Victoria House is a beautiful resort in San Pedro. The service and accommodations are top notch, and we really enjoyed our stay last summer. The restaurant was very nice, although we opted for room service for most of our meals.

There is no place for a family vacation on the white Caribbean Sea sands like the Victoria House where the warm ambiance welcome you with theCaribbean breeze whistling. The staff, food and rooms were fabulous.

Sorry but we need to be honest about this - we were on honeymoon and had a very poor experience. We're Australian and very well travelled whilst being pretty laid back. It all started with no airport pickup. After the taxi we were greeted with no room, and then after mysterious delays, our Plantation Room was a very basic room in the house which was part of the maid quarters thus no privacy. I suspect our booking was forgotten as none of the requested honeymoon benefits were provided. Plumbing was atrocious in our room and was a 3 flush minimum without toilet paper, and the bathtub was for the size of 2 small children and was not aesthetically appealing to bathe in.
The beach was filthy;
Golf cart rental was double the going rate up the street;
Service charge applied to everything plus requests for tips;
We booked a dive to the Blue Hole through the hotel dive shop and were advised to take dive equipment hired through Victoria House - lugging it from the hotel at 5am on a transfer boat to the dive shop of Amigos Del Mar where we could have hired the equipment instead of transporting it between sites;
No in-room wifi or even a phone to call for room service or any amenities;
The inclusive breakfast was a joke and an opportunity to sell extras; We ate in the restaurant on the first of five nights and that was the only time we ate at the hotel - we became regular patrons at Robin's Kitchen up the road for about 15% of the price (simple meals but best jerk chicken of our lives) and for a romantic meal Hidden Treasures was beautifully authentic and the restaurant provides complimentary transfers if you wish not to walk the 7 minute adventure.
Whilst it's nice that Victoria House may be slightly further afield from other resorts closer to town, it doesn't need to feel that the services provided by the hotel feel as though they are also located outside of the hotel.

Dear writetomarlon,

We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your recent stay at Victoria House, and we thank you for your feedback. Constructive criticism is, I assure you, always welcome and I agree that honesty is indeed the best policy. It’s one that’s served us well here for many years.

Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. While we are certainly not the least expensive resort/destination in Belize, neither are we the most expensive.

Since the majority of our guests are in fact North American, we take this into consideration when designing our menus, all the while maintaining a distinctive local flavor and using only the highest quality produce and ingredients. As to unbelizean drinks, it’s true that we offer a wide variety of spirits from ‘round the world at the Admiral Nelsons Bar, as well as various Caribbean and Belizean rums and a reasonably extensive wine list. Our bartenders are well versed in the art of tropical drinks as well as entertaining tricks and puzzles made from indigenous Belizean hardwoods, and always up to the challenge of learning a new recipe.

And it goes without saying that we serve ice cold Belikin®, The Official Beer of Belize.

Over the years we’ve engaged the services of Belizean chefs as well as chefs from Ireland, Japan, Mexico and the United States. None from Australia yet, but who knows what the future might have in store? Each of these talented individuals has shared his or her training, knowledge and experience with our long-term sous chefs & prep chefs, resulting in fare and a dining experience that pleases most of the most discerning of palates.

Our complimentary “Continental Light” breakfast is actually quite popular, consisting, as it does of freshly squeezed orange juice, tea or coffee, a pastry basket and fruit plate. The full breakfast menu is of course available for those with heartier appetites.

We endeavor to meet & pick up every guest on arrival, whether it’s their first time at Victoria House or they’ve been coming here for so many years that they remember when the road was actually on the beach. I regret that our driver was transporting other guests you were not extended this same courtesy and that you were obliged to catch a complimentary cab – this certainly shouldn’t have happened.

Check in time at Victoria House is 3:00 PM, and while we do our very best to have our guest’s rooms ready whenever they arrive, that’s not always possible as check-out time is 12:00 noon. This was the case on the day of your arrival, unfortunately.

We actually don’t have any maid’s quarters anywhere at Victoria House. Perhaps you’re referring to your villa’s linen storage room, which is located on the ground floor and accessed by a separate back door.

I can assure you that your booking wasn’t forgotten or overlooked. We’ve reviewed your correspondence with our reservations office, searching in vain for reference to any amenities or benefits that may have been requested.

I’m sorry that we didn’t have an opportunity to address any plumbing issues that you may have experienced, as we do have staff on call 24 hours a day to assist with matters of this sort the moment they’re reported.

You may have observed 3 or more maintenance department employees on the beach in front of your villa on a regular basis. San Pedro is somehow perfectly situated to have an abundance of seaweed wash up on our beaches almost daily during some seasons.

The beaches of San Pedro are different from beaches many tourists are accustomed to, shallow as they are due to the proximity of the barrier reef. Unfortunately not all property owners do so, but we take a great deal of pride in the fact that we manicure and remove seaweed and other wash-up from our beach daily, 365 days a year.

For our guest’s convenience, golf cart rentals are available through our front desk. Hourly, daily and weekly rates are set by the company that we contract with supply and maintain the carts. This company has an office in San Pedro where carts are rented at exactly the same rate. While rates are pretty well standard with the larger, more reputable companies, discounts are sometimes available for direct bookings or during slow season and there are some cheaper rentals available that our guests may deal with directly, should they choose do so.

We apply a service charge to many of the services and amenities provided at Victoria House. This service charge is disbursed to every employee, the philosophy being that everyone’s effort and input is critical to providing the extraordinary guest experience that we’re known for: tipping is of course completely at the discretion of the individual guest.

It goes without saying therefore that “requests for tips” (regardless of whether or not a service charge is applicable to the particular service provided) isn’t permitted under any circumstances.

If you’d care to share your observations on this subject, please contact me at info@victoria-house.com Your email will be forwarded immediately to my personal address.

Amigos del Mar is one of the many excellent local service providers that we do business with. Aside from bookings from hotels, they cater to walk-in customers as well as direct bookings from abroad. Equipment is available at our dive shop to ensure that our guests avoid delays and disappointment should the correct gear not be available for them, as well as to expedite the process of heading out on the day’s adventure.

We do not have telephones in our rooms, but we do advertise and provide wifi hotspots in the Admiral Nelsons Bar and the main pool deck.

I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed two of our favorite neighborhood dining spots. For a small community, San Pedro has an amazing number of excellent restaurants, each with something to please almost everyone.

I hope you thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of your vacation.

We just got back from our honeymoon in Belize. We spent the first four nights of the honeymoon at Victoria House. The resort arranged our transportation from BZE and met us exactly at the time of our flight's arrival into San Pedro to transport us to the resort via golf cart (the main form of transportation on the island). On arrival we were greeted with fresh and delicious fruit punch and given a tour of the gorgeous grounds.

We were there during a very busy time (arrived Christmas Eve) so ended up staying in two different rooms which was a bit of a hassle, but the transition was very smooth. We started in the state room which is in the old main building. It was nice but a little bit small. One perk is that you could access the internet from the room because it was so close to the common area. We spent our last night in a plantation room which was beautiful and spacious and had its own private deck. I think for the price difference, I would stay in the state room again over the plantation room, but they were both great.

The restaurant at the resort was wonderful. We had dinner there the first night and ate breakfast there every morning. I thought the continental (free) breakfast was plenty to fill me up until lunch. We did try the waffles on our last day and they were amazing! We had the snapper and the ribs for dinner our first night and both were fantastic.

The service was impeccable. From the front desk to the dive shop, everyone was so helpful. We went diving two days and went snorkeling another day. Everything was set up by the dive shop and went off without a hitch.

We made use of the free bicycles a few times and rode into town which was a quick and easy ride. They give you locks to use while you are in town to lock up the bikes.

Victoria House on Ambergris Caye has small but very well-groomed grounds, a minimal but clean beach. Rooms are average size, although we stayed at Casa Playa Blanca which allowed use of a living room and mini-kitchen area, as well as a 12-20 foot plunge pool (cleaned daily). The housekeeping standards were good and towels were well-stocked. The rooms are somewhat old fashioned and the bathrooms could use some upgrading, only one sink, dated showers and an open ceiling that exposes the bathrooms to the sleeping area. Each room had a powerful air-conditioner, lots of windows and doors overlooking the beach.

The beach is cleaned every morning but the area is not really suitable for swimming or snorkeling because of sea grass, shells, debris and boat traffic. We walked along the beach to town, about 2 miles distant, and Victoria House had the cleanest, best-cared for beach, by far. Most of the other beach areas were filled with washed-up sea grass and garbage.

The restaurant is small, sedate, quiet and well-staffed. (All the staff at the hotel are very helpful and congenial.) The menu is limited but all the items are delicious, though expensive (20-30+ per entree). We walked through the town and peeked into many restaurants, none of which looked very appealing, though the food might be quite good. Depends on how much you value atmosphere versus local color.

Luis, at the dock, was very knowledgeable and helpful for arranging snorkelling and other types of trips.

Overall, the nicest property that we could find ion the area south of San Pedro. Not quite the 5 star properties that one can find elsewhere in the Caribbean and certainly not a place to visit if one wants a generous beach for lounging and swimming. (See Anguilla for that.)

Room Tip: The property's rooms on the beach are the nicest.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Victoria House. The property is beautiful with a private beach, several pools, and plenty of palm trees for shade. From San Pedro it is approximately 2 miles to the hotel, which provides just enough quiet and seclusion. The staff was very helpful and friendly and frequently went out of their way to help. You can easily go into town for dinner but the restaurant at the hotel serves high quality food. For activities, Victoria House has a dock with equipment for snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, etc. They can book your tours there, or you can use another tour operator who will just pick you up at the end of the dock. This is a great place to relax and enjoy Belize!

i wish i could afford to stay here. we initially ran into the bar the day after we arrived on ambergris caye to get out of a rain shower. had the key lime bruele. are you serious. i can't even spell it, but i wanted to adopt it for my own. we decided we'd come for our last night's dinner. they sent a golf cart for us, we sat by the pool with a sea breeze, had a server who could work at any top restaurant and food to kill for. lobster strips, lightly breaded. i want more. grouper and snapper cooked to perfection. and yes, one more of those key lime things i can't spell.
dieting is not for this restaurant.
the entire facility was top notch, a resort that i may have to start saving for. and start dieting for
