My best friend and I spent three weeks exploring Belize top to bottom June 26th –July 16th. We spent the last four days of our trip on Caye Caulker. We chose that time of year to travel because it is considered the wet season and there for much cheaper all around. What a beautiful, peaceful place. Even though it was the wet season..we never saw anything but blue skies and sun. We booked our flight with Tropic air and flew direct out of Belmopan to the Caye. During our trip we flew several times with Tropic air back and forth to different Cayes and they were all so friendly and accommodating! We decided to find accommadations once we had landed on Caye Caulker because we could not decide based on the online information. We had no problem finding a place. We told the taxi (golf cart) driver what we were looking for and he suggested a few places. We ended up at Island Magic Hotel. We could not have been happier; it is a beautiful ocean front hotel. Our room was on the second floor facing the incredibly beautiful blue water and white sand beach. Our room had two points of entry an interior stair case to front door or private stairs from beach to the balcony which was great. Our room was modern and clean with a kitchenette and large bathroom with all the hot water you could use. There is a big hammock on the balcony so you can relax and take in the splendor that is the Caribbean. The hotel has a beautiful pool with plenty of deck loungers and a little beachside café/bar…Jaci makes great drinks and snacks there. The hotel is central to everything, walk in either direction on the main street or on the beach and you will find bars and restaurants.
The little town is quaint and beautiful. No cars there just golf carts and bikes. Caye Caulker is so small with just three white sand streets it makes it so easy to walk everywhere. Banks, restaurants food stores and gift shops line the streets and lots of street vendors with freshly prepared foods. We ate out mostly as we were only there for a few days. Food was always good and had a great experience at each one. I can’t pick one over another because they were all fun and different in their own way. We never felt unsafe there; the people are friendly and helpful.
Snorkeling is about as good as it gets with warm clear blue water teaming with fish and coral. You can charter a boat out to the marine reserve, take a water taxi over to Ambergris Caye for the day or just explore the waters off the dock.
Caye Caulker is such a beautiful laid back place!…GO SLOW is the Caribbean motto and perfectly describes the island way!! It was the perfect place to unwind and recharge before returning to Canada. I would return and stay at this hotel again!

Room Tip: Ocean front room is a must!....This is a tiny quiet island...if you are looking for a lot of nightli...

After staying at Island Magic Beach Resort for the third and final time, we won't be back. It just keeps going downhill since our first stay in 2010.
Service is non-existent - No transportation to and from the water taxi, no coffee in the room, no bottled water, no bikes, a musty odor in the room and mold was growing in the shower. Apparently management care about hygiene because housekeeping never touched the shower in the 3 days we were there – how hard would it be to use a little bleach?
The next day, after spending the day snorkeling with Big Steve of Black Hawk Tours, we just wanted to relax and enjoy a few drinks around the pool – the bar was closed. So we ended up at the Barrier Reef Sports Bar and had a great time. The bar was open the next day so we decided to get a few drinks and have something to eat before sightseeing. We were sadly disappointed, instead of having fresh lobster it was frozen! And the bartender after rummaging around in the cooler for a few minutes informed us that she was out of tomato juice and celery for our Bloody Mary’s. After 3 days we left and spent the rest of our vacation at Caye Reef which had AC and a pool but without the mold and musty odor.
We spend an average of two weeks on Caye Caulker, at least 3 or 4 times per year and there are better deals on the island that offer AC/pool and charge less. Granted it is a 3rd world country, but they are charging American prices without the American service or amenities.

Room Tip: Save your money and go to Caye Reef instead

The pool is the best part of the property. The rooms are clean, nothing grand. Service non-existence. No coffee in the room, no bottled water. No place to put your stuff in the bathrooms.
There are better deals on the island that have the kitchenettes and furnish water, coffee and bikes, plus charge less.
It is a 3rd world country, but they are charging American prices without the American service or amenities.

Dont let the title fool you. Here's exactly what I thought every time I left the property. "Where am I?" I would relax by the pool or sit over the bar overlooking the ocean, or be reading in the comfy lounge chairs. Got that? I would get up and decide to go out for food, or a walk, or whatever, and as I left the property, I would be immediately stricken with the thought that I had left Xanadu. The streets of the island are dirt and dirty, the smell sometimes gets to me in places, the adjacent properties are rundown. I'm in a third world country, on an island in the Caribbean. You would never know it sitting by the pool or in your room. This is a NICE place. Not perfect or five star Miami, but you will mistake where you are after staying here. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are clean, pool is cool and attractive, bar is nice, chairs are comfortable, nice long pier is fun and solid. What more could you want? Prices are competitive for the whole country and definitively reasonable compared to some of the others on the Caye. Get an upstairs room for the view and enjoy feeling like you are not part of the rest of the island.

First of all you must realize that Caye Caulker is a very small island. You come to simply relax and experience the 'island life'. That is total relaxation. Island Magic is the place to do it. Clean rooms and friendly staff. The air conditioning is a plus. Staff was very helpful with all of my questions for places to eat and making boat excursions. It is worth the extra expense to get one of the second floor rooms as you can look out at the gorgeous water from your hammock. Easy access to island activites since you can walk it all under an hour, at a slow pace. Activities are restaurants and sitting at the split to watch sail boarders and the sunset. Plan a boat excursion to snorkel or see the rays or go to Shark Alley. A day trip to the more commercial island of Ambergris Caye is a possibility if you can tear yourself away. The pool and upper deck by the pool are a treat at Island Magic.

We have been coming to Caye Caulker 1997(when the island was even more family cozy). We have stayed in many types of accommodations, from cabanas on the beach, to condos, to fully furnished apartments and hotel rooms with only beds. Hands down the Island Magic Resort has been a combination of an amazing room with a kitchen and a fabulous view of the translucent blue Caribean Sea! The pool and jacuzzi are refreshing after a day of Mayan Ruins exploring. The local owners get personally involved in assuring your every need is met. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. If you have stayed other places on the island and want to upgrade your stay this is the place to stay. If you have never been to Caye Caulker and have a need for a little pampering on your vacation...this is the place to make home for your stay, while you dive, snorkel and explore Mayan Ruins. It is centrally located on Front street, so everything is within walking distance.

Room Tip: We stayed in the honey moon suite on the second floor. It has a pillow top king size bed. The view f...
