“Nice resort”
Reviewed 7 April 2009

We just got back from a wonderful trip to Belize and stayed a few nights at Las Terrazas Resort. Like the other users said, the restaurant is not open yet and Phase 2 of the resort construction has stalled. The rooms are very good for the price you pay. We had a 3-bedroom 2-bath condo over 2-stories with a roof top balcony view of the lagoon, ocean and pool. The condo does have 2 large plasma tvs with full lineup of cable tv channels (no HD). The beds and linen are clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are modern looking and large elegant showers. The kitchen have modern stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. There are some cups and plates in the cabinets but the cookware was old and rusty (maybe just for that particular unit). There is a washer/dryer unit in the condo so that was very convenient. The pool area was very nice and clean. There's a bar right next to the pool for drinks. Service was good and staff was very friendly and willing to help. Breakfast was simple - fruits and bread and cereal. nothing hot.
Recommendations for people planning to stay here: There's a island ferry that comes every hour or two to transfer you from San Pedro to Las Terrazas. It's not cheap - $8 each way, but it's cheaper than what we did - we took a private water taxi owned by Journey's End which cost $20 per person each way. For restaurants around the hotel, we ate at Luna's (Journey's End) which was pricey and not good at all. Rendevous, which is almost right next to Las Terrazas was very good. The Pad Thai was excellent - I know, shoot me for eating Thai food at Belize. San Pedro had more and better food choices, but you'll have to pay $16 for the island ferry round trip. We booked our excursions through White Sands Dive Shop at Journey's End, which was pricey but it was convenient. I'd recommend Ho Chan/ Shark Ray Alley but not the Tranquility Bay excursion because it was everything but "tranquil." Maybe it was the windy weather but the currents were too strong and made swimming in it very difficult and probably not safe.
The water that comes out of the faucets/shower has a strong sulfur (rotten eggs) smell, which was weird and annoying.
Overall our stay was pleasant and relaxing. Due the bad economy, Ambergris Caye was almost deserted. there are very few people around which was kinda spooky at times, but if you enjoy privacy, it's great. I'd stay there again if I ever visit Belize.

This place was great! Belize has been hit by the economic slowdown, so getting a room at this hotel is much easier than normal. Definitely recommend it for a gorgeous, relaxing getaway.
Pros:
-Beautiful pool area
-Friendly & helpful staff
-Impecable rooms - new, enourmous, granite countertops, full kitchens, king size beds, LCD TVs
-Far enough from San Pedro - (kind of run down there but fun to visit)
-Full access to Journey's End, so 2 hotels in one.
-Scuba next door
-Free breakfast - fairly basic, but good (having eggs or a waffle would have been nice)
-Free internet - wired in rooms and wireless at pool
-Free kayaks

Neutral:
-Restaurant is being renovated, but can walk to Journey's End or get room service. 3 minute walk from the property.
-Not tons to do around hotel, but this is typical of the island. Pool, scuba/snorkel, kayak, eat/drink, fising, go to San Pedro, Belize City, Cave Tubing, or Mayan Ruins, etc.
-You have to take a boat to get anywhere else, but that is true of all the hotels except for in San Pedro. However, hotels in San Pedro didn't seem worth staying at anyway.

Cons:
-Phase 2 isn't finished, so there is a dividing wall up which isn't pretty
-Gym is small but typical of small hotels. Walk/jog on the beach instead.

We very much enjoyed our time at this beautiful new property. Staff is professional and friendly, very helpful with questions before and during your stay. For divers, access to nearby White Sands dive shop is literally seconds away. For those interested in fishing, the many nearby piers and flats are patrolled by quality bonefish, these can be caught on flies or medium weight spinning tackle. Be sure to spend some time in San Pedro, those who are willing to explore local flavors will find that some fantastic experiences are to be had.

Las Terrazas offers spacious 3 bedroom / 2 bath / full living room and full kitchen condos for the price of a hotel room. The rooms include flat screen tvs and washer / dryer as well. The property is immaculate. Everything is new. The two story buildings offer roof access for viewing the sunset over the lagoon as well. The continental breakfast is generous. The pool is great. I look forward to staying there again.

We were looking for a quiet, little, relaxing place and found it in Las Terrazas. We didn't have to get up a 7:00 to reserve a chair at the pool, we never stood in line for anything, we didn't hear a car or a plane or worry about anything for the whole trip. Las Terrazas was everything it promised, a brand new facility with unbelievably spacious, well accommodated rooms, always extremely clean and well maintained. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. These rooms are for sale as time shares (don't worry, no sales pitches), which means they are actually small apartments, full kitchens, king suites etc. The main mode of transportation is boat, bicycle or walking. You can rent a golf cart or bike, but we enjoyed walking along the beach to dinner each evening, or taking a boat. Amenities are relatively lean at Las Terrazas, the restaurant isn't open (yet), the bar is only open around the pool in the pm. Which means it's not hard to take a siesta at pool side. Like I said we were looking for quiet and relaxing. There are a couple of restaurants and bars within 100 yards down the beach, which when you think about it was closer to our room than at the last all inclusive we stayed at. We walked or took a complimentary boat ride to a different restaurant every night. Next door is an associated hotel that shares privileges and has a dive shop, restaurant, pool and bar. The diving and snorkeling were by the way, fantastic and we had no idea the fishing was so good.

We heard some complaints about the smallish beaches (it's not Waikiki) but they're private so they suited us and the restaurant prices are a little steep but we had excellent food and this is a remote location in a developing nation.

I'm not saying it's for everybody, but for us, this place was perfect.

Hint: 1) Pickup some groceries and beer when you arrive in San Pedro, it'll save you time and money for lunches and happy hours.
2) Contact the hotel direct about connecting in Belize City. We were way misled by Expedia, their rep (Sammy) was clueless about the procedure. If we'd listened to her we would have missed the connection and been stranded in some little town up the coast the first night.

We have stayed at various properties in San Pedro and found Las Terrazas to be the best and most superior on the island. The condos are quite large and spacious and include everything you need for a home away from home. Flat screen plasma tv's, telephones and high speed internet, while not the norm for resorts on the island, are standard at Las Terrazas. We enjoyed the privacy and exclusivity that this beachfront resort offered us. When staying in town, the water view is not as pretty at this end of the island. Plus, when staying in town, the locals routinely come up to you while sunbathing or walking along the beach to sell you their wares. While the restaurant is not yet open, there is a complimentary continental breakfast and the food at the restaurant at their other resort is amazing! If you want a high end experience while on the island plus the advantage of "being away from it all" - this is the ideal resort!

Facility and staff are as wonderful and peaceful as could be desired . Minimalist facility design and beautiful landscaping with pool make it easy to relax. Since still being built the only challenge is no on-site restaurant and especially the limited hours for the bar. Water taxi service in Belize makes in easy to go to other great dining. For fun and good food try Captain Morgans and Portofino (great ambiance). Journeys End is adjacent and comanaged with nice food, bar, store and activities . Other nice hotels in the area but none with the sophistication and ambiance of LT. Staff couldn't be friendlier or with a better customer service attitude and they can arrange for an endless variety of activities and dining options. We highly recommend working with Mata Grande grocery [-]. Your order can be waiting in your condo when you arrive for a mere $10 charge - especially important are essentials like water, soda, etc. There is also a nice store at Captain Morgan's, a ten minute walk down the beach. Captain Morgans services and programs are more comprehensive than LT but have a stronger focus on children and many more guests. Las Terrazas has much more growing to do but will be incredible when the get some refinements implemented. After visiting many of the hotels - the personalized services, uncrowded and beautiful facilities are unmatched for adults wanting to relax. From the moment they meet you at the airport through the boat ride to the resort and your welcoming cocktail they appear to care about making you exert has little effort as little as possible.
