Casa Blanca Mata Grande
Reviewed 30 April 2010

If you are looking for a great place to relax, this is it. Alberto and Mar (the caretakers)are the key to this place, they wait on you hand and foot. Mar is without a doubt one of the best cooks ever. Don't take to many clothes, bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts are quit enough. Mar will wash you clothes from the day before and have them on the corner of your bed when you return from your adventure with Alberto. Alberto is without a doubt the best guide for fishing and snorkeling on the island. We go to town with him and get the fresh produce, etc. that we need., he knows where to grt the best price on everything. We eat fresh lobster, fish and conch every day that Alberto will help you catch He will dress your catch and Mar will cook it any way you want. We have been twice with different friends and both loved the place and the service. Eat, fish snorkel, drink and make merry, there is nothing you can say bad about this place. It's a private home, the use of the boat, Alberto and Mar make it a great value. We plan to return, we e-mail Alberto about every week to check on them and there children. We think of them as family, and there could be no better family to have.
Don't go if you are looking for noghtlife. Sun, sand, fishing, lobster conch, food and relaxing are the order of the day at this great place.

We returned to Casa Blanca after two years. It was like coming home. Alberto & Mar are now extended family and you can't help but love them.
The house as always is spectacular and suits our every need. Our boys were older now and were able to experience spearfishing and scuba diving. Casa Blanca is our #1 rated holiday experience. The only problem with Casa Blanca is it's so wonderful you'll never want to leave!!

After reading all of the previous reviews we booked our honeymoon with our fingers crossed that Casa Blanca would be everything we hoped for. Once we arrived it exceeded our expectations in every way. Mar and Alberto really are that wonderful, the food really is that fantastic, and the house and grounds really are that beautiful. There was no lack of activities to keep us busy - renting bikes and golf carts, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, etc - but the house is so fantastic that we could have spent all of our days there just lounging around. Highly, highly recommended!

I can't say enough amazing things about this little piece of heaven. Just stayed for a week from 2/14-21, with 2 families of 4. The house is spacious, comfortable and being right on the beach, very cool. Alberto and Mar make the house "a home", with all their warmth and expertise about the island. Alberto knows all the fishing spots, and the waters around Ambergris like the back of his hand. They make the stay fantastic. Getting to town is a 15 minute boat ride. The surrounding restaurants are very over priced. We mostly had Mar cook for us, which was a luxury and a treat. I want to go back!

We just got back from our second stay at Casa Blanca with our first being in 2006. As great as ever. Alberto was at the airport to pick us up and take us in the boat to our hideaway. But first, we stopped by the grocery to pick up items we wanted for our stay (you can also send a list prior and the groceries will be there upon your arrival).

We had our usual great meal that evening that Mar prepared. The next few days we went fishing, snorkeling and spear fishing along the reef. Nothing like having fresh-caught lobster and fish for dinner. Alberto knows the area so well and offers fantastic suggestions of where to take you on the boat; all you have to pay for is the gas.

Two floors can be rented with each about 2,000 square feet. It is spacious and comfortable. A sun deck is on the roof as well. The grounds are beautiful.

A thatch covered roof has been added to one portion of the dock so that it is a great area to relax looking out over the water. And though you are right on the beach, you feel nice and secluded.

If you are looking for a personal experience, this is the place. You can make it the most relaxed or the most adventurous.

My husband,16 year old son, 27 year old daughter, her husband & I just returned from Casa Blanca. We arrived at the airport in San Pedro where Alberto was waiting on us, even though we were an hour late. We took the boat to the house where Adrian and Mar greeted us with warm smiles and a beautiful house. Alberto cut fresh coconut from the trees in the front yard while Mar brought out our dinner for the night. The next morning we were up and on the boat for a great day of fishing & snorkeling. When we arrived home Mar had coconut tarts and coconut crust waiting on us. Alberto & Adrian cleaned our days catch and Mar cooked a meal fit for a king. I can't say enough good things about Casa Blanca. We are looking forward to staying at the house on our next trip to San Pedro. We take home with us warm memories and full stomachs.
