Owner description: Charlie's Tours are very educational, ecological-oriented and adequate for school kids and students of all ages. Charlie offers an excellent ecological tour on the trails just prior to having to tube through the mysterious caves where the Maya priests once prayed to and worshiped the Gods of the Underworld. At Charlie's Cave Tubing we cater especially to our Eco-friendly guests. We are very serious about the conservation and preservation of the caves. We are sure you will find this a very relaxing and pleasant experience.

We chose this excursion instead of one offered through Carnival, since we had younger children in our party and Charlie's offered tubes with mesh bottoms. Had to ask a security guard where to find the guys from Charlie's, but once we found them, after getting off the ship rather late, they took our group of 5 to the caves and we had a wonderful, refreshing tour through the amazing caves. They kept our belongings safely locked in Jesus's van, hid wife rode along so she could stay with them to keep our stuff safe. He was super friendly and informative on our hr and thirty Mon drive into the jungle. Our guide on the tour was wonderful as well, and got us back to the ship on time! Highly recommend this tour company!

My cousin, Amy, and I decided to go on a Carnival cruise in the Western Caribbean this year. Once we booked the cruise, we started looking at excursions and soon decided that cave tubing was a must for our brief time in Belize. We did our research online, including readingTripadvisor.com to look over the numerous tours for cave tubing in Belize. There lots of reviews, lots of opinions and one thing that seemed to be common was support for Charlie's touring company.

We were very pleased with choosing Charlie's Cave Tubing. Charlie's employee, Junior, served as our guide and picked us up after a brief wait for members of our group, who never showed up. There were only 4 of us in our group and we were taken in an air conditioned van to the cave tubbing site. On the way, Junior told us about Belize and answered the questions we had about his country, culture and cave tubing. The drive was about 30 minutes or so to get to the caves and we changed in fairly large bathrooms at the site. After changing, we started the 35 minute trek to get to the river that leads into the caves. The scenery was beautiful on the way to pick up the tubes and we ended up seeing a coatimundi in the forest (an animal in the raccon family). As promised by Charlie, we did not, like most tours, have to carry our own tubes on the trails for 30 or 40 minutes like many of the other tours, including the one for Carnival Cruise. Early on, we did cross over a small river with a rope, that you can use to guide you along to the other sidel---however the water was very gentle and I didn't need it for crossing.

Once we got to the area to start the tour, their were loads of people. This was the only downside to our tour and something out of Junior (and Charlie's control). We got into our tubes and Junior guided us through the amazing caves, telling us about them as we floated along. It was hard to hear him, though, because of the loud members of others groups. All of the other tours ended earlier than ours while Junior allowed us to float down further and enjoy some of the river without so many large people. This part of the tour was nice and quiet and much appreciated! After we finished the tour, we did carry our tubes for the remainder of the time, which amounted to a small 5 minute walk. We changed and were then treated to lunch (chicken, rice, salad and punch) before starting back to Belize City. We got back in plenty of time to shop and to get our passports stamped at the small immigration building at Terminal 4.

We were very pleased with Charlie's Cave Tubing and would (and hope) to do it again. We met Charlie briefly in the morning when we first got to the meeting area for the van. His tour is half the cost of Carnival, includes lunch and a drink, gives you extra time on the river, and is great for smaller groups---some of the other groups, including Carnival's group, were much larger. I recommend Charlie (and give a shout out to Junior!) for a great cave tubing tour!

P. S. I would have added actual photos of the tubing tour but my waterproof camera wouldn't charge before leaving the ship. I advise using a waterproof camera because, although you may not fall in the water, its always a possibility and you wouldn't want to damage an expensive camera!

Did this as a cruise excursion and absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend Charlie's Cave Tubing over other cave tubing places.
The service is unbeatable. Our tour guide was Alberto and he was phenomenal. He quickly befriended all of us and we were entertained the whole drive to the tubing place. There is a decent hike to get to the place where you begin tubing and we learned so much from him along the way. He was raised in the jungle so he knew so much about the wildlife and plants. He was also very funny and entertaining.
Also, with Charlie's Cave Tubing, you don't have to carry your tube the whole hike. I noticed other tubing places made you do that which is pretty annoying.
After tubing, we got to eat lunch which was actually very good. It was chicken and rice and beans.
Charlie's cave tubing feels very authentic. These are local people who count on tourism to make a living. It is good to support people like this instead of using Carnival or some rich American company, and the experience feels much more authentic and not so commercial.

Charlie Chan found his calling when he started guiding guests through the limestone river caves of Belize. The experience is a great one - we booked a full day tour flying out of San Pedro to Belize Municipal, were met by Charlie and his enthusiastic son Bret, and did cave tubing, zip lining and a visit to the Maya ruins at Alta Hun.

The activities and sites are great, but you're missing out on a wealth of history, culture and politics if you don't ask Charlie follow-up questions, that he's more than happy to chat away about - all delivered with charm and tremendous humor. Charlie is Mayan, and his family's story is an important part of the social-cultural fabric of Belize.

While other tour operators move to the big house, and delegate the guiding to employees, Charlie enjoys welcoming you to his country, sharing its history and exposing you to its culture. Accept no substitutes - go on a tour with Charlie or his sons Brian and Bret, and really get a Belizean experience. You won't regret it.

Great company. Great guides. Easy to book, pay, and experience even if on limited time with cruise. Cruise excursion more expensive, bigger groups, and shorter float! Felt safe and supported through entire adventure. Little things make a big difference like their newer tubes with head rests and mesh bottoms. Plus they are snapped together and so you don't have to hold on to each other. You don't have to carry your tubes on the initial hike either. And best of all GREAT people!
