“Poor upkeep mars a great location”

This resort is located in a beautiful area but it just isn't kept up. The long stretch of beach from the right to the left is is lovely with only this resort's patch of beach not cleaned daily or weekly for that matter of seaweed. This leaves a smaller area of beach to enjoy.
All of the outdoor furniture and restaurant furniture is old and cheap. Again every other resort in the area as you walk up and down the beach has better furniture. There are hammocks which are very nice but that should not be the only comfortable place to rest.
The pool is kept clean but there is a broken ladder without any foot rests so it's unusable.
So sad as the view is fantastic. The staff is very very laid back but if one of them would just be responsible to clean the beach it would be great. Raking around the pool area is not enough as the beach itself needs to be cleaned. Again this is not asking too much as the whole rest of the area up and down the coast is cleaned daily.
I enjoyed the room and it was kept clean and tidy for our stay for this budget style resort.
It seemed that the staff really enjoys the place as they all seem to live there and hang out there at the bar and pool area. One day into the night a group of their kids played in the pool. Nice for them but very loud for guests to enjoy a quiet day. If they were guests I would feel a bit differently but that they were family of the staff which is just a poor thing to do for paying guests. I had asked to move my room away from the pool but now I know why I wasn't as the rooms farther away (and more prime location for privacy) are occupied by the staff.
The drinks were ok nothing special and the food again was ok nothing special and very expensive for what you were served. If you walk down the beach just a bit you can eat and drink for just about the same price at Rojo Beach Bar and enjoy a great pool, fabulous furniture, great cocktails and fantastic food. They keep their beach area clean and it's just a fantastic place to go. Just buying a drink allows you access to relaxing there and enjoying their infinity pool.
Please visit this area but I don't recommend staying at this resort. You can find better though you will have to pay but in the end you have traveled so far and to cheap out for this it's just not worth it.

We started our vacation by arriving 2.5 hours late due to flight delays, but Tropic Air staff were great and got us a taxi that managed to connect us with the resort owner himself (we didn't know it at the time) who walked us the rest if the way to the water taxi. When we arrived at the resort, John (one of the managers) was there to greet us with a wheelbarrow to cart our luggage to the room. We were just happy to finally be there, but Raymond (the bartender) had saved us dinner from the BBQ they had that night and served us up some welcome drinks. Everyone on staff was very friendly and helpful, the restaurant food was excellent, excursions were booked at no extra cost, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. If you want to be waited on hand and foot, this is not the place for you, but if you like a quiet place where you can relax, make friends at the bar and do your own thing, and you are easygoing and adaptable, this is a great little place for you.

Well where do we start?! I should say that this was supposed to be a romantic, honeymoon vacation that started on Valentines Day.

Let me first say that the property is a 15 minute water taxi ride away from town! No other way to get to town except pay the $8 US per person, each way! Oh yeah and they only run every two hours! Oooooops, they forgot to mention that to us. Let me tell you about the property, the pictures on the website, are NOT what you will be experiencing when you arrive. We booked an ocean front, down stairs suite, and when the sliding glass door was opened and we were led into the room, this is what we saw;

A very large room with an awesome view of the ocean, two twin beds pushed together (to make a king bed, like promised in the reservation), one sheet with no comforter (the sheet was stained with what looked like blood), one very small night stand and one lamp. Yes, that was it. ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING ELSE! go ahead, think of everything that is typically in even a plain, cheapo hotel room. Ya, none of that. Not even a picture on the wall. This is supposed to be a "4 Star Resort!" Which they say they are, but are not even close. To top it off, we got into the shower to cool off, when we went to grab a towel, the biggest one was a hand towel.

Now onto the dining. We were supposed to be "All inclusive." Well, that turned out to be pretty interesting. The first night we went up to their restaurant, only to notice that there was only one table in the middle of a very large room. To top it off, it was a picnic table. Yes, you heard that correctly. We approached a bar like area that had nowhere to sit and looked at a menu. The waiter said the special of the night was lobster. I ordered a chicken skewer appetizer (2 small skewers), the lobster special and my wife ordered jerk pork chops. The waiter stated the lobster special came with key lime pie and asked if we would like it after we ate. I said, "Sure." We walked downstairs to sit at one of the four tables down by the pool and pool tiki bar (the only dining tables minus the picnic table previously mentioned).

The food came, we ate (it was all absolutely delicious) and went to bed. The next morning we were advised by the waiter that none of the appetizers, lobster plates nor any desserts were included in the all inclusive meals and that he was instructed by the manager (Tula) to add the charges to our room. Well, the lobster special was only $4 more than the allowed jerk pork chops and I didn't understand why the entire cost of the lobster special was added to our room and not just the $4 difference. However, I never was able to receive an answer on that.

The kitchen manager is Tula's son, who was not the friendliest person on the world. You would talk to him and would just look at you and turn and walk away without answering you. There were a couple other employees who would just stare you down as you walked by them. Almost like they are trying to intimidate you for some unknown reason.

My wife and I started figuring out the "All Inclusive" deal that Tula had put together for us and figured out that we were supposed to get 3 meals a day each day, yet with our scuba diving schedule (that Tula was aware of) would prevent us from being on the property for breakfast and lunch. This is due to serving hours of the restaurant. This was the final straw. We just went ahead and booked another room at another resort.

Now for the kicker! We stayed two nights, ate 2 meals and Ambergris charged my credit card $1200!!!!! (which was supposedly only for incidentals). This was not the card used to book the room, JUST THE CARD FOR INCIDENTALS!!! Which I never signed for any billing to be done on this card. One more thing I will now have to take the time to resolve and dispute.

I know this was a long story but my best advice is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!

Room Tip: Best tip Is to not chose a room at all.

We stayed there for 6 days over New Years Eve with our 3 year old daugther. Despite the fact that I asked about the quality of the beach,
It was never cleaned. When I pointed it to the manager, she said they would and they did- 2 meters of it. And never did it again. So we spent our dream beach vacation on a beach full of seaweed and stinking trash: (piles of it as it is the way it is in Ambergris unless you just clean it). The area around the pool is run down: old furniture, old beach chairs, no umbrellas. The food in the restaurant is bad and overpriced. Luckily we did not prepay it so we shopped in town and ate in the room. We had dinners at Mambos at Matachica resort where they actualy clean the beach. And the first day we arrived after the whole day of travel with a small kid, they said the restaurant was closed and sent us to another restaurant approx 1 km walk ob the beach 1 meter wide full if trash in total darkness. Did not even thought about maybe giving us a ride there. Anyway, it just is a resort only for divers who spend time in the water (is is actually more convenient to be in town to do diving and snorkeling. My husband spent an hour waiting for a boat in town to take him back to the resort).
Rooms are clean and decent but pull out sofas are old and dirty and I did not dare to put my baby in it.
There are misquitos in the room despite having nets. My husband was badly bitten.
We left two days early. No discussion about even a partial refund. Total resistance to comment and critique on the part of management, namely Tulya.
The resort is not worth its price. It is a budget option.
Our holiday there was a total dissappointment.

Well-groomed property, rustic. Quiet and relaxing. Beautiful area. Really more of a camp than a resort. Our party consisted of 2 adults, 3 teenagers, and 1 infant. Large party, 2 week stay - we were a good source of revenue for the resort, but gestures of good will and customer service by management were somewhat lacking considering the amount of money we spent there. Little gestures of good will would have repaid the resort in spades had management taken advantage of the opportunity. Instead we have gone away - not hating the place, but not prepared to recommend it to others in the dive community in the future.

No accommodation for children. Stayed 2 weeks on an "all inclusive package". Ate all meals either with a 13 month old baby in our arms or we had to separate and eat in shifts because they do not provide high chairs in the restaurant. Sometimes we used our umbrella stroller but it was awkward to get this up to the second floor restaurant. No high chair for dining, no crib for sleeping. Seems that it would be such a cheap good-will grabber to provide such basics for families accompanying divers. These are not expensive items nor do they take up a lot of space to have a couple of each available at the resort.

Cleaning staff great, Joe the maintenance guy fabulous - took 2 of the teenagers under his wing and made their stay very enjoyable and was very helpful to all of us. For the most part all staff were very friendly.

Claims to be "all inclusive" are deceptive to say the least and over priced. Restaurant closed one day a week as well - so despite thinking you have already paid for meals you are on your own for that day. Website claims to provide welcome drink, etc. on arrival at resort - never happened. Food is good but menu is very restricted and some items not available as "all inclusive". If you switched a continental breakfast for one from the menu, most choices were charged at full price instead of taking the difference between the cost of a continental and the menu item. Two non-alcoholic drink maximum per meal and they "ran out" of soft drinks on day 3 of our 14 day visit and did not provide them again until the last couple of days. We viewed this as a cost saving measure on the resort's part. These soft drinks were still available at the bar; however, there was a charge for them there. Thank goodness for the store behind the resort. That left choices for meals to coffee, powdered juice, and water - until they started running low on juice. Supper was advertised to us as 2 courses, but typically if you ordered a second course, ie. dessert, you paid extra. We arrived on a Wednesday at around 7:30 p.m. after travelling some 15 hours. Since we had paid for an "all inclusive", we expected to be able to get something to eat - but kitchen closes on Wednesdays and there was only a couple of pieces of fish left from a barbecue that had taken place that night. It was suggested we walk 15 minutes down the beach to a resort that sells pizza. They did then agree to go get the pizza for us. US$102.00 later, we were fed. Not a good start to our "all inclusive".

Diving experiences very good and dive staff were great, but no refunds for prepaid dives even when they did not take place due to weather conditions or resort owner family issues. Prepaid for 18 two-tank dives and actually got in 10 two tank dives. No gestures of good will offered at this resort from a financial perspective at least. $250.00 extra spent on food at the restaurant that should have been part of the "all inclusive" package. Again, small gestures by the management would have gone a long way to us parting as more satisfied customers ready to recommend this resort to others.

Dive boats good to provide free rides to town for non-diving members of the traveling party - saves on water taxis.

Pull out beds very uncomfortable, but we were provided a better bed when we asked. We were very impressed with this gesture of customer service. More gestures like this would have lead us to recommend this place.

Were without hot water for showers for 3 of the 14 days.

The bar was good. Teenagers loved the hammocks.

This resort is ok, but could be so much more with a little more savvy on the part of management. If they paid as much attention to customer satisfaction as to keeping the resort clean and well groomed, it would be perfect. Prepaying was probably our biggest mistake. The experience was ok, but not what we would have expected for how much this trip cost us. Didn't hate it. Had some good times, but it could have been so much more with a few more goodwill gestures on the part of the resort management.

Day we left, resort was supposed to pay the taxi from the water taxi to the plane, but driver said they had left without paying him. Thank goodness we had a little cash left over to pay for the unexpected taxi bill.

Loved our visit to Ambergris Caye, loved our golf cart visits to San Pedro. Side trips to Belize City, etc. were great. The resort was ok, but disappointing based on how much we paid.

Room Tip: We had 5 individuals and an infant in one 2 room suite, but I would say that even their largest sui...

I Loved my stay It was small with beautiful views! Perfect location. Close enough to ride a bike (about 5 miles great way to burn calories food the great food) or take a ferry, but far enough for privacy. The staff was so friendly and so passionate about making sure you are well taken care of and have the best vacation ever! Surprised me with spelling out Happy Birthday in flower petals on my bed. Treats you like family. The rooms are nice. They don't have TV's in the room, but who would want to watch TV in paradise? There is a TV at bar. The Wi-Fi worked good. We talked and saw our kids by using Sykpe. Had collection of books to borrow if forgot one. Food was good and can be delivered to room. I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: all had great views. The secod level amazing view. All had hammocks

The accommodations were not what we expected and more rustic than we wanted for our honeymoon: toilet not working, water not running, bar not open. etc.. We left a day early (after pre paying) and they didn't even ask why or see how they could make it better. The bar is fun, but was only open one night when we were there. We were very disappointed with our stay and will not return.
