On the backside of the island is a little shanty 'restaurant' called Terry's. We caught barracuda and stone crab on our fishing trip and brought them to him to cook for dinner. They were cooked to utter perfection - the best meal on the island.

Considering the fish and crab was provided by us and we gave him half (which made his day) I thought he charged a bit too much.

He was such fun to talk with. Great food, freaky setting but really really nice guy!

Terry's grill is the complete package for your stay in caye caulker. Terry is a bubbly, hospitable and friendly guy who runs the cafe. He makes you feel welcome and very relaxed.

The food is fresh and cooked to order on the grill in full view which is a nice touch.
Food is priced well, you can get a lobster with rice, beans and coleslaw for $15bz, this also comes with a free glass of rum punch.
Every Sunday there is a live music which creates the perfect atmosphere as you watch the sun set.
Love it's homely, local feel. Highly recommend!

Terry's Caribbean Grill does a great barbecue on the beach in the afternoons and we had some of the shrimp skewers as a snack after coming back from diving. They were great and really filled a gap!
We later went back to the restaurant which is on the west side of the island and a great spot to watch sunset in the evening. The grilled fish and jerk chicken were great and the rum punch washed it all down nicely. A great place for a birthday dinner and they asked us to sign the wall afterwards (even though my husband got the year wrong - probably due to the rum punch!).

No lavish dining or even walls for that matter. An old grill, a weathered picnic table combined with fresh, authentic, and amazing local cuisine are what makes Terry's special. Hang with local personalities who will share stories and beers alike. You will feel like a local before you even finish your meal.

Terry is a super great guy...no question there ! But the food is a dif thing ...esp if you eat at his place instead of beach BBQ. I visted 3 times over 9 days. His seated place was just around the corner from where I stayed. The first night I walked over and ordered the whole snapper ...Terry is so nice... seemed like he had had a couple cocktails but big deal...his helper was doing the cooking... recommended the fish w veggies..rice & beans and plantains. The 18$ price ended up being more on the bill but didnt worry about it. The fish was good... there were veggies and thought must be norm for 22$B..no plantains but just thought they forgot. A couple nights later me and my fishing buddies take our fresh fish there to be cooked. I ask Terry to cook our fish loaded with veggies and terry says he will also add some spicey sauce on the edges so we can mix. My buddy tells terry how his wife loves plantains (they have visited a few times and know terry) Terry said he had had a couple drinks the other night and asked if I got plantains..i said no but no big deal...he aplogized and promised we would have the best meal tonight. I asked terry for coleslaw instead of rice and beans and no prob. Again it seems like everyone has had a few cocktails but....
We get our fish and not a veg to be found lol..salted all to hell..so overcooked ...served w rice and beans and lumpy taters..no plantains even thought they are hanging by kitchen and no slaw.. some slaw does arrive when the young fellow cooking comes by... he seems to be the only one not buzzing. Otherwise the cooks have a drink in one hand and smoke in the other...again really nice guys but... we just went with the flow... time to pay and terry says 18 for the fish (each) and then our drinks...I reminded terry that WE BROUGHT our own fresh fish ...didnt bother telling him he forgot plantains and any veg as he was pretty wasted... so then he apologizes and says how about 8 bucks each... we paid..were polite..and whatever\
then saturday rolls around and not as many places open on a saturday in october...so go and order the jerk chicken ... i ask if i could have extra veggies and the one fellow says he just made a pasta salad and it is loaded w veg...ok... terry does not cook at this place..he has help for this now... and this is the downside... so i have a cold beer as i wait... again the guys are super nice... but the young fellow cooking tries to rush the chicken so is constantly cutting at it and it is so very dry and not much flavour... the guy making the sides always has a smoke in one hand and drink in the other so no veg to be found...kinda dirty...terry is just coming around and seems a bit far away
the dinner is pretty rough ... and the bill changes each visit ...esp as the guys have more drinks...

if you want a great visit...stop and have a beer ....you might get lucky w dinner... kinda a cross your fingers and check your bill place.... otherwise keep walking and try Meldy's
