PRO: The courtyard and pool area were nice.
CON. The rooms left much to be desired. They didn't seem to be too clean. They were small. The electric lighting was very dim.
We didn't use the restaurant.

We were looking to downgrade to a simpler place so we could save money to do more things, so we went on the hunt for a room with private bath and a/c, and we scored a great deal with Chinatown Hotel. Was it the best hotel I've ever stayed at or the cleanest? Absolutely not, but it did have a small fridge, TV w/ cable and the bed was comfortable. The pool outside was a really awesome perk that I have to say i LOVED and took full advantage of. We met some really great people while we were there too. If you are looking for a place to basically sleep in, stay here. I wish the bathrooms were a little nicer and worked more efficiently, but honestly, this place fit the bill for the rest of our stay on the island. One word of advice that I heard while staying here (don't eat at the restaurant in the lobby!!)

This was an odd place, Caye Caulkner is such a wonderful island with a great vibe about it, yet this hotel lacked any kind of atmosphere. The staff were usually unfriendly as opposed to unhelpful but showed no interest/welcome whatsoever to their guests. The hotel building could have been anywhere and was devoid of any Belizean character whatsoever. The ensuite room had a satellite tv and a fridge which was handy, but it also had an unhealthy amount of air freshners all over the place, weird. Anything left on the bed was simply dumped on the floor when the room was being made up. Breakfast was quite possibly the worst I have ever seen - cold fried sandwiches, soft (out of date) cornflakes, and some watermelon. Cafe Amor on the main strip which is open until 12 is a much better option, yum. I wouldn't by choice stay here again, fortunately there is so much to do on the island we spent very little time there.

We had a group of about 35 stay there recently. Fortunately for all of us, we were on there one night but it was a rough night. The weather was hot and for some unknown reason, all the rooms smelled like outhouses. The rooms were reasonably clean and neat but they stunk to high-heaven. Also, the little air-conditioners couldn't really compensate for the heat and several of them blew circuits when left on. I had to reset the circuit breaker myself. The mattresses were literally like covered boxes with a very minimal amount of padding, less than 1 inch in my estimation. The staff were friendly and there is a restaurant and general store attached to the hotel. It's a little bit off the beaten track Caye Caulker but we could have lived with that if the rooms had been better. They have a small pool and some hammocks which are nice but I would recommend finding a better hotel on the island unless cost is your primary concern and you don't mind the poor room accommodations and the smell. As for me, I won't be going back to that hotel when I return to the island later this year.

The hotel is actually not horrible. The rooms are tiny, but clean, had AC, TV and even a fridge. There is a pool, but I suspect it is used mainly to grow mosquitoes. The location is bad by Caye Caulker standards, where most of the hotels are beach front. (And we did miss the breeze...)

What we didn't like was the crappy service. There was a list at the front desk with the 'charges' for stealing things from the room. When checking out someone went to our room to check for missing items. Not very charming.

They boast amenities like a pool and rooftop patio but they don't mention that it sounds like the roof is caving in if someone is up on the roof above your room. the walls were disgustingly dirty (dead, bloody mosquitoes) and they left a rusty, used razor on the bathroom counter, displayed with the soap like we were supposed to use it? Not a bad price but it's the kind of place you stay in until you get the place you really want. The lobby smells strongly of chinese food and the main floor reeked of sewage. Good air conditioning though.

First the good stuff - the hotel is clean, modern and good value with nice grounds and a thoughtful touch was providing not only soap but also shampoo and a disposable razor (however when the soap ran out it wasn't replaced). Someone else commented on dirty marks on the sheet and on the first day ours looked like someone had slept in it covered in oil and it hadn't washed off properly, but I think it was actually clean, just stained.

HOWEVER, the worst thing was the attitude of the staff - they barely looked at you when speaking, the attitude seemed to be that we were out to cheat them. We had to pay in advance and when we extended our stay by one night (because we couldn't be bothered having to repack and move) they hounded us every time they saw us until we paid for the last night. There were signs stating what you had to pay if you broke things - including the aquarium in the foyer (US$5000). One staff member was walking ahead of me and went through a door and let it slam in my face!! The girl who cleaned our room at least smiled and was pleasant. When I went and relaxed in the hammock in the garden the staff kept staring, and they also own the supermarket next door and when we went there they followed us around and stood and watched us but didn't say anything even though it was obvious we were looking for something. The vibe on the island is so friendly that this attitude really stood out and was really unpleasant - we decided to cope with it by laughing about it but it was a shame. I have to say, the owners and staff of this hotel are a different ethnicity to the island people.

The other negatives were the very hard mattresses that another person has commented on, the fact that the water took about five minutes to heat up (and it stopped all together one time, my partner went to ask them to fix it and a young man came and stared at me soapy and wrapped in a towel, didn't say anything and disappeared but must have fixed it because it came on again - it would have been nice if they'd told us). The lighting in the room was also very poor.

There is so much accommodation here that there is no need to settle for lousy service - find somewhere else with more character and lovely people and you'll be much better off.
