PROs: The facilities are generally nice and safe. For the price, quite good value. It has a pier to enter water, but it is not really too nice to swim. Wifi works in the rooms. Generally a good option.
CONs: Location is a bit too much south, as you need to walk long distance to town or the 'spit' (which is the nice public beach area). Swimming of the pier is nt so nice.

We had three days at The Anchorage as part of an organised tour of Belize and we really couldn't have chosen better ourselves. In our opinion, one of the best spots on the island - away from what little noise and nightlife there is on Caye Caulker, peaceful and lovely little beach, comfortable rooms with excellent air con if you need it, fridge, microwave to make a cup of tea / coffee, free use of kayaks for an hour - all perfect. A great choice of places to eat breakfast and other meals, so no need for a restaurant on site (didn't quite understand this 'til I got to Caye Caulker and saw how small it was and the lovely casual style to the buildings and restaurants. The beauty of this is you can spend as much - or as little - as you want on food and still have a great time. Another couple in our group were lucky enough to have another week in Belize and had booked a stay at Ambergris Caye. After two days they turned around and came back to Anchorage, as their new place just didn't compare! We had a ground floor room and whilst the higher floors probably have lovely views and more breeze, we found it really convenient to be able to pop in and out easily to our room directly from the beach. Also our room stayed pretty cool, as floors above protected it.

We rode by with our bike and suddenly I was wondering why we didn't book a room here. No loud music, not too many people. Sea view rooms. It really looked amazing. I would stay here next time. Hopefully I will be able to.

Exceptional views, incredible staff, the best beach area of any resort on the water, kayaks (to use for one hour free each day) - all these made my stay at Anchorage heavenly.

I stayed in multiple hotels/guest houses during my month in Caye Caulker and found the Anchorage to be the best deal for the price, and could not have been happier.

First, let's set expectations. On an island, when it rains for extended periods, the bathroom and the hotel room may smell musty. And when it's warm and not windy, there will be bugs. Both sand flies and mostquitos. This is an island, plan accordingly. The room furnishings are nothing to brag about. The bathroom will smell musty when it rains. The hot water pressure varies.

That said, the rooms are very large, with ceiling fans. The AC units are newer and cool in minutes. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the sheets and pillows smell fresh and clean. There is a a large sandy beach area, probably the largest for a resort on the water. On Caye Caulker, beach means sand, but all water access is by docks.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, always checking if you needed anything, and doing their best to accommodate your requests. They always seemed happy to see you, and were willing to work with you, unlike other places which seemed to view your presence as existing only to make them money, whether it's over charging for an island map or a bottle of water.

And the price is very good for what you get, when compared to the other resorts right on the beach.

If you are very particular about your rooms, you will be disappointed. If you want the best location with the best view, from the best balcony, with the kindest staff, you will be elated. As I spent most of my time on my balcony or outside, I was completely satisfied and can't wait to get back.

Room Tip: The views from the third floor rooms are excellent. The convenience of the first floor rooms are fun - step off your porch and right onto the beach.

Caulkner's not got much in the way of beaches, but the Anchorage has the one location on the island with a private Caribbean space to lounge in - which is its big sell. It's on the other side from The Split, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as the place is so small it's just a lazy walk away. The service is very practical, professional, and process-driven, so if you're looking for the small-town personal touch, perhaps spend some time looking around. If i had stayed longer than a night, i would probably have gone for a cabana, a hut, or something more like an apartment. Because it's essentially a small town, it kind of feels out of place.

The room was clean, and the staff appeared to be quite mindful of security. Like a lot of places, they take VISA, which is incredibly helpful.

Pros:
---------------------------
Simple, professional service
Has the only real beach on the island ($5.00 for non-residents)
Big rooms with plasma TV (+US cable), microwave, balcony, and nice views
Relatively good value compared to the others ($67/night).
Peaceful and residential, away from nightlife.

Cons:
---------------------------
Feels quite impersonal
Wifi signal is very poor, and system in need of repair
Mattresses quite dirty (although sheets clean)
No cafe or food (just a hut with morning tea/coffee)
Harsh overhead lighting in the room, rather than ambient
No supplied toiletries

The security issues seem to stem from previous incidences of people coming over from the mainland and hiding out in the beach areas - although apparently it has been quite a long time since there were any issues (heard this from multiple sources), and the island as a whole is an understandable target (as opposed to just the Anchorage). Regardless, i was advised not to walk on the beach at night as its pitch black without any lighting. I certainly didn't feel worried at all at any point.

In summary, if you're staying for a few nights, it's entirely adequate. If you're on the island for any longer, you'll want the kind of personality and experience you'll get from a little condo or cabana.
