I have stayed at Victoria House three times so far, and it is a wonderfully relaxing oasis with beautiful grounds, friendly and helpful staff, and great food. Many water activities are available too. The casual elegance of Victoria House is a real treat for a romantic getaway, or just a sunbreak. I think it is the best place in Belize.

We were recently at Victoria House for a quick getaway and nad a great experience. The staff is outstanding, incredibly friendly and helpful, and the accommodations were very good. The onsite restaurant is also worth multiple visits, although part of the charm of Ambergris Caye is riding bikes into San Pedro for lunches, dinner, etc. Hotel is well situated, about 2 miles from the town center, an easy, comfortable bike ride, yet far enough away that you don't hear all of the beach bars if you don't want to. We'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask to be close to the beach. We were closer to the pool. Still lovely, but would've preferred...

We booked a 5 day trip for 2 families at Victoria House and were not disappointed. The resort is beautifully tended to and the staff could not be more accommodating. If you are interested in fishing, diving or snorkeling, then this is the perfect place to stay as all activities come to you. However, if you have younger children looking for a big beach and surf, they will be disappointed. The hotel sets on a part of the Caribbean with the reef about 100 yard offshore. It makes for very calm waters, but no surf and a fair amount of sea grass right offshore. Not a problem for our family with older kids who were here for the fishing, but younger children hoping to build sand castles on the beach might not have so much fun here. Avoid room #11 if possible. Overheard fellow guests complaining about the noise in that room (it sits above the air conditioner for the hotel's restaurant). The resort was built in 1980 and is super clean and comfortable but it is not quite up to the 5 star finishes of more new constructed resorts (e.g. bathrooms with saltillo tile rather than granite, standard shower heards vs "rain" showerheads). I would give it 5 stars, but for the price, some travelers might have higher expectations for room furnishings/finish out.

Hands down, best hotel near San Pedro. Small, boutique type hotel with fantastic service - grounds and beach were very well maintained and pool and pool area were always super clean, each morning the grounds crew would clean the pool, arrange chairs, etc. Food was fantastic and great selection of 'beachy' type drinks. So nice to stay at a hotel where you don't feel over crowded where you can't get a seat at the pool and/or beach. You never needed to worry about finding a lounge chair- it's not the type of hotel where people put towels out to hold chairs which makes a much more relaxing environment. Ask the hotel front desk to make dinner reservations in town- they will take care of all of that for you. Not the best for swimming in the ocean - but take some excursions and than you can swim in the turquoise waters. Hotel has a free shuttle to San Pedro every few hours , you can also walk along the beach but once the sun is out, it's a hot 1.5 mile walk. Overall, think this is by far the best hotel on Amergris Caye.

Room Tip: We stayed in casita #1 - was first worried it was too close to the restaurant but noise was no probl...

After five nights in the rainforest where we hiked for 6-8 hours a day we were ready for some relaxation - there is no more perfect place than Victoria House - it is luxury without pretension - not a huge resort just beautiful beach, beautiful rooms, peace, enchantment and the most wonderful staff (all but front desk who were a bit withdrawn). We love fried jacks - a Belizean breakfast delight but the restaurant really serves a more continental crowd so doesn't have fried jacks on the menu - when the waiter heard how disappointed we were, he talked to the pastry chef and she made dough especially for us and we had fried jacks every morning - yum

We stayed here Feb. 9 to 15 in a plantation room in a seperate building upstairs. The room was very comfortable and serviced 2 times a days, towels replaced if they were on the floor. If you are staying in a plantation room, I recommend asking for the ones that are not over the restaurant.
The service was excellent. We never had a problem finding chairs in the shade, either on the beach or at either pool. When we arrived my husband told them that he wanted to start diving the next morning, the activities center was already closed and they immediately called the affiliated scuba shop and arranged to have him picked up next morning by the water taxi.
I took a bike out one day and rode further south. Took the shuttle into town a couple of mornings. We rented a golf cart on our last day and took it over the bridge to North part of island.

The food in the restaurant at the resort was amazing. We had dinner there 2 times and several lunches. Their cerviche 3 ways and seafood 3 ways were the great and the fish tacos I had for lunch were the best fish tacos I have ever had (and we live in LA so I have had many). We did eat lunch in town a couple of days. Loved Elvi in town and had lion fish at Prirates Treasure north of the bridge. Had some dinners out at Hidden Treasure and Casa Picasso which do pick up & drop off at the hotel. Also took cabs to El Fagon & Wild Mango. Liked Hidden Treasure best, then Casa Picasso. Wild Mango in town was good and the night we went to El Fagon the service was horrendeous (see the review)

I have 2 minor criticisms. Our room faced east (as do almost all the rooms) and the door to the patio only had sheer curtains on it , the sunlight at sunrise made the room extremely bright, would have liked some blackout curtains. Also I wish they had something at night after dinner to "entertain" us, maybe a singer or guitar player in the bar. We went into the bar for after dinner drinks (as there is not TV in the rooms which actually is great) and only on the first night they had the TV on with a few people watching the Olympics. Most of the other nights, we were the only people there even at 9 PM.
All in all tho, it is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Very relaxing if you want and plenty to do if you want!

Victoria House is a lil slice of heaven. The grounds are immaculately maintained. The rooms are extremely well kept and very very comfortable. Cant say enough about how accommodating and nice the staff are. The food is incredible. The whole property exudes comfort and peace. Cant get enough of it. Of course if you are diving, the on-site dive operator is really great. Made it easy! And as a solo traveler I felt very welcome and safe! I will return.

Room Tip: I stayed in the plantation room which I really enjoyed. The casitas looked very nice as well and ot...
