He knows the water, he cares about conservation, he won't overfish an area even if he knows it will produce because the guy is the real deal. I have been on local expeditions in South America and Central America and so I did not expect a lot out of this guy but just wanted a few hours on the water. We caught just about every species of fish we would hope to catch including a permit and a dozen tarps. It was insane. One of the most quality fishing days I've ever had, and not in a 44 foot Cabo with a bunch of white expats but in a small custom built flats boat with a local guide that knows fishing as well as any privileged recreational fishing fanatic, and he taught us a lot about the country and the culture and about his own family to boot. Perfect day.

Went on a couple of trips with Raf in May 2014. Weather was messed up the first trip with the wind from the north and right after a major storm. We found hundreds of bonefish, but only caught a few. They were not biting due to the weather change, but it was obvious from the number of fish that we saw that we would have caught a lot under better conditions. We also caught a few other types of fish casting and trolling. We did a night trip after the weather settled down and fishing was better. My daughter and I each caught a tarpon and hooked several more. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about fishing the area from Raf.

Found Barefoot after having trouble booking with another fishing guide on the island, and we are so glad we did!! Started with a half-day spin-casting fishing trip on a very windy day. Our guide Rafael was easy-going, amazingly knowledgable and willing to help in every way. He knew the perfect spots for bonefish, especially where they may congregate during high winds. He took the time to explain everything about the fish, helping the fisherman learn the best ways to cast for and hook one. He told us many interesting facts about the area during our ride, and used our time wisely. The boat was large, new and comfortable, especially for those "along for the ride", like myself.

We had such a great time that we booked an additional night-time fishing trip a couple of days later. Once again, Raf knew exactly where to go for the perfect tarpon fishing- they were literally jumping all around our boat! He was a masterful guide- when a tarpon was hooked, he coached the fisherman perfectly during the fight to bring in the fish. He was not strict with time, giving the fisherman the time it took to really learn the fishing techniques and have a full experience. He was constantly prepping new rods/ lures and helping to give the fisherman the experience of a lifetime. We had so much fun with Rafael, as you can see from our pics. Even though we came to CC for the snorkeling, these fishing trips turned out to be the best excursions we had.

The best part about Barefoot is that they are NATIVES- they truly KNOW the area and the fish that live in it. They are constantly tracking the fish's movements so that they have an idea of the best fishing spots at the moment. They are also interested in conservation; making sure that there are fish to be caught in the future, helping to make sport-fishing a boon for the local economy. Do not look any further for a fishing guide- Rafael and Barefoot are the only choice.

We had one of the best days on the water ever. We fished the morning, had a great shore lunch, then went snorkeling in the afternoon. This was the best day of our trip. Thanks Raf, we will be back
