We enjoyed staying here--right on the water, friendly people, nice decks on all 3 floors. Beds were good, ventilation was good (we stayed on 3rd floor in #10, corner room) and the price was right--$40/night. Is in center of town but ear plugs made it all work. And Ruby's Cafe is downstairs!

Room Tip: The 3rd floor had a good breeze, you had no one above you and a corner room (#10) gave you 2 windows...

Rubys is definitely for the budget traveler. The great thing is that not only is it reasonable, it's clean, the water is hot and the beds are fine. The people are friendly, helpful and honest. They also have a small cafe down on the street that serves light breakfast, good coffee and a great fruit bowl. The prices are very good and so is the food. Many times I would eat breakfast and lunch there. It is far enough away from the noisy bars that for the most part it is quiet.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have an outside window so make sure you see the room before you book it.

Ruby's was perfect for our first visit to San Pedro. $40 got us room #14 on the 3rd floor overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A clean corner unit with windows on two walls, 2 Q beds, private bath, WiFi, PERIOD. No frills: no A/C, no fridge, no room service, no elevator, no pool, no fitness room, no business center, no spa, etc. "no shirts, no shoes, no problem"

Outside the room was a huge rooftop patio with furniture overlooking sand, palm trees, and ocean. Each landing had a deck with oceanfront view. This property is not for everyone! We are low maintenance and don't require pampering. It was clean and friendly. We looked at other properties after the first night to compare and were happy to stay at Ruby's all three nights on the island.

We did not experience loud music or other unusual unpleasantries. It is a touristy town, the property is smack dab in the center of the shops, restaurants, bars, water sports, and across the street from a school. If you need peace and quiet, I would recommend Caye Caulker. Ruby's had a strip of beach right on the ocean under the palms for sunning or reading in the shade.

Mango's Restaurant next door was very good. Seafood pupusas on the middle street were my favorite. The fresh fruit smoothie at Melt was the best! We rented a golf cart and toured the town and VERY BUMPY roads to the north and south of town. Really, there is no need to suffer the BUMPY ride, everything is centrally located in San Pedro.

We arrived by water taxi (not a romantic boat ride) and left by plane. Lots of water activities and spas within walking distance.

Room Tip: I would choose corner room #14 on floor 3 because of two windows on two walls. I would choose a roo...

I'm generally not a picky person when it comes to hotels, Just give me a safe place to sleep and i'm happy. But Ruby's failed at deliver even the basics

Sleep: It's impossible, there was loud music blasting until it was almost morning. Walls are thin and you can hear EVERYTHING. the guys drinking next room sound like they're just inches away... and that was just the least of the problems...

Dirty: I was bitten by a cockroach, the bathroom smells disgusting.

Security: After I left I discovered that my laptop was missing from my backpack. The Backpack never left the room during my stay...

If you are looking for a place to stay in San Pedro - consider Ruby's. Its not a 5 star resort. You won't find satellite TV, mini bars, in room safes or fancy buffets. But, if you want a clean room with a comfortable bed , friendly staff and great service then this is a good choice. We spent 9 nights at Ruby's and we were very happy with our accommodation. If you have a room facing the street you will have to deal with noise but the "beach side" is fine. There's character here that you don't find at the fancy up scale resorts - coffee and breakfast on the patio with some of the locals will help you appreciate the history of the island and the stories are to be treasured. The ladies in the little coffee shop are most accommodating as are the staff in the beach office. Sometimes the best vacations aren't found at an all inclusive resort , they're found in spending time in simple comfortable surroundings with friendly , honest people - Ruby's in San Pedro. Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back facing the ocean are quieter.

We stayed here on our way to a resort. Frankly, I would have rather stayed here for the week instead of the resort. This place is no frills. It is simply a clean bed and bathroom that has a beautiful beach on one side and cute streets to stroll around on the other. If you are the type of traveler that freaks out about amenities in a room this isn't for you. For us it was cheap and awesome:) I would happily go back.

We were on the 3rd floor in an air-conditioned, queen bed room so we were not awakened by the patio or cafe noise. However, there was a bar you could hear loud and clear until pretty late. The bed was rock hard. This is NOT a luxury place. In fact, we went and bought a bottle of bleach and cleaned our bathroom at the beginning of a five night stay.

With that said, it was only $55/night and so much cheaper than the next step up, which is NOT that much better. With San Pedro, you need to drop $300+ a night or it really isn't worth it to pay $150 for something barely better than Ruby's. It provided us with a homebase where we slept and felt that our belongings were safe. It has free wifi, a cheap cafe below, and is in a phenomenal location.

The only thing keeping them from a 5/5 star rating was that they said if we stayed 5 nights then we could stay for $50 a night (rather than $55/night). We paid for the first 4 nights and expected to only pay $30 on the last night for a total of $250, but then they claimed they made no such deal with us. It wasn't worth it to pack up all our things for just that last night, so we paid the full $275, but that was definitely shady on their part.

Room Tip: Try to work a discount with the more nights you stay, the cheaper it gets. I would pay with a credi...
