“Great value for Your Dollar”

Beautiful, well-maintained property with a professional, courteous staff. A nice restaurant with good food is on-site and plenty of recreational activities are available. The ocean is 50 yards from your suite. Minor complaints include low water pressure in showers and a strong smell to the tap water. The resort solves the latter problem with an on-property purified well for drinking water. One big warning- if you are thinking about taking the San Pedro Express water taxi from Belize City, think twice. It is just what it says, a giant taxi. It is a 1.5 hour voyage in a large boat packed to the gills with tourists and locals. Hot, crowded and LONG. It is more expensive, but check into a flight from the mainland airport to San Pedro. Also, if you do go by water taxi, be aware that once the San Pedro Express sells all the tickets for a scheduled run, there is no backup boat dispatched. They leave you stranded for up to 1.5 hours until the next boat leaves. Even though we arrived at the docks 15 minutes prior to departure, we almost missed getting on our boat and would have missed our flight back to the US- not a good feeling. We had to plead to get on the boat. Arrive at the docks 30 minutes or more prior to departure.

The staff was excellent. We visited several resorts there and found that this is the best resort on the Island for the price. Be aware that if you decide to rent a golf cart that the road is very bumpy. We rented a cart and explored almost the entire island. The pool bar was my favorite as I was always very entertained by the staff. Snorkeling and Diving are excellent via short boat trips.

I thought this hotel was very affordable compared to neighboring hotels. The rooms are VERY spacious, containing an extra bedroom and kitchen with dining room. The staff is so accommodating and friendly! Everyone speaks English. I can't say anything negative about this place, it was a wonderful experience. Sidenote: be ready to pay the bridge toll (closes at a certain hour for security purposes) when you get on the island. However, the hotel rents bikes (super cheap) to ride to town for groceries. Ride on the beach, it's faster and easier.

I can't say enough how friendly and accommodating the staff was - everyone from the main office to the restaurant staff to the pool bartenders was just perfect. The rooms were a little dated though unfortunately. They were not completely sealed off and bugs and geckos were inside, the DVD player didn't work and watching TV was a labor intensive task. Having a kitchen and patio was wonderful and the beds were comfortable.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have lofts that accommodate extra guests. The bathrooms smelled bad but the fully...

We just returned from a six-day vacation at Belizean Shores. It was exactly what we were looking for as we took our first real kids-free vacation since having kids eight years ago.

First, the positives: rooms clean and straightforward, well-stocked kitchen (tho we didn't cook), good Internet connectivity, comfortable bed, plenty of room. This is not a super-luxurious place -- it's lovely, but not over-the-top-decadent -- but it is very comfortable, very clean, spacious and very well-maintained. The pool is lovely, the swim-up bar is a great place to spend a few hours in the afternoon after diving, and the staff is incredibly helpful.

Second, the things to know: it's not in the center of San Pedro, so if you're looking for nightlife, this is not the place. It's a bit of a hike into town -- the golf cart path is bumpy or you can take a water taxi. A note about the golf cart path: everyone (including us) says, "what's a little bumpy? it will be fine!" not realizing that "a little bumpy" means bone-jarring, up-and-down, oh-no-did-we-just-bottom-out-the-cart bumpy. We thought it was fun (go slow!), but others did not. The water taxi is way faster but less flexible on schedule.

We did take advantage of the sister resorts - CocoBeach next door is particularly lovely, and it's great having another resort so close for a change of pace.

We also had a fabulous meal in the on-site restaurant -- one night they had a grilled lobster special, and it was quite good (and reasonably priced). Their regular menu is just fine for your typical poolside fare (the quesadillas are HUGE -- my husband and I would split one) and a welcome addition after a day in the water.

Like others, we found that the water trampoline didn't exist, but loved kayaking out for snorkeling right from the pier. It took just a few minutes (literally) to paddle out to the reef and do some world-class snorkeling. It's good immediately off the pier, too, but totally worth the paddle.

Finally: can't say enough good things about the customer service. Penny at the front desk was awesome. We had a slight problem with our A/C the first night, but the staff worked with us to fix it and ended up moving rooms where we were more comfortable (and then proactively changing the room charges as the room we moved to was less expensive....didn't even have to ask). They remembered our names, helped us arrange dinners and answered a million questions, and were generally pleasant, helpful and engaging. Really made the place feel less like a hotel and more like a true resort community.

We went as a couple, but there were lots of families there, and we thought it would be great for us to bring our kids. Would be equally nice for honeymooners or families.

Thanks, Belizean Shores!

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms seem to be a little harder to cool, but have the extra loft space for bigger parties...

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite with a loft space that included a sleeper sofa and another bed. The living area couch was a futon that folded down flat so we watched television together there using the two other chairs in clear view of the flat screen television. The kitchen was fully equipped. Although we never cooked a full meal in the space, every tool necessary to do so was right at hand, including the blender we used to make smoothies from local fruits. There is a life sized chess set that was right behind our room. Although we didn't play, we enjoyed watching others play with those gigantic pieces. The customer service was incredibly accommodating. After a busy day of touring on the mainland, we took the next day "off" and skipped housekeeping. The housekeeper left us fresh towels and then gave the room a very thorough cleaning while we were out during her next round. The front desk personnel arranged a golf cart rental that we rode into town to avoid very choppy waters. We enjoyed the water taxi into the center city when the water was less choppy. We would definitely return to Belize and Belizean Shores, or its sister property.

Room Tip: If you have a family traveling together, request a room with a loft because it gives parents traveli...
