If you don't want to be in the busy downtown area this is the perfect place. You will need to rent a golf cart to get to town.Driving the carts is alot of fun in itself! The interior and exterior is well kept and comfortable. You can walk north (5 min) to the Sandbar for drinks and food- fun place. Suya tours is across the street and can arrange diving, snorkeling etc
There is a small market with breakfasts etc just half a block down the street-
I would stay here again!

Spent 8 days at Sunset Beach and thought it was great. The condos and the grounds are very well cared for and the location is GREAT!! We were looking for quiet and relaxing and that is exactly what we got.

We stayed six nights at the Sunset Beach Resort condominiums on Ambergris Caye, located about 2-1/2 miles south of San Pedro. We really liked the peaceful location, even though it was a little far from town. They had free bicycles and ocean kayaks for us to use. We rode the bikes to San Pedro one day to explore, and it was a fun adventure. On our third day, we rented a golf cart, which was immensely fun to drive around the island over the speed bumps and on the sandy roads. I would recommend renting a cart in advance if you want one for your whole stay; they are often sold out during "peak" travel periods.

The condo grounds are well maintained by Mr. Chapin the caretaker. The pool is very clean and the beach area is raked every day. The long (300 ft) pier has a palapa on the end with benches and a hammock; it was a pleasure to sit there and feel the breeze or take a swim (or read or do yoga).

Our unit (two story with a ground floor entrance) was pretty clean; tile floors throughout. The kitchen was adequately stocked for our needs, but we didn't cook gourmet meals during our stay. The beds were comfortable, but the living room sofa was old and not comfortable at all. The unit had three flat screen TVs complete with cable, HBO and all the movie channels (if that's your thing), as well as free local phone and Wi-Fi (we didn't bring our laptop to use it). We had a lovely 2nd floor balcony overlooking the sea, where you could enjoy the hammock, feel the breeze and see the waves breaking on the reef offshore.

There are two corner-type markets within walking distance of the complex with virtually any food or beverage you might need. One even has a grill with daily specials and reasonable prices (BZ$3 for an egg, bacon and cheese burrito).

Suya Tours handles check in for the complex and they also offer daily tours for snorkeling, Lamanai, cave tubing, etc. We took their snorkeling tours to Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley as well as Mexico Rocks and Tres Cocos. We were satisfied with the tours, especially going to Hol Chan-- the morning tour leaves early and you might be one of the first snorkel boats to arrive.

We would definitely return to San Pedro; maybe even staying again at Sunset Beach, if only for the peacefulness of the setting and spaciousness of the condo unit.
