“Caye Caulker”
Reviewed 15 October 2010

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon on Caye Caulker. The island itself is super laid back. The food is the freshest catch of the day - you really can't go wrong at any restaurant. The snorkeling was amazing - we used Raggamuffin Tours, and would recommend them. The hotels range from really nice to super cheap. We made the mistake of reserving a hotel before we arrived. When we checked in we were disappointed and would have left if they had not already charged my credit card. I would recommend waiting till you get there so you can see the rooms - almost everyone had vacany signs. Overall, we loved this part of our trip. It's a very "mostly locals" island, which is what we were looking for.

“Amberysis Caye,”
Reviewed 7 April 2010

Eli, at Island Conceriege was a wonderful contact for our family of four. She put us in touch with a Geri at GL Tours for incredible accommodations. Eli, arranged for our diving certification-an amazing experience with our 14 and 18 year old. Eli recommended great accommodation on Amberysis Caye, helped plan out our travel adventure inland to Belize, had people meet us at the airport and drive us to our destintation. When we were at the Island she made herself available for dinner recommendaiton, fishing recommendations, special tours, camataran trip. Eli at Island Concerienge knows the best people to make your vacation an enjoyable, effortless experience. I highly recommend her company. Jackie Taylor Calgary Alberta

“Great place for snorkeling in Belize”
Reviewed 6 November 2009

Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker were the two cayes that we had visited. Ambergris Caye was a much nicer and cleaner island, but Caye Caulker was cheaper for buying souvenir. Ambergris Caye has a lot of restaurants and shops in San Pedro. But the best part was to take the day trip out to Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley. It was the best place to snorkel. We took our two sons (age 12 & 8, a first time snorkeler) there and in the begining it was a little scary to see all the nurse sharks swimming around. But they didn't bother you at all. As for the ray, we were touching them and there were lots of fish as well. The water was only 8 to 10 feet deep. We even saw a moray eel there in Hol Chan. Another good place for snorkel is off the shore of Caye Caulker call The Aquarium. The name said it all, you see a lot of different sea lifes there, such as sea turtle, ray, puffer fishes......I highly recommanded this place. While we were there, Caye Caulker had a lobster festival. There were booths set out on the beach, they sell all kind of local foods. But beware of the flies, they are everywhere. We try to eat the lobster and we had to half cover it with foil. It was some experience!

“Things you need to know before you go 2 Belize”
Reviewed 30 June 2008

Bring Bug Off. You will be bitten by mosquitos. We stayed at Sun Breeze suites and it was better than a hotel but had a few problems. The bed was extremely hard and we got attacked by ants in our room every night. There was no hairdryer or clock in bedroom and no salt and pepper in kitchen. Not a typical resort like we're use to. Weather wise it rained every day and was gloomy every day but one day the whole week. June and July are worst for rain i found out. We toured the whole island and by far the best resort is REEF VILLAGE for MANY reasons. Once you cross the bridge to go on the north side you get charged 5 dollars each time, so choose wisely where you stay. As Captain Morgans is a nice place you are stuck on the north side of the island. Sure you can take a boat ride to town, but there is Not alot of restaurants but the ones only at the resort. The reef Village is Right after the bridge, but the resort gives you a bridge pass so you don't get charged each time. The resort is also not to far from town and airport. They are building there own movie theatre and continue to build to finish the resort. My husband and i love to snorkel and the only good place to do that is at Ramon"s under the pier. Everywhere else there is alot of seagrass. The island is NOT like Hawaii if you've been there. You can't just walk in without seagrass around you and be careful as there was a huge sting ray right infront of our resort right by the shore. I have pictures of it and other picts too. Cave Tubing is a MUST DO if going to belize. It was unbelizeable as they say. It was the best thing we did. Our tour guy was great. His name is Jose Calvio. he will make your vacation an unforgetable one. Email me to get more info on how you can get Jose as your tour guy. We also did the Mayan ruins on our tour with Jose and that was great too. Be careful where you choose to stay in San Pedro as alot of the pictures on the internet look alot better in picture than in real life as you will see when you get there. That is why i highly recommend the Reef Village. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Just put in subject belize.

“A Great Winter Escape.”
Reviewed 19 July 2007

Last winter 3 lady friends and I went in search of some place to swim daily in warm waters and soak up some hot sunshine... .
.... away from the cold winter days and nights of Canada..
Well! We enjoyed 2 months in Belize. Mostly on Caye Caulker ~ One of the most friendliest places I have ever experienced without a doubt! Happy kind fun people!
Even the rain down pours (infrequently) where warm!! :)
Inexpensive food.... The local Bakery sells fresh hot bread and cakes daily ~ very cheap... so very tasty!!
Sea food can be bought fresh from the fishermen ~ When you see flocks of birds flying over in the direction of a shore line....
Follow them over.. .. .. The fishing boats have arrived with your catch of the day....
We rented a 3 level Villa for $500 US a week [ Split 4 ways between us]. We had a roof top palaps with B.B.Q and we entertained ROYALY!! 360 deg views... A great location next to the the 'Purple Plum' Spa/Gallery/Cafe ~ They had local live Jazz and Reggae 3 times aweek and Sunday "Drum Fests" awsome!!
Serve very wholesome food and "BEST COFFEE" ON THE ISLAND!
WE WHERE A 5 MIN WALK DOWN FROM THE VERY SMALL AIRPORT and STRIP.....
***** One thing to remmember is 'Cover Up' at night time and wear insect repel...*****
We where just a 10 min walk to great swimming and fishing....
....A good stones throw from a tiny island belonged to Sammy Davis JR years ago... The pier is a bit ramshackled, but you can listen to the "Fishing stories" told by the locals who go down to catch their lunch & dinner there...... such good memories.. :-)
I met pretty much the 'whole world' passing through there at that favorite swimming hole ~ over the two months of total relaxation and escape from this somewhat troubled world we live in... Interesting times these.....
But there are some unique places and it's people's in this world of ours that still know the meaning of hospitality and kindness... Just awaiting for you to enjoy... filled with people who know how to enjoy each and every day.... rain or shine.
I just may go back this winter....
But, then it's been a while now since I visited another favorite place of mine in the wintertime... That's the very... very ... beautiful Island of Madeira. Portugal...
Ah!! Decisions!! Decisions!!! :) :)
