“Go here, not Ambergris”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

We spent a week in Caye Caulker to do some scuba diving. The island is small, with packed sand roads, bright houses and friendly people. You can walk to anywhere you need to go, there are no cars, only golf carts, and while we only spent a day on Ambergris Caye, we'd rank caye caulker #1 for sure. It is not at all commercial, and there are a ton of different places to eat! Very relaxed, without the constant hassling of people trying to sell you things. Try 'Herrolyn's house of fry jack's' for cheap tasty breakfast and 'pasta per caso' for dinner.

“Relaxed and friendly”
Reviewed 15 December 2013

This was our best stop in Belize (except for the Black Rock lodge in San Ignacio). You do not have the annoying noise of all those golf carts as in San Pedro. You do not need to look behind you for some vehicle when walking the street.
I spent a week there and never wore shoes. Nice sandy roads. Tons of restaurants of all kind.
Unfortunately, you cannot really swim there. You can find a small spot here and there but this is not a p^lace for swimming. People say that the Split is the place to go to but I cut both feet in the water there. You will find a lot of garbage in the water everywhere, not appealing to swim in any case.
Good snorkeling reached within minutes. OK place to relax.
I will not return to Belize but if I was going to, this would be the only place I would consider.

“Maybe Most Relaxed Island In The World”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

A slip of an island where all you need is shorts and a t shirt. No stress. The area around the water is beautiful and the water itself is tops. Strongly recommeded.

“Amazing place, local animals need more help”
Reviewed 12 December 2013

We visited Caye Caulker and had a wonderful time. The islanders are friendly, the food is cheap, the area is beautiful. There are a lot of stray dogs and many tourists don't appreciate how these are dealt with. When the numbers get too much, the council poisons them with strychnine, causing them a painful death. This was done shortly before our visit. I thought a lot of the dogs looked very healthy, but when I spoke to locals, they said they were new ones brought in after the poisoning and after a while they won't look so healthy. More needs to be done with regards to educating locals and tourists about what goes on with these animals and to encourage responsible pet care.
