it out. It was 10 at night and raining when we found this place. Wow! What a nice place. The staff was wonderful. They helped us to our room and unload and even got fire ready for us. They called resturant and asked if we could come for coffee and dessert even tho they were closed. They said sure. We had wonderful bourbon pecan pie and berry creme brulee. It was great. Our cottage was so cozy. It rained the next day and we had to check out but were able to have a wonderful breakfast and then see the ruins and the museum .So interesting! We will for sure come back when we have more time and do some horseback riding then.

My wife and I stayed at Barnsley over Thanksgiving. The "lighting of the ruins" was magnificent. We have stayed at Barnsley several times before and absolutely love it. My only negative comment worth mentioning is that we expected the "lighting of the ruins" to be more exclusive for guests. We spent a fair amount of money at Barnsley and expected a certain level of exclusivity and privacy. However, the resort was open to the entire public to enjoy during the "lighting of the ruins". The resort was overrun with non-paying visitors, which resulted in my family not getting to enjoy many of the festivities due to the extremely long lines and crowds.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for the cottage suite, it's worth it. Thanksgiving is not the best time to...

Our firm spend two nights on a firm-wide retreat at Barnsley. We had a great time, everyone was impressed with the rooms, event meeting places, dining areas, etc. We had dinner at the Ruins one night which was cold (late November), but still an impressive and beautiful setting. The staff put on a scavenger hunt the first afternoon that was a good tour of the property, its history, and a good teambuilding activity. Good facilities for meetings during the day. Adairsville is 1 - 1.5 hours north of Atlanta, but there is not much immediately surrounding the property.

There is nothing negative I could say about this resort. The cottages were beautiful, the service was excellent, the food delicious, the trails were pretty, trap shooting was awesome, and the staff were very attentive. I would definitely return.

Never had heard of the place, but a friend had his wedding here so we flew down for it. Although we didn't stay at Barnsley Gardens, we spent a day on the premises - the cottages were beautiful and well appointed. The groom took us all skeet shooting - it was fun, although bruising! The wedding itself took place at "the Ruins" which was stunning - the staff had put up candles throughout and had a nice fire going inside. They served drinks and appetizers after the ceremony - very unique and beats the usual wedding mill kind of place. Afterwards there was a more formal dinner under a tent - the food was quite good, no rubber chickens here. The next morning we came back for brunch in the main building - a fine spread with everything you could want for breakfast. The staff was nice. Seems like a great place for a vacation.

We went to spend the day at the spa and decided to stay overnight. The property is so beautiful you can feel yourself relaxing as you drive in. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. We had three treatments at the spa and they ordered us lunch from the Woodland Grill to have at the spa to save us having to leave. We had a facial, massage and pedicure and all treatments were excellent. We made use of the sauna, steam room and whirlpool. Left the spa feeling very relaxed. We dined in the Woodland Grill and the food was great.

We loved it so much we plan to go back with our families.

My wife and I stayed at Barnsley Gardens for two nights and had a fantastic stay.

Service: Excellent from check-in to check-out and everything in between. Everyone was helpful and friendly.
The Resort: A beautiful layout. All of the cottages and facilities are within a five minute walk, although a lot of guests were using golf carts to get around. The buildings are all unique but share a common architectural theme. The grounds are immaculate and the landscaping is extraordinary. I canot imagine how much work goes into maintaining 100s of species of trees, bushes, plants, flowers, but they do it well.
Cottage: We stayed in a 1-BR suite. It was roomy, well laid out, perfectly clean and very comfortable. The decor is completely consistent with the late 19th century theme of the resort but the rooms had all the modern conveniences. Loved the woodburning fireplace and both decks (a front porch w two rockers and a small deck off the bedroom).
Restaurants: There are two - one for all meals and one for dinner only. We had one dinner at each. Especially enjoyed the Rice House (dinner only) - creative and tasty choices.
Activities: We did not play golf but the course looks great - several scenic holes, a lot of opportunities for lost balls! We enjoyed the hiking trails, the historical area, the gardens. There is also a riding stable, swimming pool and tennis that we did not use but all looked to be very nice.
Overall: This is now one of my favorite places and we will certainly be back.
