Vega Inn has a guest house near the water taxi doc, and a couple of other places around the island. We rented a house that was up toward the Split from the doc. The house was great, but we didn't get much rest. There are some rental properties behind the house that had 4-5 dogs living off the trash that the tenants would dump out their kitchen window. Beside the disgusting scene, it was just dogs barking all night. It was super annoying. I complained to the Vega owner, she talked to the neighbors and nothing changed. So if you're staying with Vega, the house up the street is great, but the dogs and the noise up there is intolerable. I found the condition of the island terribly disappointing. There is trash everywhere, and no one appears interested in cleaning it up. Foam food containers everywhere you look. It's a shame really. A gorgeous caribbean island covered in trash, with ferrel dogs running all over the place. Would be good for a couple, not so hot for kids as there really isn't much of a beach. The split would be OK for swimming if the fisherman up there wouldn't clean their catch and leave the guts. We won't be going back to this part of Belize. Oddly enough I found Mexico to be a great deal more enjoyable, although a bit more crowded. I would try Ambergris Caye next time.
