The Lodge: Clean, comfortable and very well run. The Owners, the manager and the staff are all top notch and will work hard to make your stay enjoyable. Its one of the main reasons I return with friends and family. This is important if you have travelled abroad to fly fishing lodges, not all are the same in this regard. All transfers, meals and lodging requests have always been smooth and enjoyable. There is a variety of rooms, villas and pools on site from a basic room to very nice stand alone villas for family's.

The Food: All meals were good (as usual), freshly prepared. Fish, beef, lobster, chicken etc.... Lots to choose from. Boat lunches are particulary well done especially when compared to other lodges. No more soggy sandwiches! Plenty of variety and great portions. My dad will testify if need be!

The Fishing: If you are a novice or you are looking to get a slam, You'll be well served to consider this lodge. There are solid populations of Permit, Tarpon and bonefish giving you a shot at the slam any time of year. The permit fishing is what brings me back because they are the toughest of the three. My friend is new to flats fishing with a fly rod and had legitimate shots at all three species even with some spotty weather. Tarpon can run very big depending on the time of year but resident fish provide opportunity year round. The bonefish run small (don't expect fish bigger than a couple pounds) but are plentiful and provide action when weather or other species are tough. Summary: we had shots at Permit, Tarpon, bonefish, jacks and Snook. Landing permit and bones and jacks, cuda and snapper.

Lastly, this is a good choice for famlies or hardcore fisherman. The lodge can keep the kids happy, there is alot of activities in Belize and the lodge staff will set it up for you. The Pools and grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Staff is awesome. They work hard to provide a good experience. Let them know what your looking to do, fishing or otherwise and they can set it up. Fishing for these fish can be tough, and you should know that you still gotta make the cast to have a chance. I like my chances at El Pescador.

My friend and i just spent 5 great days at El Pescador. The transfers were seamless, they warmly welcomed us and the staff was very polite and extremely helpful throughout our stay. We didn't have to ask for hardly anything because of their attentiveness, and when we did, everything was well done with a smile. The fishing and guides were great. Our villa was very nice and private. The meals were very good and the company of the other guests was great. We'll go back.

The entire staff were nice and personable, We had a one bed room villa that was very nice and clean. We were there to fish and the guide and staff were all helpful. We loved meeting in the bar to hear how others did fishing and the family style dinners allowed us to meet some great people from around the world. I will definitely be going back.

After my third trip to El Pescador, I wanted to take the time to write a review of this resort, its management, and staff. This place is amazing! We love it so much we've been three times and are already planning the next trip.
This is a resort that caters to fly fisherman and does a wonderful job at that. They have a fishing hostess who is an Orvis-endorsed guide and really knows her stuff. She can help all anglers from the beginner to the advanced improve their cast. The fishing is great - lots of pristine flats w/ schools of bonefish and permit. And some nice tarpon spots too.
The fishing guides are excellent. They all speak English, know where the fish are and don't fish on top of each other.
What makes this place special though is that it also caters to the non-fisherman in the group. Plenty of activities like snorkeling and massages, guided tours to the mainland, etc.
The resort is family-owned and the family is on-site running this operation. The staff is an extended part of the family that owns the resort. They do a wonderful job of making the guests feel like part of the family too. All of the staff immediately knows your name. Their care and concern for their guests is obvious in their gracious hospitality.
The food is served in a family style buffet and guests mix and mingle regularly here. The food is very good and plentiful. It's a great place to meet others, and to relax.
I really can't say enough great things about El Pescador, but it speaks volumes that we are ready to plan a 4th trip!

We just returned from a family fishing/beach/snorkeling trip with the entire family. We are all in agreement that the staff at El Pescador understands service well beyond the norm. Where and how did they find these people? They made you feel like family from the moment you arrive and when you leave you feel like you are leaving family. I avoid writing reviews, but this time I felt they deserved the recognition. Oh, and by the way, the facilities are absolutely great.

Just returned from a quick father/son fishing trip to El Pescador, and it was fantastic. The place has a wonderful atmosphere, the people (both staff and other guests) were a pleasure to be around, and the weather and fishing were great. I will not soon forget the apres-fishing around the bar, complete with pool table, Jimmy Buffett channel on XM, and bottomless rum drinks. All in all a perfect fishing trip!

Those were the first words said by our boat captain as we stepped aboard and were offered a "welcome beverage", which was much needed after a very long travel experience! From that moment until the moment we stepped back off of that boat, we had the time of our lives! Fishing with a fabulous guide, a beautiful room (the villa upgrade is so worth it!), delicious food, relaxed but top notch service, and white sand at the doorstep-raked to perfection every morning!! The family-style dinner let us get to know other guests(some of whom we will probably see again when we return!) and hear about the fishing! The entire staff was incredible & we appreciated the TEAM attitude they had about accommodating the guests. I could go on and on... If you're looking for fishing, luxury, and relaxation, but off the beaten path-THIS IS IT!
Thank you, El Pescador, for a trip we won't ever forget!! We WILL see you again! :)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
El Pescador’s beachfront lodge and villas are situated on over 45 private acres with ambiance, specializing in fishing, diving and eco-adventures. We are family-owned and operated with emphasis on creating camaraderie and an authentic Belizean experience. El Pescador is proud of our philosophy to protect and nurture friendship, adventure and the environment. El Pescador has long been known as a world-class fishing destination offering outstanding flats fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. El Pescador has been the only resort on Ambergris Caye specializing in saltwater flats fishing since 1974. Since coming under new ownership in 1997, the resort has established itself as an eco-friendly tropical getaway, including a commitment to offset all carbon emissions generated by its guests flying to Belize. Donations are made on behalf of guests to a local Belizean non-profit organization, Green Reef Environmental Educational and Coastal Research Institute, to offset the carbon emissions used to travel to Belize. El Pescador was also among the key organizations to implement the new Law protecting bonefish, tarpon and permit as catch and release species. This is the most all encompassing legislation of its kind worldwide. It is great news for Belizeans, anglers, tourists and conservationists alike. El Pescador is a serene and gracious establishment on the doorstep of the world’s largest living Barrier Reef. El Pescador offers accommodations in guest rooms within its colonial style, mahogany main lodge, as well as in 1, 2, and 3 bedroom luxury beachfront villas. The villas are perfect accommodations for couples seeking romance and privacy, and for families and small groups traveling together. All rooms and villas are beachfront and have unobstructed views of the Caribbean blue waters. In addition to unequaled fishing, this first-rate resort offers all the eco-adventures which take full advantage of Belize’s exotic flora and fauna. Scuba diving, snorkeling, manatee watching, cave-tubing and zip-lining, and Maya archaeological explorations are just a small assortment of the activities available while staying at El Pescador. ... more   less
