All the positive reviews below are right on point. This was our third trip to Ambergris/Caulker in the last three years and this resort is, by far, the best one we've stayed at.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned much in the previous posts is how easy it is to run your dives from here. The owners have a dive master that shows up in the mornings and will take you out on a two-tank dive on a moment's notice - even to the super popular places like Hoi Chan, etc... There was never anyone but my girlfriend, the dive master, the boat captain and I on the boat which made for a relaxing, enjoyable set of dives that week.
Spent a week in one of the one-bedroom cabanas and it was all we needed. Grounds were well maintained, pool was warm/clean, staff was friendly, spa service was great, etc...
Great place for tuning out the world and decompressing.
Only (very minor) critques: the wireless internet access was very slow; the thatch roof cabana sprung a leak when a monsoon hit (leak was quickly repaired); and there aren't a lot of food options at the resort (but it's only a 10 minute walk to good, if overpriced, restaurants).
Speaking of restaurants, the one about 10 minutes south of the resort (Mata Chica, I think) has the best ceviche I've ever had. We bribed the waiter for the recipe.More
