“One of the better places to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2014

Let me start with the cons:
1. The unit had a slight musty smell;
2. The mattresses are as hard as rocks and make for a miserable night's sleep ( pillows are the same);
3. The bed frame makes a terrible creaking sound that if you manage to get some shut eye, the creaking sound will wake you when you turn;
4. Water pressure is marginal.

Pros:
1. Bobbie made all the arrangements for us to be met by a taxi and whisked through Belize City to the water taxi. Then she arranged for us to be met at the water taxi dock on Caye Caulker by a golf cart taxi and taken to Caye Reef. All made the transitions easy and less time consuming. Very reasonable too!
2. Nice unit overlooking Front Street at the popular Split. All amenities, restaurants, snorkeling/dive shops within walking distance. We enjoyed mornings on the balcony watching the island slowly come to life.
if you want something off the beaten track, I would recommend Colinda's cabins on the other end of the island.

Thank you for your feed-back "QueenTiff" which we take seriously. Apologies that any mustiness was not picked up before your stay, it is easy to treat and has been now.

While the overwhelming majority of our guests like the orthopaedic mattresses, we state in our hotel policies (on our rates page and on the booking engine) that soft memory-foam topper mattresses are available on request for those who prefer a softer bed. It is unfortunate this information was not clear enough for you and I have now put this part in bold to help future guests.

We were unaware of the creaking bed and have made arrangements to install bracing to correct this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We will look into your water pressure issue - it may just have been a partially blocked shower head (a hazard of living on limestone). While it is not practical to install power showers (fresh water is a precious resource on the Caye. It is made by reverse osmosis or collected off the roof), the pressure does not usually cause complaint.

I did a lot of research to ensure we stayed in the right area on the island. I think this hotel is perfectly situated at the northern end of the island just below the split. Try and get room 5 or 6, these are the two rooms on the top floor. Room 5 is the best as they are doing some construction outside of room 5 and it does block a bit of the view on that side of the building. I can't say enough about how awesome room 5 is, the view is incredible from the balcony or walk up one flight to the roof top deck and hot tub for a complete 360 degree view of the entire island. It's worth nothing that they do not clean your room while you are checked in but we had no problem with that and were actually relieve not to worry about it.

Room Tip: Choose Room 5

Thank you for your super review 'chad Q'. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay - it is only a shame the weather was not drier.

FYI, it is a hotel policy that maid service is available, on request, every three days - or more often for a small charge. See our web site for more details.

We just returned from 7 days on Caye Caulker and are so glad we chose Caye Reef as our home away from home! The condo was fabulous and the location unbeatable - right on Front street with the ocean a mere few steps away! Bobbi arranged to have us met and transported to Caye Reef. She showed us around and gave us tips on everything from restaurants to grocery stores to tour operators. Also, she provided a cell phone for our use while there. She or her staff were always accommodating to our needs or inquires throughout our stay. The first thing we noticed upon entering the condo was the A/C - it was a very humid day when we arrived so it was a truly a relief to walk into. The open concept Living Room, Dining Area and fully equipped kitchen was spacious, welcoming, well lit, comfy, clean and beautifully decorated. The tap water was 100% drinkable and, to make guests even more comfortable, unlimited bottled water was provided at no additional charge and without requesting it beforehand. A nice option! The bedrooms were spacious, VERY comfortable and clean, as were the bathrooms (nice step-in showers with plenty of hot water). We were in Condo #2 - one BR had a Queen bed and the 2nd BR had two twin beds, each with their own bathroom attached. The platform bed concerned me at first, as I usually need a box spring for a good night's sleep, but the mattress was so thick and supportive that I never noticed the difference. There was a beautiful walk-in closet with lots of hangars, ample shelving and safe for valuables. The floors were a beautiful non-slip tile throughout the condo. The east-facing veranda was great, and perfect for watching the sunrise. It was right off the LR - with comfy cushioned chairs, a coffee table and our own hammock. There was even a small clothesline & clothespins in an inconspicuous spot there for our use. Great for dripping bathing suits! The rooftop area was really nice with a great all-around view! There are tables/chairs, lounge chairs, or multiple hammocks available. The hot tub is heated for evening use, as the days are too hot anyway. And the icing on the cake, the pool, was sparkling clean and refreshing ! We would go back to Caye Reef in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: If you prefer not to climb stairs, condos # 1 or 2 would be your best option, as there is no elevato...

We just got back from a great 5 night trip to Caye Caulker. We were met at the water taxi and taken to the condo. Bobbi showed us around and let us know how to contact her, it was nice having a cell phone available.

The condo was very nice, the nicest place we saw on the island. The full kitchen was handy for snacks and making drinks to take to the rooftop and watch the sunset ( Fantastic View!) It was well located, easy to walk wherever you wanted to and secure at night.

The only downside was the beds are a little hard, but didn't have any trouble sleeping after a full day on the water. Overall, I think this was the best choice for our stay on the island.

Room Tip: Stayed in a 3rd floor unit, great views, but they are also available on the rooftop deck!

We stayed at CayeReef for 4 nights. We were met at the airport and carted (golf cart) to the property. We stayed on the 3rd floor, room 5. The manager, Bobby, was extremely friendly and accommodating. We felt like this was home away from home. Very spacious 2 bedroom condo, fully stocked kitchen, hot water and very comfortable beds. Centrally located, near the split, although we never went there. We rented bicycles which we locked up outside the condo and rode all over the island. This was our first time to Caye Caulker and we can't wait to return and we will definitely return to Room 5 at CayeReef.

Room Tip: No elevators. Stairs. only.

After 8 weeks on the road we wanted to treat ourselves on caye caulker. We couldn't have picked better place to stay. Bobby the manager was great from the start. The suite we got was amazing and felt just like home, we really didn't want to leave. Best part also thy have a pool and a roof top jaucuzzi with the best views on caye caulker.
Thanks Bobby for all your help and making it a great stay. We will definitely be coming back.
