“Beware of Rude Man”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

We never actually stayed here. This review is soley based on the experience with an angry man that works here.

So, we went to Belize for 12 days and stayed the first four nights at a different hotel in Caye Caulker. We really liked Caye Caulker and had left the last four nights of our trip without a reservation anywhere. We were heading to San Pedro for four nights and at the time decided we wanted to come back to Caye Caulker. This place had a room available, so we booked it for the last days of our trip. When we got to San Pedro, we got talking to some locals and said San Ignacio was worth checking out, so we needed to cancel our reservation at Barefoot. We understood there might be some penalty for cancelling and had no problem paying it.

My buddy called the place to cancel two days before our reservation and talked to a very rude man. He became very hostile on the phone and started calling my buddy 'a very bad man'. He claimed he was turning people away for our room. He hung up on my buddy and never did tell us what the penalty was for cancelling. Like I said we were prepared to pay a penalty for cancelling, but he left us in the dark not knowing what he might charge us. The next day someone else called and spoke to my buddy and said we would be charged one night stay for cancelling. Fine. Why couldn't the man have told this in a calm manner and not leave us unsure of what was going on?

I don't like writing bad reviews, but I felt this guy deserves a bad review for being a jerk. It could be a nice place to stay, but hopefully he treats you better than he did us.

I am currently spending 2 weeks here in the off season (July). This is a great little place for those on a tight budget. For $25/night, I have a very clean, freshly painted room with tile floor, tv, and 2 fans. Nothing fancy but it's cleaned daily with fresh but scratchy towels. It's close to the the "split" where everyone goes to swim/hang-out when not out on a boat. It's convenient to groceries and restaurants. Only 2 rooms available at that price, others have AC or other amenities like a hammock so if you want the cheaper room, call ahead to reserve. They are currently building 1 or 2 small apartments with mini-kitchen for anyone wanting to stay a month or longer. A good deal for the budget traveler who doesn't want a hostel. Fatima was very helpful in making my reservation.

Room Tip: If you are requesting the cheapest room, ask for the one on the 3rd floor for the best breezes and v...

We took a day trip to Caye Caulker from Ambergris Cay and liked it so we walked the island
looking for a nice affordable place. The hotel is right in the middle of town on the main street and across from the beach. We had a room on the third floor in the front with a balcony. It was nice to hang out, lay in the hammock, people watch. The room was big and clean. The TV worked with lots of channels and the air conditioning worked very well. The daily maid was very thorough and our room was always spotless and smelled nice. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is a restaurant right across from the hotel and lots of restaurants and local vendors within easy walking distance. The Split is also only minutes away and a great place to chill, have a few drinks, socialize, snorkel or just hang out. We took a day trip to Chetumal, Mexico, by boat. It wasn't worth the money and dont recommend it. All kinds of extra fees that they don't tell you about when you book the trip.
There is no pool but a small courtyard. We were usually gone all day walking the island which is easy to do. Only vehicles are golf carts but you don't really need one. The beach is not great. We would recommend this hotel for the price. ($75/night)

Room Tip: Rooms on the front with a balcony have the best view.

We spent our last night in Belize at this place. We were at a jungle lodge for the previous 10 days which was excellent. This was the only hotel available for us on Caye Caulker and when I saw our room, which faced the street, I was not pleased. It reeked of chemical perfume and we later found a room deodorizer hanging from the wall. We slept there just one night and when we got home to our respective houses, we found to our horror we were itching like crazy through the night. We woke the next day covered with bumpy red bites. We are now trying to eradicate the bed bugs which I understand is very difficult. I would not recommend this hotel, it would never, ever stay at this hotel again. God knows what else is creeping around in those rooms.

Alittle more money than some others but was clean and we slept well. The owners are very nice ..the only poor thing was they did not have or offer potable water to thier guests. Ac worked well . This property is basically downtown Caye Caulker.. No free use of boats or bikes which we got at another place on the island.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north end of the building at street front have a view of the ocean the rest have a peek...

This hotel has reasonably helpful staff and a great location. It was relatively inexpensive and a good value for that low cost. Our room was toward the back of the hotel, had two full beds, and A/C. The bathroom was a bit shabby and there were a few small bugs. Unlike many other hotels on Caulker, there were no veranda chairs for the back (cheaper) rooms. I wished the room had more than one lock on the door, but I appreciated that the staff seemed to keep a very close eye on the people coming and going from the hotel. Laundry is also available on-site at a reasonable price and quick turnaround.

Room Tip: Front rooms are right on the main street, so might be a bit noisy

We stayed for a few nights in december. The staff were helpful and friendly. There we no bugs and it was clean though a bit old it was fine for us. We had a back room with no AC just a fan which was ok as it wasnt too hot. The rooms seems fairly big and the AC rooms looked good too. Good location quiet. Hot water. Nothing fancy. Accepts credit cards.
