“Perfect is spelled Matachica!”
Reviewed 21 March 2012

We were searching for a place to unwind and connect with each other. Matachica fit the bill perfectly. After travelling most of the day it was nice to have a polite, punctual pick up at the airport. They called ahead and had our drinks waiting for us when we arrived. We were introduced to the staff and taken to our Deluxe Beachfront Casita. Our Casita "Pineapple" was beautiful. Perfectly clean. Just the right size for two and right on the beach. There are other units scattered throughout the property but we would recommend the beachfront because the cool air from the ocean really makes a difference. The units in the back seemed blocked off from the wind and the ocean. A bit more expensive, but well worth the extra $$. The food was good but not great. A decent selection for a short stay but might be a little short if you are staying for more than 5-6 days. The stuffed grouper was awesome but I had to wait until our last night to get it as they were always out. The staff is great! Polite. Seem to really want you to be happy. We took a snorkel tour to Holchan and Shark-ray Alley. Highly recommend! Great snorkeling! Charlie was our guide that day. He makes it really fun with his knowledge of the area and his fun personality. Ask for Charlie, you wont regret it! We also had massages after a couple days in the sun. The aloe gel they use feels great on the sunburns. The next time we need to unplug and get away we will be back to this little resort!

This is a delightful resort with beautiful grounds, quiet, clean cabanas, and a wonderful staff. The beach is clean and the water was warm for snorkeling and swimming. They serve one of the more balanced continental breakfasts we have seen in traveling. The food is so-so but with a good selection. The biggest draw back was its proximity to town--5 miles north--with no road to speak of so we didn't get a chance to go to other restaurants in town except for lunch one day because we biked it. It is a delightful resort in a wonderful country and we are so pleased we tried it. We would recommend it if you want a quiet, peaceful vacation and you are not looking for tons to do at night.

Room Tip: It is best to take a cabana on the beach next to the water. The ones behind in the back must be ver...

Matachica is a caribbean paradise! After reading reviews about the resort being far from the town of San Pedro my husband and I were a little hesitant of our stay and the inconvenience it may bring. However, we could not be more pleased with our decision to stay at Matachica. After spending a day or so in the town, being able to retreat back to our quiet and secluded resort was the perfect end to our caribbean days. The resort offers a water taxi that leaves about every hour into town and the ride is only 15 minutes.

Matachica is the PERFECT place for honeymooners or couples looking for a romantic getaway. The only reason (that I can figure) this resort is not listed as #1 is because it is not children/family friendly. This resort is definitely geared toward adults/couples. Being greeted with your drink of choice upon arrival definitely helps set the mood. I highly recommend reserving one of the beach front casitas. Waking up to the sunrise and clear blue waters feet away from your door is absolutely priceless!

The staff at Matachica was also good. They are not too overbearing or over the top, but definitely there if you need them. I highly recommend eating at Mambo, the resorts restaurant. Several people staying all throughout the island of San Pedro flock to Matachica in the evening to visit the restaurant as it is one of the best in all of Belize. A little pricier than some of the restaurants in town, but well worth it!

While the resort conveniently offers to setup several adventures onsite - it is definitely worth checking out the excursions in town through the local agencies. My husband and I saved a decent amount of money taking the courtesy water taxi into town and booking excursions outside of Matachica.

Room Tip: beach front casita!

This place is so beautiful. Rooms are so nice and the property is just so great. Lovely pool with hottub! The service was only okay. I would say Property A+ but Service B-. Still worth going though for sure - I really loved this place but just dont expect 5 star service. The tours through the hotel had too many people for my taste - I really recommend doing private tours. Spa was excellent and really reasonable! The resort had no kids which was also nice...

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in Belize where we finished off with 4 nights at Mata Chica. A really lovely boutique hotel that is classy and chic without being ostentatious or pretentious.
The staff are great, very helpful and friendly, the casitas (rooms where you stay) are lovely, VERY comfortable beds, great pool and only a boat ride away from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro should you want it. The on site restaurant is OK, bit pricey, but then most places are on Ambergris, but the food is very nice. Thouroughly recommend a stay here!

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely and to be honest you dont really need to pay the extra a sea view, those laid b...

We loved our stay here! We stayed in the reef view suites- with just 100 feet between us and the ocean, it really was delightful. Incredibly romantic- and everyone was so helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant and two lunches, all very tasty. We mostly lounged by the pool, it was warm and sunny, but both the ocean and the pool was a bit chilly for me, but the jacuzzi was awesome!

Room Tip: We stayed one back from the beachfront, and it was divine! A little more private...

Matachica is memorable in so many ways. Upon arrival the friendly staff had a cocktail ready and waiting, great way to start the holiday.
Our beach bungalow was about 100 feet from the beach and perfect and clean in everyway and plenty of space with a hammock right out the front. The bed was comfortable and I slept so well listening to the oceanbreeze float through the shutters. The staff were amazing, helpful and approachable, the food was fresh & delicious everyday, not one bad meal and the presentation was outstanding. The fresh tortillas at breakfast were my fravorite! There were plenty of activities availalbe for those that wanted be more active, kayaking, snorkeling, or like me hang by the beach or the pool to read and relax.
I would recommend taking some bug spray, we went during February and there were some of those pesty mozzy's around.
Matachica has daily complimentary boat rides to San Pedro so that makes for more fun to go out try the local cuisine, as for us, we enjoyed relaxing by the beach/pier/and pool. The beach water was crystal clear and you can see the sea life swimming around right off the pier. The beach front was cleaned daily by the staff. If you really want to get away and feel like you are the only ones at the resort, this is the place, there were no kids, no crowds or having to wait in line for anything not even meals. We always found a shady spot if the sun was too much, no having to fight for a beach front seat. My husband didn't wear shoes or flipflops for the entire trip, very laid back. The setting is romantic and one of the best I have ever been too. Memorable in every way! Thank you all at Matachica!

Room Tip: Take some bug spray. The Bungalows have airconditioning and fans, nice to have a choice. Take sunta...
