My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay! Friendly, courteous staff were more like friends! Rooms were kept very clean and grounds are beautiful! Great restaurant and dive adventures right outside as well! Will definitely be back one day!

After months of Belize research, we decided to book our spring break stay at the Villas at Banyan Bay. This proved to be a great decision all around. This is a Condotel (Condo/Hotel) facility with full hotel services, such as daily housekeeping, bell service, etc.
We were in an upper floor unit - C6 - that faced the ocean, which made for some beautiful sunrises.
The hotel was easy to get to upon arriving at Ambergris Caye (via Mayan Island Air from Belize City), and the hotel paid fo rour cab fare from the airport. We were greeted warmly and the hotel staff checked us in to our room early. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and well appointed our unit was.
The one and only downside was the restaurant on site. Rico's is overpriced and the service is very poor, so we ate at other places whenever possible. There is a lovely bakery next door, and several hotels with restaurants nearby. Bananna Beach Hotel's restaurant was a short walk and the food was infinitely better.
The dive pro shop located on the pier was outstanding. Victor was very helpful with scheduling our excursions and keeping us apprised of any last minute schedule changes. Chris was an excellent Hol Chan & Shark Ray alley guide, and Alex took us fishing to all the great snapper hiding spots!
Only two of us went on this trip, but this would be ideal for a family trip as well.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms here, as far as I can tell!

We can not say enough great things about this place. We have returned many times. The staff is polite, friendly, and very helpful. They are always eager to please you and make your vacation enjoyable. The rooms are always clean and neat. If you need anything they try to accommodate. In the past we have stayed other places on the island, but since we found Banyan Bay.....it is our choice of place to stay. Great pool and beautiful beach. We ate at Rico's numerous times. Food was excellent. We had a couple massages at their spa. Luna did a wonderful job. I would recommend this place. It is very family friendly as well as a great place for couples. We really like the location too. You can rent a golf cart or walk if you choose. We walked to town everyday. We will return!

Our family of five spent a week in a 2-room condo. The best part of this hotel is the location. We have been to Ambregris Caye before. At that time we stayed north of San Pedro, which is trickier to get to. For travellers that are new to this area, you should know that this is a bit of a remote location. Once you land in Belize City, there are two ways to get to Ambregris Caye: boat or small plane. We have tried both, and the small plane (book with Tropic Air) is the way to go. You will arrive to San Pedro, which is the "big" town. The Villas at the Banyan are located south of San Pedro. You will need to take a taxi to the hotel (the hotel will pay for this). It is only a short ride away. The hotel staff was super friendly and accommodating. The condo units are privately owned, so there is some interior variation in terms of decoration and furniture selection. Our unit D5 was located on the second floor and it was perfectly fine. The complex is well maintained and the beach area is fantastic. One area that needs to be up-dated is the pool area. We were there for spring break and it was crowded around the pool at times. There isn't sufficient seating areas around the pool to facilitate a crowd like that. In fact, because of the space limitations around the pool, I do not think this is a great location for families with young children - at least not at peak periods. Also, I wish there was an onsite laundromat for guests to use. The hotel offers laundry service (pay by item), which doesn't cut it when you travel with children. The hotel has golf cars for rent and bicycles to use. The on site restaurant Rico's is mediocre and quite expensive. Instead, we found Antojito's Resturant (across the street from the bakery) to be great and far better value. Overall, this is a beautiful spot and I would gladly stay at the Villas at Banyan Bay again!

Three of us stayed for a week in a 2-room condo. Compared to other hotels on Ambregris, this place gets an "excellent" rating. Complared to other condo-style island resorts, it gets a "very good" rating. But since you are looking at Ambergriss caye hotels, I would highly reccomend this place. The location is fantastic, about 1.5 miles from downtwon San Pedro, just far enough to be out of the bustle of the city, cloes enough to walk, bike or golf cart to town for food, shopping, etc.
Therer are eight condo buildings with four rooms per building. Two buildings on either side of a pool area face the ocean. The others face the pool. Pool area is somewhat small, but nicely laid out and surrounded by pretty flora. Not enough umbrellas though, so you cannot get shade unless you get a chair under an umbrella early in the morning. Also, there is a bar at the pool but it was cloed the entire week we were there.
The best aspect of this property in my opinion is the dive operation located on the dock connected to the property. It's the nicest dock on the island, and the dive operation is also fantastic, called Belize Pro Dive Center. We dove with them for five days, and they are fantastic. Look for my review of them onTrip Advisor if you want to dive.
Also at Banyan Bay is a restaurant clled Rico's, located at the base of the doce, on the beach. It's got great views of the water, in and outside seating, and they do a good job with service and food. Rico's is super conenient.
Our room was OK but nothing exceptional. Every wall covered with cheap nick-nacks and posters, cheesy framed prints, etc. The furinture was comfy though! Beds were also comfy. Kitchen was small but worked well, had the basics for food prep & service. AC worked well. Quiet at night, we slept well. The patio area to our condo had sufficient chairs & small table, nothing fancy. Front desk personell were friendly, as was everyone else we encountered on the property. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay, and if we returned to Ambergriss, we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Highly reccomend this property for divers.

We spent a week here and really enjoyed this as a jump off spot for our adventures. The best secret is that it is located next door to The Baker, don't miss this treat. Cinnamon buns sell out early. Rico's restaurant right on the beach is very good and has outside seating which is wonderful for dinner. The Hidden Treasure restaurant is a couple of blocks to the south and they will pick you up for free. This is a spectacular spot, don't miss it. The Villas are about a thirty minute walk from town along the beach and it's the easiest path to take. There is a dive shop at the pier so trips are convenient and competitively priced. There is a grocery store about a block down the street and as you can tell, you don't feel like you are too far away from everything. Actually just the right distance, not right in town. The villas are well maintained and the staff is very friendly. We loved sitting on our balcony for breakfast and cocktails, sometimes at the same time..... The grounds are very well maintained and the pool is nice as well. They have a nice beach area and were rebuilding their seawall when we were there.
Only complaints would be the front desk staff could be a little friendlier and the dive lessons in the pool did get in the way of others enjoying the entire pool. Overall, loved it and will come back.

Room Tip: Get a second floor room and try for as close to the water as possible for the view.

My wife and I spent two weeks here and our stay was most enjoyable. Bottom line is we plan to go back. Staff was friendly and helpful, and they kept the grounds and pool and spacious rooms clean and pretty. We wanted a quiet restful place and Banyan filled the bill. The restaurant was okay, especially the fish dishes. I'm from the South and I would rate the restaurant barbeque as ``ordinary.'' Be advised the restaurant bartender is skimpy on alcohol when it comes to mixed drinks. The dive shop staff was first rate - we went on four snorkeling trips and those trips were the high point of our stay. Only complaint we had was the spotty wifi. My wife and I both have ipads and we had to resort to going to hotel lobby to send and receive email. This was a minor inconvenience however and we would not hesitate to recommend this resort.

Room Tip: condos in section d,c,f have great partial views of ocean. second floor rooms are best in our opinio...
