We stayed at Cap'n Morgan's Nov 4-11, 2006. It was a nice, clean, well-run condo complex. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were not approached by timeshare salesmen, perhaps because we were already staying in the "Vacation Club" section of owners due to our exchange of our own timeshare through Interval International.
Check-in was easy, they arranged pickup at the San Pedro airstrip and transfer by taxi and boat. They quickly fixed a leaking shower and replaced a few lightbulbs.
The restaurant was great. Good food, casual ambience, attentive service and reasonable prices. One day, they cooked up the red snapper we had just caught on the reef for our lunch; it was great!
The activities desk was helpful and arranged our fishing trip the same day, and a very nice excursion to the Altun Ha Mayan Temple and Marumba spa day trip. It was worth the extra few dollars they charge to get on-site boat pickup and an air-conditioned van to drive in on the mainland.
The mosquitos weren't as bad as we feared, although we did get a few bites during the sunset welcome party on Sunday. We brought "buzz-off" insect repellant clothing and it seemed to work.
The biggest drawback was the dependence on the water taxi system to get back and forth to San Pedro; it's a $14US roundtrip per person which adds up pretty fast. We enjoyed going to town to sample the fare at the great restaurants there and the need to pay for and wait for a taxi was an impediment.
We went to Belize mainly for the scuba diving and were fairly satisfied. We used Amigos del Mar exclusively due to consistent high reviews here and in Scuba Diving Magazine. They were prompt, professional and friendly without being overly lax or too conservative. The regular 2-tank local dive is nice because you can return between dives to use the bathroom, etc. The 2-tank dive to Hol Chan is a little further out and they don't return between dives; they snorkel instead, which was OK for me, but my wife really missed the bathroom break. We also took a 3-tank all-day trip to Turneffe Atoll, which was a good trip, but costs $165US per person plus rentals. Diving was good but not spectacular because of a solid week of torrential rain the week before we arrived, which clouded the water. Visibility was still about 45 feet, but not the 100 we had hoped for and seen in Cozumel.

We have stayed here several times and will continue to do so. I read these reviews and cannot work out where some of the comments come from.

Last time we were there we went to the Belize culture night. A sales event let's face it but if you go to these things with the right attitude they are fun. We went to buy a painting but did not have the cash so we arranged to meet the artist the next day. By the time we met him he had already sold it. To the hotel owner - hey, he didn't want to bite the hand etc. So we talked to the hotel owner who was fantastic and sold it to us at her cost. Cheaper than we would have got it.

That's an example of how friendly and helpful we find the people but you have to have the right attitude. Relax - have a Beliken and stop taking life seriously.

The 3 barmen were all great and very helpful. We had no issues at all and were approached once (repeat and underline - once) regarding a timeshare. A simple No thanks worked perfectly well. By the way, the resort owners or managers are normally around the bar most nights and they are approachable and helpful.

Regarding trips. We did think they were a little pricey and we booked from other agents in town. You do have to include the pickup I suppose (it's a bit further for the baots to come) but even so, I still thought we got a better deal in town. Actually, we did one trip with them. The all day snorkel trip and really enjoyed that.

The food. Very good. No complaints whatsoever but we did not eat there every night. 4 times in 10 days and it was great. Loved the breakfasts.

We stayed 5 nights at Capt. Morgan's and were disappointed. The property is nice and the accommodations were acceptable, but the staff's attitude was terrible. Everyone there from the front desk, to the guest services person, waiters were very unfriendly and not helpful. We had some problems with our air conditioning with puddles of water on the hardwood floors for two days and no one seemed too concerned. We were more worried about the floor getting wrecked than they were. We were there to scuba dive and quickly discovered we should book our own trips with a dive shop in town. Once we hooked up with Aqua Divers (who the hotel bagged on) we were set with our diving and had three great days diving with them. We also started to eat more of our meals in town and solved that problem also. I might stay there again, but it's enjoyable only if you are leaving the property often. While we were never approached by the time share people, it becomes very obvious that the staff spends their time, energy, and smiles with their potential time share buyers.

We were lucky enough to pick Captain Morgans for our honeymoon. We had one of the little casitas on the beach with a direct view of the sea
They had every thing that we needed to make our trip perfect. All activities were scheduled right on property, we loved cave tubing, a store, two pools, two bars, great resturant and laundermat
The staff was very accommadating and were always ready to assit us with our request
Though we loved visiting the town of San Pedro, it was great for us to be able to relax on the beautiful big beach at Captain Morgans
We will always have beautiful memories of our romantic honeymoon in Belize

I visited Captain Morgan in April of 2006 with my fiance, 19 year old and 10 year old sons. We had one of the most wonderful experiences ever. The resort is lovely, rooms are spacious, people very friendly. Everyone was very kind and helpful. We swam, took snorkel trips, water taxiid to town (no charge) , read, relaxed, enjoyed the pool, all in all had a great time. We'll be back!
