My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay on San Pedro Island, in large part due to the friendly staff at the Country Cabana (and the amazing food cart two streets up)! The price is great & the view superb.

This hotel was formerly known as Tio Pil’s and is now knows as Country Cabana. We stayed here in mid-February, 2014

Pros - staff are very nice, location is great as it is in center of town and right on the beach (keep in mind the beaches in Ambergis Caye are not to lay out on though from what I could see during my visit.)

We did not encounter any noise problems, and there is a balcony with a hammock which is looking out over the beach, docks, and restaurants. Easy walking distance to all that the main town offers as it is pretty much near the center of it all. The hotel is located right next to the pier for one of the water taxi companies – I’d suggest you find out from the staff which company as when you leave from Belize City water terminal or from Caye Caulker, you’d want to have your cab drop you off at the correct water taxi company.

Negatives – the rooms were very old and run down, desperately needs update due to old cracked flooring, rusted out fridge (exterior portion, not interior), and old TV. I would suggest using the back entrance along the beach as the building’s side entry along the alley is not a pretty site.

To be fair, the rooms and sheets are absolutely clean and no bugs, just kind of dilapidated looking.

On the second and third days of our visit, there was no water for sink, shower or toilet. In all fairness, this was due to a town water line break which affected other buildings on either side of the hotel as well, so it is certainly not the hotels fault. In fact, they worked very hard to get the situation resolved, and did leave jugs of fresh water outside each of our rooms.

Ultimately, if you are looking for a clean bed at a budget price right on the water in the center of town, with very friendly staff, then this is your place. If however you are looking for that resort, pool, and spa experience, do not stay here, though you will be paying a lot more money for a resort experience elsewhere.

This is difficult for me to write as I did like the people and I feel terrible giving it this review, but it is what it is and for our purposes, the four of five stars that I had seen by previous reviews is truly uncalled for, and if I had read a review like mine I would have picked a more upscale hotel for this particular visit (and paid the extra price tag that goes along with that.) With that said, should I go back to Ambergis Caye and was staying on a budget, I would definitely stay here as I’d know what to expect.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms on the deck next to the hammock for a few bucks more.

The Country Cabana was a fantastic place to stay in San Pedro if you really want to get a sense of this wonderful island town. It's right in the middle of everything and it makes walking around town to explore very enjoyable. And as a bonus, it's right on the beach and also right in the middle of everything happening on the water! It really doesn't get much better than this.

hotel. Can't get a better price for your room that is on the beach and down town too. Right across from the Diving Charters , and water taxis to other islands and to Belize city.
if you going to San Pedro, its worth staying here... cheers to JR, DC and Szana

Room Tip: all rooms have ac,, clean ,, and quiet hotel ,,, even i was quit right DC

We (couple, 40 & 50 years old) stayed at Tio Pil’s Hotel for one night in November 2013. We paid about $54 a night. Our room on the backside was average size but very old and worn. The floor was very uneven and covered with overlapping cheap linoleum. There was only one window looking out to an alley. The bathroom was also worn and the towels had holes in them. There is a large common veranda overlooking the beach. The rooms on the front of the hotel were more expensive but occupied. I would not recommend Tio Pil’s Hotel and would pay more for a nice hotel next time.

Stumbled upon this place while walking the beach. What a find! The food was great and down home southern (US) cooking style. The owner sat with us and was very friendly and made the experience memorable. We did not stay at the hotel this trip, but plan to return to Belize soon and also rent a room from DC.
