“A Diamond in the Rough”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

We drove our golf cart to the Marco Gonzalez Site and spent about 2 hours discovering the site. You will definitely need mosquito repellent. It was amazing to see something so untouched and still pretty much undiscovered. This is not a typical tourist spot that is all layed out for you. The area is pretty much flat and there are boards that are laid on the water to form a path. But an adventure it was!

“Stepping back in time”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

Imagine walking through an historical site and actually picking up pot shards! That's what happened to us here. This site is fascinating and will get better the more it is excavated. We actually found pot shards and chert chips that we gathered and placed an the many platforms meant just for this.

You need a golf cart or for the really tough people bicycles (hot work on a hot day) to get to this site near the southern tip of the Caye. The boardwalk is made from driftwood and pallets but does the trick to keep you out of the wet. Watch for bird life and tree snakes, along with a crocodile on your trek thru the marshy area out to the site.

If you have even the slightest interest in history be sure to include this excursion on your to do list.

“Lovely site”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

This is a lovely site, small and unrestored, yet beautiful and surrounded by nature. The staff does a great job of maintaining and preserving it. It is a credit to the people of the island that they have preserved this area from development.

“Eye opening tour”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

Liked - tour guide very knowledgeable & Lunch was amazing (Prepared by his wife). Price was only $40 American dollars. The jungle tour was eye opening, the villagers still use string & wire to fish ...
No dislikes!

“BE PREPARED!”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

This place is probably pretty cool to spend some time looking around in, but my wife and I couldn't spend more than about 3 minutes there as we were getting eaten alive by mosquitos. The ruins aren't like some of the other sites in Belize with large pryamids so you'll really have to want to see it.

Wear long sleeves/pants and bring lots of bug spray.

Or just skip it... and do a trip to the mainland.
