“Having your own well-equipped kitchen is a welcome break from multiple backpackers fighting over a couple of gas hobs.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Private apartment with ensuite and full kitchen, $400 BZD per week, 7th-13th April 2014

Vibe: Strong ex-pat community, with a number of Canadians escaping the winter. Quiet and safe.

Location: One street back from the beach and a few minutes walk from the ferry dock. Close to all Caye Caulker's bars and restaurants.

Best thing: Having your own well-equipped kitchen is a welcome break from multiple backpackers fighting over a couple of gas hobs. Better still, having your own fridge means cold beers on-tap!

Worst thing: The set up made it difficult to meet other travellers. If you were travelling on your own, you could feel a little isolated staying here.

Value for money: If staying for more than a week, a great deal can be had – the cabana we stayed in should have been $90 BZD/night but weekly rate worked out at approx. $60, reducing to $30 if staying a month.

Recommended for: Couples on a budget who have been travelling for a while, are planning on staying on the island for at least a week or those wanting that extra bit of privacy at a reasonable cost.

Top tip: Book ahead as this place tends to fill up fast. Also, the wi-fi password will be keyed into your device by a member of staff.

Rating: 7/10 (for a long term stay).

What a shame this place has next to no reviews. We stayed here for 4 days and it was perfect. Quiet, decent sized room, plenty of air blowing through the open windows, balcony, hammock and cable TV. It was more than we wanted to pay (75 BZ dollars per night) but compared to other accommodation we had looked at, was miles ahead and well worth the extra cash. Great location with shops and beach a stone's throw away. Lovely relaxing hide-out for a few days soaking up the lovely island of Caye Caulker. One downside...the owners could be a bit more approachable...check this place out!

We checked out quite a few places to stay before finding this little gem. The hostals we saw either had no windows, were really small or just sweat boxes. We ended up staying here for five days in the large upstairs apartment. Two big double beds, private bathroom, balcony with hammocks and lots of windows meant it was always cool in there. No need for horrible air con but it's there if you want it.

I was poorly as well for a few days and was so pleased we had a nice cool room without any noise to get better.

You are 30 seconds from restaurants and a small supermarket plus a little old man sells coffee next door every morning for a dollar.

It wasn't the cheapest in the whole area but only marginally more money and worth it.

If you want drinks by the way, the Chinese takeaway on the corner is half the price than the mini market next to it (even though it seems to be joint owned, weird)

Dave and his wife hosted three of us for a couple of nights. The rooms are not fancy but clean and have air for at night when you need it. They can set up tours and do rentals of bikes and golf carts for you. If you want to do a tour, use them. They have local contacts as they are from here. Not transplants. We sat outside with them and chatted on Mothers Day when his wife made a chicken gizzard dish and shared it with us. Local spices and local friendliness made it just a nice evening. They gave great advice on where to hang out (The Split of course) and have dinner. You are not on the beach but half a block away. Everything is close by.
