“our little oasis”
Reviewed 19 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We just returned from Belize after spending our honeymoon at the casita. I am so happy we ended up choosing this as our getaway for the trip. Karen is the best! Her care and passion for her property, her guests and the island go above and beyond. The casita is close enough, yet secluded enough to give you a true sense of "living like a local". We were the first guests to stay after hurricane Earl, and it was like she hadn't missed a beat! Let the pictures entice you, but let my review and all the rest here convince you-GO! BOOK IT! You won't be disappointed!

“Wonderful casita!”
Reviewed 13 May 2016 for a stay in June 2015

My flowercasita is very nice place to spend your hollyday... The house is confortable and beatiful and the honour Karen is a very kind and lovely person. Is just little far from the center of San Pedro, but you can rent a bike from Karen and reach the town in 10 minuts cycling. The garden around casita is a kind of paradise, very relaxing place. And you can use the facilities of the closer resort. The beach is just about 5 minuts walk.

“Great Vacation at the Casitia”

We highly recommend the Casita for a wonderful San Pedro Belize vacation. Karen is a great hostess- shares local information, answers questions, keeps the house and grounds clean and comfortable. What we liked: breakfast coffee outside in the adirondack chairs, evenings relaxing in the lounge chairs, very convenient location. Within a five minute walk, we enjoyed Belizean food at 2 local restaurants, more "formal" meals at Banana Beach Resort, beach, 2 pools, and the best Happy Hour on the island. Within 10 minutes, we walked to 3 grocery stores, the Tortilla Shop, fruit/vegetable market stand, and more restaurants. The "downtown" area of San Pedro is a easy 30 minute walk along the ocean- although we only went into town twice. We took 2 wonderful snorkeling trips. One included a boat ride to Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve (amazing!), the second included a sailboat ride to Caulker Caye.

“You'll love it!”

You will be so happy to start your day eating breakfast outside as birds sing in the canopy overhead. And after a day of sightseeing, snorkelling or lounging by the nearby pool, you will be refreshed as you return to your little casita set in the beautiful and well maintained yard rich with shady foliage. Cool breezes coming through the screened windows will keep up your energy. The air conditioner will ensure you a good night's sleep as will the very comfortable bed. We found the location to be excellent - easy walking distance to a fruit/vegetable stand, a very good meat shop, two grocery stores, two places to get fresh tortillas, and of course The Baker. There are places to eat nearby too. Across the road is the Banana Beach Hotel where you can use the pools and beach area. The staff is very good and the women at the Monkey Business travel hut are exceptional. They will arrange tours for you and we found them to be very helpful in all respects. Taxis are readily available on the street by the hotel but we often walked up town as well.

“Wonderful Experience”

Karen's casita is beautiful - we LOVED staying here for 1 week. The yard is very nice and well-maintained as well.
The casita is a little far out from the center of town, but for us it was a nice walk. You are also able to rent bikes or a golf cart if walking isn't your thing. Karen also picked us up from the boat in a golf cart, so we didn't have to carry our suitcases all the way to the casita.
The casita also gives you access to the amenities at the nearby resort: swimming pools, massages, etc.

Thank you for a wonderful San Pedro experience!

“WONDERFUL, peaceful, private casita!”
Reviewed 27 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We just got back from a 2 week stay at the Mayflower Casita, and I'm already having withdrawals! I fell in love with the place! If you want to go to Ambergris Caye, THIS IS THE PlACE TO STAY!!!

It's EXTREMELY affordable, you immediately feel at home there, and it's perfect for a couple, who are looking for a wonderful, private, peaceful place to stay.

The laid back atmosphere, the kind people that live around the island, and the owner, Karen, who is one of the most fantastic people I've met, make all the experiences even better. We've been to Belize before and OH, how I wish we had stayed at the Mayflower!! Karen has gotten approval for whoever stays at the Casita to use the pools and beach at the hotel across the road, which is a very short walk - 2 fantastic pools and a beach set up, which we greatly enjoyed. The food at the hotel there is absolutely fantastic (try the Shrimp & Mozzarella sandwich for lunch - its phenomenal,,, and Robins Kitchen, when open, is beyond fabulous for lunch or dinner!!!) I felt so at home there, that when we got back to OUR actual home in the states, I found myself longing to be back at the Casita, which had turned into my home for the time we were there.

I can't give enough praise to Karen and the absolutely WONDERFUL atmosphere of just being there. Give the hammock a try... It's really relaxing!

If you scuba dive, I'd recommend Ambergris Divers, who are the best & most affordable on the island (They're located at the water taxi dock - the diving is extraordinary, and you should most DEFINITELY do a night dive at Hol Chan Marine Reserve. It blew my mind, and I'm an avid diver!). I'm can't wait to go back, and already planning our next trip to the the Casita, as it feels like a home away from home. I would live there in a MOMENT, and having Karen living next door is wonderful! Go with an open mind and a laid back mentality, and you'll have a FABULOUS time, If I had to sum it up, I'd have to say I LOVE THIS PLACE, and I want to go back as soon as possible. My husband is in total agreement as well! If you're going to Ambergris Caye, and want the best value for your money, the Mayflower Casita is the way to go.

Liked best: The quiet location, away from people & noise.
Liked least: Not a thing... maybe the mosquitos? But some Deep Woods Off fixed that!

“Nice little cottage”
Reviewed 3 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We spent 8 nights here in late October. Karen picked us up from the airport and dropped us back off at the end of the week. She also stopped at the grocery store so we could get a few groceries on our first night. The grounds are well kept. I saw Karen raking most days. The casita is clean but if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. It's more like a cabin in northern Wisconsin. (Not that there's anything wrong with a cabin in northern Wisconsin). Its a little dark and my girlfriend wished there were a few more places to hang wet things. There is no stove, rather there is a two burner hot plate. The sauce pan was old Teflon that was scratched up, so we chose not to use it.
For the price you really can't go wrong. You get to use the pool at Banana Beach (about a block away). You will hear dogs barking from the neighbors in the back and the mosquitos were pretty bad, but neither of these things are Karen's fault.
I enjoyed reading on the little porch with my coffee in the morning (after applying mosquito spray).
A note about the mosquitos: They were bad everywhere, not just at the casita. Bars and restaurants have cans of mosquito repellant by the cash registers for the customers to use.
Would I stay here again? Yes, it's a less expensive alternative and I liked being away from the hotels and noise of downtown.
