We picked this place soley based on reviews. And for the most part it was awesome.
Make sure you understand the transportation from Int'l airport to island resort. We didnt and took $40 taxi to municipal airport and waited 2 hours for plane and then paid $20 to get to resort with no greeting or welcome cocktail!
But. the resort is beautiful and like others said...some staff are amazing and some are average.
HOUSEKEEPING WAS spotty. Some days we returned at 4:00 to have our unit still untened to. WHICH is a drag when you've been in sun and wind and they tell you...'dont do dishes, the staff will wash' and you come back to dishes undone...JUST LIKE HOME!!! Why do I pay to come back to dirty dishes. They explained that there were lots of check-ins...but can't you plan ahead...I mean no one just drops in as a guest!!!
We had the 2 bdrm penthouse suite which was FABULOUS (sans the housekeeping)!!! I was isck 2 days and was grateful for the sattelite and big flat screen tv!
The hot water was spotty..hot then cold, but who cares when you're in paradise??? Well, I do!
Road to town...not as bad as described, totally do-able
And for me the major bummer was....THE LOAD kids at pools. I want quiet and romance and there were always kids splashing about. How about one pool reserved for families and one for adults trying to enjoy peace and quiet. Your kids are cute, sure, but I'm here for relaxing, not "mommy, mommy watch me jump and splash!". Most romantic award???? Get ride of the kids and YES!!!!!!
A great place for families!!!!!

Coco Beach has the best staff ever! They were so helpful in so many ways and always had a smile on their faces. While we were a little far from town, we enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle, because we came to relax, not to rush around! The only thing I would change would be to stay longer, because Coco Beach and Ambergris Caye are heavenly!
The pool was the best, and the room we stayed in (we had a private Casita) was amazing as well. I would go back to Coco Beach any day and would recommend it to anyone thinking about Ambergris Caye.

This is what I imagine beautiful hotels on Hawaii to look like (I am an experienced traveler but haven't yet made it to Hawaii!!). We had a two bedroom condo on the beach with a large balcony overlooking the ocean and a fully-loaded, updated kitchen. The bathrooms are also luxurious, the Master having two shower heads. In the center of several of these buildings is a beautiful three tiered pool with a swim-up bar and embedded hot tub, also overlooking the ocean. The pool is even surrounded by mini beaches with comfortably padded lounge chairs and umbrellas. Behind this pool is another pool with a structure in the middle that is actually a slide (but does not look like one). I went with friends but wished my boyfriend was there because it was very romantic. It was also family friendly. There is a restaurant next door and a company that can arrange your tours. You can borrow laptops that have Internet access. You can also rent bikes or golf carts to get into town (about 3.5 miles south). If bikes and golf carts don't appeal to you, there are water taxis. While there might be less expensive accommodations, Coco Beach Resort is known to be the best on the island and it certainly exceeded my expectations.

We spent six days in Coco Beach in early August. We had booked a two-bedroom pool view, and had been upgraded to an ocean view apartment - it was spectacular, with a fantastic view, excellent furnishings, a very well equipped kitchen, and as others have noted, VERY comfortable beds. It seems no expense was spared in building and equipping these units, they are luxurious!

We have a 4-year-old, so we wanted to ensure that we stayed in a place that would provide plenty to keep her entertained. We were thrilled with the fantastic swimming pools - definitely a wonderful place to spend lots of time for adults as well as a beginning swimmer! The beach was nice as well, and we took advantage of swimming off of the Belizean Shores' dock, as well as the complimentary kayaks, several times.

We had decided to economize and took advantage of eating in our apartment most of the time - we had the groceries provisioned by Lagniappe (http://www.lagniappe-belize.com/) and the service was excellent - everything was already there upon our arrival! The only local restaurant we sampled was Capricorn, which was efficient, friendly, and delicious.

I guess the only gripe with service would be that we sometimes received incorrect or incomplete information regarding services offered - we were directed to the possibility to rent the kayak that is available on the Coco Beach pier, but weren't told that there were free kayaks available at Belizean shores (which we discovered by chance). Also, we were told at the front desk that there were golf carts available, only to return 20 minutes later to be told (by other staff) that the carts actually weren't available (well, they said "they are available but they don't work."!!!). Seems to be some problems with messaging and communications with the front desk staff.

A larger issue that is not unique to Coco Beach is the large amounts of trash on the beaches (we only walked in the areas neighboring this facility, but I suspect it's an issue all over San Pedro), and we felt that if places like Coco Beach even spent a small fraction of the time they spent clearing sea grass from their beach on picking up litter and trash in some of the rest of the beachfront, the whole destination would benefit!

Overall we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend to families with children big and small, couples, and those seeking a ton of activities or just a great place to relax!

After seeing Ambergris Caye by boat and bike we agreed that Coco Beach is the nicest resort on the island. The pool is the best we’ve seen anywhere – it should win an award. The week we were there, in the off-season, Coco Beach was fully booked, but never seemed crowded. This was not the case everywhere, as we met two other families who said they were the only people staying at their resort. Coco Beach was clearly the place to be; people that were staying elsewhere seemed envious. The staff at Coco Beach was excellent. They were friendly and always willing to do what they could help us or to improve our stay.

We booked excursions to the Mayan Ruins and snorkeling in Hol Chan, both through Tuff-E-Nuff. We had a great time on both trips and it was easy to book at Coco Beach or their dock next door. We also got their 5-day water taxi pass for only $20 U.S. The taxi was reliable and, unlike the Coastal Express taxi, it runs non-stop from the resort to San Pedro. The Tuff-E-Nuff employees were outstanding. They are laid-back and fun people who make it a point to show you a good time, but remain professional. We liked getting to know them during our stay.

We really enjoyed eating Central American food at Waragumas and Pupuseria, across the street from each other in San Pedro. The food was delicious and, depending on what you order, it can be two to four times cheaper than meals at most restaurants on the island. Wild Mangos was a good restaurant for typical island prices. Don’t miss the food at the Belizean Culture Nights at Belizean Shores and Captain Morgan’s or Coco Beach’s Friday BBQ – all with live music. We recommend bringing snacks from home for the room, as snacks in town can be expensive. We did, however, buy cheap and delicious fruit at Secret’s Produce in town.

Other items that may be useful: Mosquitoes were not a problem due to the breeze off the beach at Coco; however, use spray if you go in the jungle on a tour. Bring a flashlight for the beach at night. Dress is casual - everywhere! We took the small plane from Belize City to San Pedro and were glad we did. A family we met took the 1.5 hour crowded boat ride to San Pedro and after that experience changed to the 15 minute plane ride for their return trip. I’ve attached our pictures of the hotel room we stayed in because I could not find interior pictures before going. No kitchen or fridge, but the room was beautiful and the price was right.

Coco Beach gave us a vacation we will not forget. We highly recommend Coco Beach!

My wife and I recently stayed at Coco Beach resort. I'll start with the good points.

We stayed in Casita #1 which was beautiful. The quality of the building and trim is superb. The inside is a mix of mahogany wood, granite surfaces and local tile work. The grounds surrounding the resort are immaculate. The staff there are super friendly and are willing to go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. From Larry the pool guy to Don the IT guy to the front desk staff, I truly mean every single staff member is polite and helpful.

We originally booked a hotel room but found the prices dropped a few weeks before we were set to leave so for $14 USD per night we upgraded to a Casita which has a full kitchen with GE Profile stainless steel appliances. The hotel rooms do not even have a mini refrigerator which I think should be corrected. Guests want to have cold beverages at their disposal at a minimum.

Upon arriving we were greeted at the dock by three staff members. Norma was our greeter and we were given ice cold towels to cool off which were much need and appreciated. After a brief stroll through the grounds we were taken directly to our casita. No check-in required. We were told at our convenience come to the front desk so they can take an imprint of our CC for any incidental charges we incurred during our stay.

The resort does not have a restaurant yet because it is still being built. This is why I upgraded to a Casita. We were able to buy some groceries for breakfast and lunch and much needed beverages. This resort has three sister resorts on the island, two of which are on the northern end and close by. Belizean Shores which was right next store has a restaurant call The Upper Deck to which you can order room service and charge to your room. The food there was good. Nothing spectacular but very convenient. There are several other restaurants within walking distance so it's really not a problem. Our recommendations for restaurants are as follows:

Captain Morgans (right next door)
Capricorn (10 minute walk south of Coco Beach)
Lazy Croc's (25 minute walk south of Coco Beach)
Mambo Restaurant at Matachica (Call for boat to pick u up fro free!)
"O" at Las Terrazas resort (10 minute walk north of Coco Beach)
Red Ginger at The Phoenix resort in San Pedro (water taxi needed)
Elvis Kitchen in San Pedro (water taxi needed)
Blue Water Grill in San Pedro (water taxi needed)

We did not have one bad meal anywhere including The Upper Deck. Get out and explore. You will need a water taxi to get to San Pedro. Skip renting the golf cart, the roads are awful, and I mean awful. Your back will ache for a week and you cant go more than 5 MPH. Get the week pass for the water taxi if you plan on going into town more than 2-3 times during your stay.

The pools at the resort are unmatched by any other resort. There are 3, or 2 1/2 depending on how you look at it. There is the front pool right along the beach which is shallow and nice to sun in and relax. Adjacent is the hot tub and swim up bar pool. Behind that is another deeper pool with a rock formation that is a water slide and a diving platform. The slide shoots you out super fast and it's a lot of fun. Jumping and diving off the top is also fun.

The Staff:
Norma at the front desk (Super nice and helpful)
Angel at the front desk (Super nice and helpful) He didn't call me a gringo once! lol
Larry the pool guy (Super nice, always made sure the pool was spotless and towels were available)
Don the IT guy (Super nice, orig from Mich. USA, moved there recently and was very helpful answering all our concerns about the food and malaria) (He went out of his way several times doing things not even in his job description to make sure we had everything we needed and providing helpful information)
Operations Manager - Didn't catch his name but very nice and always asked how we were and if we needed anything
Alex the server at The Upper Deck - Made sure we always had a Belikin beer and our food was good

Now for the few CONS:

There were a few things that were a bit disappointing. The service at the swim up bar is awful. The guys are nice enough but it literally takes them like 10 minutes to acknowledge you are there. I don't mind if someone is busy, but at least acknowledge me and say "I'll be with you in a minute" even if it takes 5 minutes that's better than feeling ignored. The prices for drinks are higher than other resorts as you may have read in other reviews. I do have to say though they are really only like $1 to $2 more. We had a problem with our phone the first day but Don the IT guy made sure we were up and running. Don is a super nice guy and Coco Beach is lucky to have him.

All in all Coco Beach resort is the nicest I saw on the entire island. The resort is literally brand new, our Casita looked like it had never been used before. The resort is beautiful and so are the people who work there.

THINGS TO KNOW:
1. The resort is north of the bridge and not within walking distance to town. You will need a water taxi pass to get to and from town. Just a quick 10 minute ride which is a lot of fun. Prices are reasonable and you don't get wet.
2. No restaurant till 2011. Research other restaurants. The ones listed above we rated within the top 20.
3. We had very little problems with bugs. We read reviews to the contrary so I guess it depends on the amount of rain. We only used our bug spray twice, once to go inland to see the Maya ruins, zip line and cave tube and another the morning after it rained. I think I got bit 3 times the entire week, my wife got bit maybe 5 times, she is much sweeter than I am!
4. Shop for groceries in town. The local shops/convenience stores are pricey.
5. Drink lot's of Belikin beer and rum Punch and relax!

The pool area is fantastic...pictures don't do this hotel justice...the rooms are immaculate and nicely furnished. The restaurant was not opened yet when we stayed but if we ever travel to Ambergris Caye we would stay at this hotel again!
