Amazing resort. This was a family trip for 7 nights. Stayed in a ground floor unit rented from a private couple - 2 bedroom 2 bath. Very spacious, clean, with a washer and dryer in the unit, full kitchen with upgraded appliances, spacious bathrooms, free wifi, cable, everything you could ask for. You can catch the water taxi from the pier on premises and even fish for snapper and other sea creatures right off the pier as well.
Restaurant on premises is great - great drinks and the best lobster cevice on the island!
Definitely consider renting a golf cart - the cab fare to and from San Pedro is $20US one way. The road from San Pedro to the resort is a back road, extremely unpaved so be prepared for a very bumpy ride.
Aji restaurant is within walking distance and is very good.
Would stay there again without second thoughts!

Just spent a great week at the Grand Caribe Resort located about 1.5 miles north of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Our 2 bedroom condo was ridiculously spacious and new with every amenity, was well stocked with every spice you could ever imagine. Daily housekeeping service was top notch and the girls even cheerfully hand washed some of our clothes. The only thing I might suggest is that they invest in some blackout curtains for the bedrooms. The sun comes up at 5:30 am and it would have been nice to have a little more darkness. Noise was never an issue. Every condo has an ocean view and the pool is spectacular with swim up bar/restaurant. There are also very nice beach lounges with umbrellas set up under the palms. Security is very good here, even though we haven't felt unsafe at any time, even when away from resort. Kayaks and bicycles were available to use, but I'd definitely recommend renting a golf cart for the time you are here. Kids caught plenty of fish off the peer.

Yesterday we went offshore fishing with Captain Rudy Lewis (KingRudy5@gmail.com) on Strike Force Belize 29'. To protect the reefs, these boats are only allowed to draw 3' of water and Rudy's boat was the widest around so it felt very stable even though at times seas were rough. Rudy and his mate, Victor, knew all the best spots and we were able to catch wahoo, blackfin tuna, huge barracuda (which the locals gladly took off our hands) and nice sized bonita. They also taught us a lot about the area. All this in only 3 hours! Afterwards, Hugo, the chef and owner of the Aji Tapa Bar and Restaurant down the street, prepared our fish 4 different ways for a wonderful white tablecloth dining experience under palm trees right on the beach. Chef Hugo can be seen purchasing only the freshest seafood right off the boats when they come in every afternoon so you know you are getting the best! For snorkeling, there is none other than Lil Alphonse Tours for sure! Lil Alphonse (who is not so little) gives Steve Irwin a run for his money in the contagious enthusiasm department and his love and respect for the reef environment are obvious. While other dive groups were swimming around their boat aimlessly, watching their captain smoke cigarettes, Alphonse had our group organized, in the water , and he was whispering up sharks, rays, and even showed folks how to hold a shark and pet a ray. Other groups were staring in disbelief at the fish he had called up by revving his motor a certain way. We saw several sea turtles, a manatee, tons of fish, and of course sharks and rays. We will go with him to dive Mexico Rocks for sure. Definitely wish we had purchased a digital waterproof camera before we came!

Dinner at Blue Water Grill was great! We recommend you make a reservation and they will tell you what time is best to get in ahead of any huge tables they might have coming.

The folks at the front desk have been very helpful and assisted us with all our bookings. Went snorkeling at All in all, it has been a great trip. We highly recommend this place and the wonderful hospitality of the Belizians.

Room Tip: We were in E3, which was centrally located and had a wonderful beach view. It was on ground floor...

Spectacular vacation! We were at this resort for 9 days (left 8/2). This was our family's second stay in San Pedro (last time we were south of the bridge). The Grand Caribe was awesome! We were in unit A-2 which is beach front, first floor. We were literally steps from the water and the dock. The pool was great after a day of ocean water or a day in town. The cleaning service was so perfect! To leave for the day and then come back with the unit spotless and clean clothes all smelling great and folded to perfection...so nice!! Everything was top notch. Granite, stainless steel appliances, upgraded kitchen and baths. The resort is a ways away from the hustle and bustle (one of the reasons we chose Grand Caribe) so the golf cart was a must for us. The roads though, were rough and bumpy (but that was expected, as they were last time too). Just our luck - they graded and were smoothing the road the morning we left. LOL.

All activities (scuba, snorkeling, fishing and catamaran ride) started with a quick pick up from the Grand Caribe dock, so that was handy. The kids fished off of the lighted dock every night and caught a lot of smaller fish. My son eventually caught a 20 pound Horse-eyed Jack - yummy.

The last morning we were there, a barge pulled up right to the south of the resort. I cannot confirm this, but was told that they were building shops to include a grocery store. In my opinion, this would be another asset to the property as the closest store is a ways away (not walkable), and we all liked to grocery shop and cook while we were there.

Three other families (with kids ages 14 - 20) were with us and everyone's unit was different but beautiful!! The staff was amazing and could not do enough for you.

We will be returning soon. Please feel free to email me with any questions.

Room Tip: Not all units have the same mattresses. A-2 and H-4 had great "tempurpedic" feeling beds...

We (family of four) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grande Caribe! We stayed in a two bedroom condo on the ground floor. Great access to the pool and beach... The kids loved the pools and hot tubs....constant ocean breeze. My youngest (12) and her dad even snorkeled from the dock. The staff couldn't have been any nicer or accommodating...arranged our flight to Ambergris Caye and all of our excursions (which picked us up at the dock). Yes, this resort is a ways out from San Pedro, but that is why we picked it....several great restaurants are within a 10-15 minutes walk up or down the beach. You can also take a taxi, water taxi, or rent a golf cart to go into town. We had a few quick meals at Cowboy Doug's , but your best bet is to venture out, either down the beach or into San Pedro for really good meals...daily housekeeping and laundry was a plus.

Just returned from 4 weeks in Belize saying at Grand Caribe.
This was our second year to stay at Grand Caribe and will be returning next year for 6 weeks.
This is the best resort on Ambergris Caye hands down.
The rooms are perfect with beautiful views from everywhere.
The service from everyone could not be beat.
Evelyn kept our condo spotless and decorated daily with fresh flowers and animals made with towels.
Ingrid and Wendy kept our alcoholic beverages of choice full at the bar and always greeted us by name.
The food was excellent and considering the size of the kitchen the cooks are miracle workers.
Any request made to the staff was fulfilled quickly and happily.
I can't say enough good things about Grand Caribe except we will not stay anywhere else on our yearly trip to Belize.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom condos are the best

Our 3 bedroom penthouse was beautiful. Ocean view with two large decks, one covered. Staff was excellent on arranging groceries to be deliver, delivering bags to our room, arranging golf cart, etc. very efficient. The restaurant is a bar and a point they need to work on. There is good restaurants w/n walking distance and in town as well. There is no fitness center on site and thus another point they need to work on. The pools are quite large and well taken care. The two hot tubs are pathetic. They are only 4 person tubs and that is way too small for a compiles this size. The jets also didnt work properly. The complex isn't quite to the level where you can just hang out there and not leave, so you will need a golf cart or pay the high water taxi fees into town. From our third floor condo, we could see the trash dump across the road from the complex. Belize is an interesting place to have such a beautiful resort next to what looks like an illegal dump. The road to the resort is a dirt/mud path. I suggest Grand Caribe provide water taxi's directly to the complex instead of the adventure on the road.
Pros:
Beautiful complex and rooms
Great staff
Nice man made beach
Cons:
No fitness center
No restaurant
Hot tubs are inadequate
Too far from town to walk
No on site bicycle rental
