The Victoria House helped to give us the most amazing honeymoon. The grounds are taken very well care of. It is beautifully landscaped and exactly what paradise should look like. The beach and pools are private and quiet. The staff is excellent. The location is perfect because you are out of town (which isn't too impressive) but it is not too far out of town. Overall, I would highly recommend a stay at the Victoria House, but don't bring your kids! This should be a resort only for couples!

Absolutely loved our stay at Victoria House. The staff were all fantastic, our orientation with Manuel allowed us to immediately unleash the stress of London. The gentle banter in the bar stopped us from over heating in the midday sun. Our accommodation (a casita), although small was more than adequate for us and the pools were great with stunning views. We highly recommend Victoria House but wish it was closer to London!

My husband and I had a wonderful 4 night stay at VH recently. It is such a beautiful resort and is even more beautiful in person than online. It is about 2 miles from downtown San Pedro and it is too far to walk (but you could bike, drive or take a taxi). We stayed in one of the staterooms and it was great. Very comfortable bed and spacious shower. It was not a big deal having a shared balcony; we were usually the only people sitting up there. We could hardly hear noise from neighbors and the downstairs restaurant. The staff at VH really go out of their way to help you in any way. We were even greeted with delicious fruit drinks when we arrived early! There are hammocks on the beach and 2 pools to swim in. There is 1 area on the beach that is good for swimming. The food at the bar and restaurant is really, really good but we only ate there twice besides breakfast (wanted to try local places). The included breakfast is good if you are looking for something heavy. We booked an all day snorkel trip through the dive shop and it was great! We also borrowed kayaks and bikes from the resort. Golf carts are really expensive to rent, but it is fun to drive around town. VH was probably the best part of our trip to Ambergris Caye and I highly recommend it.

Upon arrival to the Victoria House we were greeted at the front desk with open arms. "We were waiting for you Mr. and Mrs. Johnson" made us feel great. An instant tour of the grounds from Manuel (nicest guy in Central America) and an escort to our room gave us the feeling that we had found home for a week. We ate dinner at the grounds bar and the choices were FANTASTIC. The lobster, shrimp, grouper ceviche made our day and if you do not try the Marie Sharps hot sauce you are cheating yourself. I thinnk we ordered the scallops everyday! Karlos, Justin, and Roxy in the bar couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. The Olympics were on and do not deny yourself a Belikin. There are bar puzzles and watch out for Justins dollar bill trick! The regular pool and infinity pool have waiters that constantly make sure you are taken care of and they couldnt be more relaxing or comfortable. Dinner on the patio overlooking the ocean and breakfast overlooking the same ocean every morning was beyond perfect. We stayed in the corner suite above the pool and the A/C kept our room super cold. They have free wifi so bring your ipad. Everyone speaks perfect English so worrying about not being able to get your point across is not an issue. The dive shop was amazing. Super accomodating. Do yourself a favor and try the fish, BBQ, and Snorkel. It was the best day we had there. Alberto was our guide and boat driver and he was awesome. We went into town and met many wonderful people as well as people on the grounds that we would gladly hang out with back in the states. I won the Chicken Drop at Wahoos, ate at Wild Mangos, Blue Water Grill, Hidden Treasures, among others and all were the best and freshest seafood we have ever had. The only warnings I have are bring OFF (bug spray but the grounds at Victoria House have very few bugs due to measures they take) if you do get bit the hemp oil stops the itching. It is humid but if you travel near the rain forest and equator and expect non humidity you need to have your head examined. Our honeymoon was perfect and if you travel to Belize I highly recommend the Victoria House. Best vacation I have ever taken.

Room Tip: every room was quiet but we had the corner suite on the shared balcony and it was perfect. no ditnes...

Mixed views on this hotel, had very high expectations of this hotel and perhaps this is why it didn't quite measure up - perhpas 3* a little harsh.....

The good:
- All the rooms seemed to have good views of the beach
- The beach itself looks picture perfect from a distance, great location for the hotel - but see comment below on sand etc
- The dive shop - we chartered a boat for the day to go snorkelling and it was a fantastic trip - well worth the money they take you where you want much nicer than the group tours
- You can take a short walk to a restaurant called hidden treasure where the food was great
- The main town itself is about a 5 min taxi ride and has some nice restaurants
- The staff did try very hard to rectify any problems and go out of their way to make up for anything that wasn't quite right

The bad:
- In general the property is smaller than I expected and almost felt cramped
- The room we had (casita) whilst fine was small for the price
- The food - we had lunch here most days and the food was OK at best. Did not eat here in the evening.
- The breakfast that was included in our deal (continental) is Very limited - only dry pastry and basic fruit salad on offer, really poor compared to other hotels of this standard. Victoria House should really sort this out. Anything else you had to pay additional for.
- The beach whilst beautiful does not have deep sand - it is very thin in places so the reality doesn't quite live up to the picture, also there is a lot of weed from the sea. Not a big deal but you can't easily swim from the beach.
- The pool is freezing so I didn't go in
- It was our honeymoon and there was no mention of this - not even a congratulations on arrival

Overall Ambergis Caye is such a laid back place if you are going relax and enjoy - It is probably the most "luxury" place on the island so don't let the small imperfections get in the way!

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the main eating area, as this is sometimes noisey at night

Dear Jenn3777

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Victoria House. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed your snorkeling trip with one of our top guides!

I’m sorry to hear that you felt our property is too small and that we didn't exceed your expectations in every way – we’re an intimate, 42-room hotel on 600 feet of beach and we all take a lot of pride in making our guests fee

We receive a good number of compliments about our food – breakfast, lunch and dinner - so I’m concerned that you found our menu lacking in any way. It’s certainly not the norm to hear that the menu options weren’t exceptional in both quality and presentation and if you’d care to share some of the details with me at info@victoria-house.com I’d appreciate it.

Our baker, Ms. Janice, bakes fresh breads, buns and pastries 6 mornings a week, so I’ll speak with her and our chef about what’s on the menu right now. Our complimentary Continental Light Breakfast is quite popular with our guests who wish only a light breakfast and, as you note, there is a full a-la-carte menu available for those with heartier appetites.

Our beaches are quite different that beaches you’d find, for example, in the Eastern Caribbean. Ambergris Caye is less than a mile from the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and the reef actually meets the land on the northern end of the island. This proximity to the reef and the resulting lack of wave action results in the type of beach characteristic to Ambergris Caye, complete with the abundant turtle grass you observed. At certain times of the year we do have some deep-water seaweed wash up on our beaches, which our maintenance crew removes daily.

We don’t artificially heat any of our 4 swimming pools - the natural heat of the sun does a great job most of the year, but I do wish the water temperature had been more to your liking.

I’m so sorry that we weren’t informed about you being on your honeymoon prior to your arrival – we’re always excited about having newlyweds at Victoria House, and genuinely enjoy congratulating them as the begin their new lives.

On the behalf of all of us, I’d like to wish you many years of happiness together.

Best Regards,

Brent Kirkman GM

Since it was our honeymoon, we decided to go above what would otherwise be our usual budget, but we are so glad that we did! We had a Casita for three nights and on the first day, we knew we wanted to stay an extra night. Unfortunately, they only had a plantation room without a view, but it was still a fine room. Still, the Casita is the way to go! Between the thatched roof, the hammock out front and the comfortable furniture, air conditioning and the other and amenities, it was a great choice. The worst part about the rooms was that the bathrooms do not have a ceiling, and so the amount of privacy you have while inside them was a little lacking.

The hotel grounds are amazing. Two pools, including the very relaxing infinity pool, which also had a thatched room over one end to keep you out of the sun. The bar had a great selection, but was much closer to "American" prices that some of the other parts of the country. The meals were also a bit pricey, but with the complimentary continental breakfast of fruit and a few pastries, splurging for dinner on the last night of the trip wasn't too bad. For the most part, we went in to town for meals though. We either took the shuttle that ran about 4 times a day (we would suggest the hotel offer the shuttle earlier and later in the day, even if it was for a small fee). Regardless, don't mess around with getting a golf cart unless you can afford it or want to explore the more distant parts of the island. We also appreciated the internet station in the gift shop.

The staff was also excellent, and we met a lot of great people staying at the resort, including a number of honeymooners. The dive shop is also a nice resource, including free rentals for the snorkel and kayak equipment. It is also nice to have a dock on site where other tour companies can just pick you up for an excursion.

I'm sure there are other nice places on the island, but we couldn't go back without staying at the Victoria House. Also, be sure to wake up early for at least one sunrise!

My Husband and I just spent a week at Victoria House to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary. We had a great time, and will definitely want to come back to Belize and stay at Victoria House.

The food was outstanding! We had the FAP meal plan, so ate all of our meals here and there were so many things we wanted to try but we ran out of days. We loved the lunch and dinner menu, can't say enough good things about the food.

We stayed in Casita number 4, which was nice. It has a great view of the beach and ocean and was very close to the infinity pool. The rooms were very clean and the bed was very big and comfortable. The bathroom and closet space was a little small, but we definitely were able to manage without any problems.

We spent most of our days lounging by the infinity pool sipping drinks, and only left the resort twice to go fishing. My husband loves salt water fly fishing and thought Belize was better than the Florida Keys and Turks and Caicos. Both pools have great views of the beach and ocean. The beach is relatively small, but that didn't bother us at all. I'd rather swim in a pool anyway.

I was able to get a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, and ear candling. All were great treatments and its so nice to have all of it done on the beach or in your room.

We had the reef romance package, and were glad we decided with that option since everything except alcohol was already included. The staff was very friendly. When it came time to checkout, there wasn't any hidden charges and they made it very easy. The were waiting at the airport when we arrived, and took us back when it was time to leave.

We had a wonderful time, and can't wait to hopefully come back soon!

Room Tip: Casita number 4 was great. The view seems to be one of the best, and it was closest to the infinity...
