“Great Value. Amazing aircon.”
Reviewed 24 September 2013 via mobile

Just recently stayed at Barefoot Caribe Hotel.
We (2 Canadian girls, 2 German girls, and 3 German guys) arrived on the island about midday. As its technically the "low" season in Belize, we didn't think we'd have too much of an issue finding a place. After canvassing and checking out rooms for half an hour, we quickly realized that even if we split up it wasn't as easy as we were expecting.

We ventured down the beach north, trying all hostels (we're attempting to be on a budget) such as Yumas, Dirty Mcnasty's, etc. but no luck. Finally we started asking at hotels to see if we could negotiate group discounts. We were successful in a few places, but the best deal appeared to be barefoot. We checked out the room that was to be for us 2 Canadian girls and to our surprise, not only was there 2 double beds instead of one, there was also what I would call a world class air conditioner that put the aircon systems of the 5 star cancun resort we stayed in the week prior to shame. Upon realizing we could easily share the room with the German girls, we decided to combine together and share a room.

For just us 2 it would have been $70BZ for the 2 dbl beds + private bathroom, shower, balcony, and aircon. Oh - and there was free (good!) wifi.

With the 2 German girls, it was $20BZ extra per person so all 4 of us ended up being able to negotiate the room to $100BZ ($12.50usd each).

Fatima at the front desk was amazing, spoke English as first language, and therefore was able to provide advice on tours, eats, etc.

They provided us with clean sheets and towels each day, and the beach is across the street, so that was nice.

The hotel is also a 3 minute walk to the split for drinks and a beach, and 5 minutes to the boat docks, ATM, etc.

Overall, instead of staying only 1 night in Caye Caulker, we stayed 4. It's an amazing and friendly place that absolutely must not be missed!

The grandpa at the front desk told me the price for the room was USD35 when I walked in to check the room & price. But when I made the payment later, a woman at the front desk(I was told by an employee that she is the owner) insisted the correct price should be USD45 and said the man who quoted & gave me the room key probably made a mistake. Well, if someone from your hotel made such mistake, it's hotel's responsibility, not mine. It's not big money but tells something about the owner's personality.
Moreover, when most accommodations on this island are full or with limited availability due to the lobster fest, this hotel, with such good location and moderate room, still got so many vacancies is actually a bad sign that I shouldn't have overlooked.

We stayed at the suite upstairs with ocean view. You inly get a minor view of the ocean but the room as big and full of space.
The hostes was very kind and helpful, gave us good tips for the island, and even gave us a lift on her golf cart! While we stayed we did the snorkeling tour with ez boy - it was the highlight of our trip!!!

We did not make reservations for our trip to Caye Caulker. We ended up at this hotel after we got off our water taxi in part because we both recognized the name from research we did prior to leaving for our trip. The place was ok for the price. Our room was in the back of the hotel but still had a slight view of the water. There were two full size beds, a dresser, tv, and full bathroom. The air conditioner worked just fine and the noise was minimal. The bed wasn't very comfortable with springs popping up, but we really weren't there to stay in a hotel anyway. The bathroom had an odd smell to it. We only stayed two nights as we were traveling to another part of Belize. The location is decent, central with a lot of restaurants and tour operators nearby (the island is tiny, so really location isn't an issue!).

We stayed for 3 nights in January. Arrived with no reservation so had no choice but to take a larger room with 2 double beds. Wasn't a good value for us, but the room was clean & the air conditioner worked. Don't like the policy that you only get 2 towels, but the seems to be the norm in caulker. The owner/manager was very friendly & helpful. Our room was right out front almost on the street, but noise level was not an issue. we would stay here again, but make reservations in advance.

We spent two nights in the hotel and we had no complaints at all.
After checking on quite a few rooms on the island, Barefoot was the best value for the money. The price was slightly negotiable for more people and more days, we had free coffee in the restaurant across the street ('Sobre las alas' - good breakfast options).
Fine, comfortable beds, hot shower, clean rooms, helpful staff.

Take your time and enjoy Belize, you've just found a good place to spend the night! :)

This centrally located, family owned hotel has a variety of rooms for great prices. The Garden view room we stayed in for 5 nights is comfortable & very affordable but the upgrade to the ocean view, king bed, private balcony with hammock was totally worth it for 3 days at x-mas. The restaurant across the street which is owned by the same family - Sobre Las Olas - was great for breakfast. Just remember that motto of the island is "go slow", when you're looking to pay your bill! Take care of stuff like that in advance if you can.

Room Tip: If you're on a budget, go for the garden view 2nd or 3rd floors. Otherwise, pay yourself the tre...
