In the middle of nowhere paradise w/ 8 waterfront rooms with amazing views. With not much to work with, rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. Food is average. Grounds are quite limited because it's an atoll. Biggest issue is sand fleas, mosquitoes, Dr. flies and green heads. Off is a must or you'll suffer. Bring your own dive equipment as rental fees are double usual rates.

We are a couple of global fly fishers, both for fresh and salt water.
We have been travelling through out many countries and fishing lodges, looking for fishing oportunities associated to tourism and a trip to TLATS was always being considered, what we did this May, 2013. And we can state: was the best fishing operation we ever experienced in a remote fishing lodges. The reception at Belize City airport, the transfer to the lodge in a very safe and well manteined yacht, the reception at the lodge, everyting was TOP.
TLATS is located in a amazing point of the Atoll and the cottages are large, simple and imacullated clean, with a freezing air-conditioner and hot water running from the tap. A must in so remote location! The main lodge, with a well apointed restaurant, free internet and a well come bar was the meeting point of the guests - fishermen, divers and explorers. The food is also tastefull and well presented and all the staff was the more helpfull we ever met in our fishing trips.
But the principal atribute of the lodge is: LOCATION!!!!
Surrounded by flats, mongroves and waters coloured from the baby blue to turquoise, we found ourselves fishing on the heaven grounds...And after fishing, relaxing with a drink in the never end pool.
We're there for bonefishing and although the wather conditions were not the best the week we choosed - with some overcast skies and to breeze - we can caught and release plenty of them, some with honest 4 pounds, moreover some cudas and snappers on the coral reefs.
We only have good words to Craig and Kim, as to Jedi (fishing director) and Michael, our calm and patient guide, who put us on the fish.
Luiz and Jack, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

PS: TFLATS is for travellers, not for tourists.
If you love shoppings, fashion restaurants, night clubs, loud music and dancing, please, do not go to TFLATS. You'd better stay in Miami Beach.

Wow - great service, Wow- great diving, Wow - wonderful facilities. This is a wonderful full place and with excellent diving but the staff top the list of Wows... We have over 300 logged dives and this is the best best place yet. The rooms were nice, appropriately furnished for divers and very, very clean.

The staff will go way out of their way to make your stay perfect. We had a relative that was a finalist on the Voice and they put together a Danielle watch party complete with food and satellite TV. We never guessed we could watch the show in the middle of the ocean... but they made it happen.

Again, top notch staff in every category and they all seemed to love their jobs.

My wife and I returned home on May 4th, 2013 after 7 days of wonderful snorkeling and adventure treks.

I will let others talk about the food and lodging which was great. We also stayed at Turneffe Island Resort 4 years ago, and we both feel TF is a much better value, nicer rooms, and a more caring staff. The added benefit to TF is the Atoll Adventure program run by Abel Coe.
I want to focus on the snorkeling. During our stay there, we surpassed 100 vacation days of dedicated snorkeling. My wife and I have been on dedicated snorkel vacations for the last 20 years.

For our week, there were 5 of us in the adventure program; most were fly fishing, and one scuba diver. Abel our guide was simply the best guide for three reasons: 1 - his knowledge above and below the water, 2 - his ability to find creatures, and 3 - his willingness to share his knowledge. His ability to dive down and show us many things one might miss or understand about the reef. As an added bonus, the group should let Abel carry their best camera, as he will take superb photos that everyone can share back at the lodge. In the evenings Abel does a slide show talking in more detail about what was seen that day. The quality of his abilities - is readily apparent, when a diver viewed his pictures, he said, "A snorkeler took these?" It was easy at the lodge to share photos with their computer – bring a USB stick for your camera cards.

Each day we went to a different location on the Atoll based upon the weather and different coral profiles. The variety and quality of the reefs was outstanding. You leave at 8:30am and return anywhere from 3 to 4pm. You have a nice lunch packed for you and there is water, limeade and cookies onboard. The morning snorkel usually lasted 2 hours, and the afternoon about 1.5 hours. On the way to the snorkel locations you might look for dolphins, crocodiles, manatees, and many birds. We saw all of this while we were there. Lunch was usually on board in a quiet cove. After a leisurely lunch, you went to the second snorkel site. After we returned, I went out and snorkeled in front of the resort, there are wonderful coral heads just 50 feet from the dock.

I would strongly recommend two things for future snorkelers, a 3 mil dive suit, and an inflatable snorkel vest. We always wear our 3mil suits and never regret it. I got hot a few times, and cooled easily by letting in some water. But most others were cold after 2 hours in the water. We loaned out what extra we had, lycra suits and hoods – they helped out. If you do get cold, you are never that far from the boat and can swim back, warm up and wait for the rest of the group. The inflatable vest is a great comfort in clearing your mask, resting or watching, and floating above shallow reefs without hitting them.

The snorkeling depth varies from 18 inches to 60 feet, almost all with little or no current, the deeper locations had a little wave action. This is VERY normal for viewing all the coral profiles. You are not going to see massive barrel sponges in 12 feet of water but are plentiful in 45-60 feet deep there. The grass and sand flats are also studied and it was amazing how much life resides there. It is not an exaggeration that Abel dives down a 100 times during the day pointing out new stuff all the time.

The night jungle walk was fantastic – take your bug spray – you can’t use too much…

The owners of the resort, Craig and Karen Hayes are onsite and everyone knows your name by dinner on the first day. Very few of the resorts we have gone to have their owners’ onsite – it usually means a wonderful run operation – and we were not disappointed.

We hope to return again...

Small and intimate resort away from civilization. Their wifi did not work reliably. So we were off the grids. We had a good mixture of divers, anglers and adventurers. Unfortunately we had strong wind blowing all the week and it limited both diving and fishing possibilities. Sighting of bunch of Black-tip sharks compensated the poor viz. Our Blue Hole excursion had quite rough passage and poor visibility because of that. We had 9 divers in our group and maximum number of divers are 12. Our new diver Nick had problem with ears after 2 days of diving, and could not dive the rest of week. Their instructor was off the island, therefore one of our divers could not take an Advanced Class. It was a bummer. The best food we had was conch flitters as appetizer, and we all wished we could have that every day! Food was American with Caribbean flavor. I personally could have enjoyed better if they offer more seafood.

Room Tip: Their reef cabana with 3 bed rooms did not have enough capacity for multiple shower so that we had t...

If you are looking for world class snorkeling, fly fishing and diving, this is the place for you! Turneffe Flats does not accommodate many guests at any one time, so they are all about personal service. The guides are top notch, and do everything to ensure that you are well taken care of.

It is not fancy-remember that you are on an atoll located 30 miles from Belize City. But the rooms are clean, pleasant and spacious. The food is delicious and plentiful. The choices are limited, so if you have any dietary issues, you'd best check with the management before booking to make sure they have available what you require.

Our time at Turneffe Flats was amazing! We originally chose to stay here because we thought it would be a great mix of diving, fishing, snorkeling for my husband and I and our two great friends that we traveled with and T-Flats did not disappoint! The staff is equally as amazing... everyone from the front of the house staff to the dive masters, fishing and atoll adventure guides and the owners of course. The food was SO good too for every meal and the family-style dining gives you the opportunity to mingle and get to know the other guests. I loved our time here and Turneffe Flats will always be my "Happy Place". I can hardly wait to plan our next trip! Thank you Jad, Cameron, Lilly, Abel, DanRoy, PoohBear, Karen and Craig!

Room Tip: Beach Cabanas 7&8 because of the way they are angled, give you the feeling you are on your own p...
