“Great deal for the price”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

The whole city is third world. This hotel is relatively safe and as good as any higher priced hotel in the area, and so is the by the water bar attached to it. Breakfast is included . lots of choices and quite a nice room. Fun casino and poker room. If you are looking for trouble you don't have to go far to find it. I would not suggest walking alone but during the day, the streets feel reasonably safe. A firm consistent "not interested" is best when approached (which was only once but the young man was persistent and aggressive and not in a street vendor fashion, asking us our names etc. it's a fun place to be with lots of interesting pictures to take. I would suggest visiting with a taxi.

This hotel is a good value considering there are very few hotels in Belize City as this is not the main holiday area of the country. The hotels that are available are expensive. This one is too compared to what you get, but cheaper than the rest. Rooms need updating as well as bathrooms. But they are clean and comfortable. Great location and right on the main road in town lining the water. Not a bad place to stay for the money. But there are nicer places. They just cost a lot more.

We spent time before our trip reading all of the reviews as it was our first trip to Belize. The Princess was centrally located so we chose to stay there. It seems that in recent months it received increasingly better reviews but weren't sure what to expect in a developing country.
We were pleasantly surprised! The hotel was clean and odor free. We asked and received a room with a view on the 6th floor. The staff was gracious, courteous, and most helpful. We had NO problem with the room keys nor the elevators. We stayed in Belize City at the Princess for 4 nights and took all our tours from there before going out to the cayes for snorkeling. The breakfasts were expansive and excellent. Dinner at the Calypso was also. We used the beautiful pool one day which appeared to be clean but chilly. I'd have rated the Princess Hotel an excellent but we had to agree with others that the mattresses are in need of upgrading. It also would have been convenient if they could have had a 2nd computer in the business.center.

Room Tip: Definitely request an upper room for the view.

We were sorry we didn't find this place for the first night we were in Belize City. This hotel was clean, well cared for, with good air conditioning. The food in the restaurant was very good (we had dinner and breakfast). The casino was interesting. We enjoyed our stay.

We just stayed in Princess Hotel with three couples for two nights. Revieuws of some hotel sites were mixed and so our expectation were relatively low. We were happily surprised to find a hotel much better than expected : clean and spacious rooms with splendid ocean vieuws, friendly staff, great breakfast included in the room rate, choice of two decent restaurants, one (the Calypso) on a terrace over the waterfront. A very spacious swimming pool, a good fitness centre, ...We do know that the hotel is still in the process of renovating some rooms (on lower levels ?) but we were given excellent rooms on the 5th floor. All of this at good value for money, as most comparable hotels in Belize City (and certainly on San Pedro) are more expensive. The location is a bit further along the waterfront, so comming from the watertaxis it requires a short taxiride, however coming from the airport it is similar than other city hotels.
We certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Although all rooms are oceanfronts, we were informed that the higher floors (5 and 6) were all renov...

We stayed at this hotel on 3 separate nights on a recent trip to Belize. We picked it as it was a safe place to stay, the meals are very good, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Our rooms were clean, but the hotel is getting quite run down. One of the beds in one room was totally worn out, if you sat on the edge of it you sank almost to the floor. The deck around the pool hasn't been cleaned for a long time, the pool itself seemed clean enough. This could be a beautiful hotel with a little more upkeep. The seafood restaurant attached to the hotel, The Calypso, is fantastic!

This is not a good hotel on oh so many counts: the baths in several rooms for our party were poorly maintained, no hot water, etc, with poor service in the dining rooms, and long waits to get a drink at the bar.

Big hotel, so many groups use it, but to be avoided if you can.
