“Outstanding location”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

We had a short, first visit here at the end of a vacation in the rainforests of Cayo and Guatemala, our first trip to Belize and Ambergris Caye. The comments on other reviews are pretty accurate, so won't rehash all of them here. Rather, I'll point out what we think are some key takeaways.

The quality of the location itself is terrific. The beach is very white and the reef is very close. The overall effect of the place is superb. The views are as good as the photos suggest, the water is just as clear.

You are far from everything else. We didn't find this to be a problem but don't plan on staying here if you are interested in checking out the town, or other resorts, at least easily.

The 1BR cabanas are not equal. We stayed in cabin 1, which was formerly the office. The manager lives upstairs. We didn't have a problem with noise but the view from the unit is more obstructed by the dock complex and restaurant than other units. There is no loft in the unit and there is air conditioning in the entire thing with no opening windows in front, so no opportunity to get a breeze or fresh air. The interior stairway has been removed so the kitchen area is strangely large and odd shaped. Resort staff walks to the rear of the property using a path right next to this unit and there is no privacy from people looking in.

Breakfast was good. We thought the few other meals we had were just ok. Don't come here for the food.

While it was quiet for the most part there can be groups into drinking a lot in the bar and they make noise. You will hear it because there isn't a sound from anywhere else!

The quality of the lodging is fine but not elegant. This is not a flower petals on the bed or turned down at night sort of place.

There is sea grass not far from the beach, and sort of a strange smell just offshore. No impediment to snorkeling and kayaking, but we wouldn't have enjoyed swimming right off the beach and didn't see anyone do this as opposed to swimming out to the reef. As noted elsewhere, the reef in this area is not pristine. We did not take a boat trip to snorkel elsewhere due to lack of time, that could be good. Such trips are expensive however, and there is a definite undercurrent of trying to sell them to you. And yes, the beach areas outside the resort are filled with plastic trash, most unappealing.

We've been to beaches all over the world. Can't compare it to other spots in Belize.

My husband and I have been at this resort three times. We love it each time. Its away from town about 12 miles up north of SanPedro, last resort. The beaches are wonderful and the Snorkling is heaven. Its a national park in the water. The cabanas are fantastic. I have stayed in all of them and not a one is better than the other. We stayed in the budget room and it has A/C through out the room. Plus its the only one with a king size bed. I would stay their again. Its doesnt have oceanfront like the other cabanas, but you aren't in your room that much. I would suggest going to the local store and buying a few issentials like beers, sodas, and snacks before heading out to tranquility bay. They are more expensive out their. Catherine the Manager is right on the ball. She has greatly improved the place. I will be back to this resort

Room Tip: Internet service is alittle slow. The rooms 7-11 do not have internet availablilty. Bone fishing i...

We stayed here for 4 nights, next time we will be staying longer.
Absolutely loved TBR. The name says it all Tranquility Bay.
The loudest noise you will hear at TBR are the birds singing in
the morning. If you are looking for peace & quiet, rest & relaxaton look no further you have found it. The beach and the reef right out
your front door is what makes TBR so special, along with the
fantastic staff they have assembled. Kahterine is always on top of
things, Ceaser and the rest of the staff are great.

We are not party hearty bar hopping golf cart driving folks, San Pedro did not do a lot for us....however, Tranquility Bay resort was just the ticket. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, friendly...this resort is for those who want to unplug and lay back. My husband had the best fishing ever, complete with catching off the dock (using a borrowed rod from Pany, the amazing fishing guide who gave him free lessons on the dock), as well as a 1/2 day trip out with Pany after which we dined on his grouper catch nicely prepared by the kitchen. I enjoyed painting and reading on the divine little perfect beach. Our cabana was sweet and homey and comfortable. We thought the bar b que meal one of our best in Belize. Coconut mojitos rock! I was glad we brought some food and drinks ourselves to supplement as they do have a limited and rather expensive menu and I have food allergies which they did their best to accommodate. Kayaking off the beach was great. Snorkeling was ok, better to arrange to take a trip out to see more.
Only downsides are the sad state of the beaches outside of the resort, just plastic trash lining the beaches for miles, not under their control but just bummed me out when I walked outside of the resort. And the sand fleas just killed me in spite of covering up and using deet etc. It took my ankles 10 days to recover after getting home! I recommend having them arrange a nature walk with Turtle man who lives right past the resort, inexpensive and quite informative. We would love to return and bring family and friends and stay longer than our 3 nights next time!

We loved it here. When I go again I will book slightly later.. in Mid January there was still some rain. Wonderful snorkeling.. Pany is a great guide.. bone fishing.. kayaking.. we stayed in the budget travelers room. Coconut Mojito is to die for… trust me. It was wonderful! Service was good… and there were nice touches for their guests.. like a book with your name on it when you arrived with tours and information inside… free use of kayaks.. lots of ocean life. GO!

My friends and I didn't stay here but our resort arranged a boat to take us to spend the day on Tranquility Bay Resort's beach. It's a beach paradise! The cabanas are adorable, lined up and brightly colored just steps from the beach. Hammocks and loungers available for anyone who shows up and coconuts everywhere, we even got to drink a few thanks to a nice gentleman. The only place on the island where you can snorkel from the beach and at $10 for the entire day for gear, it's a bargain. I'd like to go back and stay here!!!
