You MUST not miss going to El Fogon while visiting San Pedro. The food is so good and cooked over an open pit..hence…EL FOGON. We have eaten there several times while in San Pedro and our friends & us have always had great food and excellent service. It is a local must see, eat and enjoy! Conch fritters "to die for", salbutes delicious, everything excellent!
If you are adventurous….try the gibnuts (sorry for the spelling)…..not always available and usually served for lunch…..just ask Luis. They are very delicious!
Visit El Fogon…..you will not leave hungry or broke…..simply extremely satisfied:-)

Try to make it on Tuesday for the special fried chicken or Wednesday for curry chicken. We tried the whole fish, conch fritters, salbutes, and it was all good with great service. We went there 4 times in our two week stay!

I had the grilled spiny lobster for dinner and the Belezian Stewed Chicken for lunch (on a different day). I really like how they used their wood-fired fogon to cook the lobster. It was the best grilled lobster I have ever had. Also, for a special treat, ensure that you check out the custom basin in their washroom.

My boyfriend and I saw the Trip Advisor ratings and decided to see what the hype was about. We were NOT disappointed.

We ordered the Conch Fritters to share, Stew Chicken, and the Chimole. The Conch Fritters were very lightly battered and the conch was delicious (fresh from the ocean) and were served with a delicious zippy mustard sauce. Everyone else on the island adds way to much dough and deeps fries them until they are a soggy mess. The Stew Chicken was fall off the bone style and came with a heaping serving of rice and steamed plantain. The winner though is their Chimole. It tasted like a 1000 year old Mayan recipe and incorporated so many wonderful flavors of beans, meat and spices that had been slow cooked on the wood hearth. The stew had veggies, a hard boiled egg and heaping piece of chicken that was so tender it was falling off the bone.

Truly amazing. We also ordered a Dirty banana for dessert. Delicious.

We had a great meal at El Fogon! The waiter was extremely friendly. The food was incredible! We shared a chicken appetizer and then each had a different kabob with mango sauce, coconut rice, rice and beans, all great! Drinks were great also, even had those little umbrellas. This is true Belizean food and a wonderful place to enjoy an evening out.
