“Get the dream house.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2011

Don't stay in the hotel rooms - stay in the Dream House or the other ocean view cabana. We stayed in the dream house - awesome ocean view. Romantic for two, or roomy for a family if you want. Twin beds in a loft, a queen downstairs. Bathroom w/ towels - they'll loan you beach towels if you ask too. Small fridge - buy some ice at the grocery that's 1/4 mile away - grocery offers free delivery - buy beer and water too and ride on their golf cart home.

stay in the cabanas for a cute ocean view from your room. Very friendly staff and guests. Great sunrises. More conventional hotel rooms behind the cabanas grande but not as much charm to them. Hire a golf buggy to see more of the island great fun. Overall very chilled place to stay

We stayed at Cabana Chica. It is closest to the road and ocean. It has a cozy porch where you can sit and watch the ocean. For the view and accomodations provided, the price is amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpful when booking tours. They booked a snorkeling tour for us with great tour guides. Location is great because its in the quieter area of San Pedro, but you can also walk/bike to the centre area with restaurants. Staff recommended the bakery next to them...it was amazing!

I stayed in Hotel del rio for a couple of nights, it´s very clean and well ubicated near to the downtown in fornt of the sea, but the best thing is the good threat we received from the staff. We planned to stay 6 nights there so we paid in advance for the 6, but a storm called Alex arrived and we have to return to mexico sooner than expected, we asked if we could get a refund, and they gave us the money for the 4 nights we didnt stay without any question or problem, Javier was very polite.

The other good thing about this hotel is the price, very reasonable and excellente quality-price relation (air conditioned room with frigobar for 55 usd per nught).

Stayed there for 8 days with my fiancé and had a wonderful time. We stayed in the Cabana Chica, closest to the road and ocean. The cabana is a tall palapa consisting of a queen sized bed and bathroom. There was no AC but we didn't new it, since we would just sleep with the mesh windows open and the ocean breeze would cool us down. They came in and cleaned up our room every day which was really nice, and they kept the ground very clean an manicured.

Need a drink and want to meet some awesome people? Head to Wayo's Beernet, it's a five minute walk towards town and they have the cheapest drinks on the island, and we made some incredibly friends there. We went every night and they treated is like family there. Ruby works the kitchen and makes an incredible burger and quesadilla. And their ceviche is awesome!! Tell Wayo and Clinton that Chris & Wendy sent you and I promise they'll take great care of you!

Stayed for 8 days. 7 in upstairs air conditioned room ( Which wasn't needed while we were there) and 1 night in a thatch roofed cabana. Simple ,comfortable rooms with a small refrig. and coffeemaker. Nice breezes kept the rooms cool. Nice, friendly and helpful staff kept the rooms and grounds neat and clean. Enjoyed the table and chairs under the palapa for chatting and checking email with their wi-fi. Generally quiet area. Bakery a couple hundred feet behind the hotel as well as a family type outdoor lunch counter that was open most of the time for decent ,cheap local fare. The dock was nice for sitting in the sun, some shallow swimming and a little snorkeling. Saw occasional fishermen off the dock or walking the shallow seagrass, but don't know how much success they were having. I'd stay here again, without question. Great place to learn how to sit back and relax.

We inquired with Suyapa Leslie regarding staying in a cabana. She quoted the rates for the Cabana Chica and Cabana Casita. We sent her a deposit (50% of the total) for either one of those 2 cabanas. Over 24 hours later, she emailed us and said that those cabanas weren't available but that Cabana Grande was for an additional charge. We agreed to that as the Lonely Planet and tripadvisor recommendations for the hotel were very good and it sounded like a place we really enjoy. The next day we received another email from Suyapa stating that the Cabana Grande is only available for the first night of our stay. She offered us the opportunity to stay in motel style room called Casa Blanca. Not exactly the same ambiance as a grass thatched roof hut overlooking the ocean which is the reason why we wanted to stay at Hotel Del Rio. She offered us a 5% discount off the previously quoted rates for the inconvenience. We emailed her back and requested a 10% discount off the quoted rates as we would only get 1 night in the cabana and have to switch rooms in the middle of our stay. I felt that was a very fair offer in light of the gross mistakes made by her. I requested she email us back by 10am the following day. We had already purchased airline tickets due to her assurances that the Cabana Grande was available. These were non-refundable and she didn't let us know that the cabana wasn't available until 5 days prior to our departure date. We needed to know immediately as otherwise we had to find other accomadations (which is virtually impossible at the last minute). Suyapa did not bother to email us back and we were forced to rent a condo at over twice the price that Hotel Del Rio was originally.

As an airline employee, I have had the opportunity to travel all over the world with my wife. I can honestly say this has been the worst experience we have had in over 10 years of travel. If you can't afford to have your reservations changed or cancelled at the last minute, don't stay at Hotel Del Rio. It looks great and I'm sure is a beautiful property but they have really added a lot of stress to our vacation by being completely unreliable regarding reservations.
