“A real dump!”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

This hotel has been going down hill for a long time, at one time they started working to improve the property. I guess that didn't work out. I decided to give it one more chance. Unbelievable. The coffee machine in the coffee shop did not work, no morning coffee. The shower did not work, the fridge did not work. The machine for room keys was broken, no keys. If all of us left the room we had to get a guard to accompany us back to the room to let us in. There are a couple of nice places in Belize City, this just is not one of them. None of the items listed where fixed before we left. Enough said.

Don't judge the country of Belize by Belize City. The rest of the country is really very beautiful. This hotel was really very nice considering that Belize City is a bit rough. Me and my group of ten cyclist felt quite safe here. The hotel even allowed us to keep our bicycles in our rooms. I would gladly stay here again.

I enjoyed staying in this property. Our work group had a special corporate rate. The room is comfortable and clean. The internet is reliable. The view to the ocean is fantastic, especially at sunrise (get your camera ready!). There is a good desk to work in the room. The pool is nice. The restaurant has a good breakfast buffet included in the rate (yes, they make some changes to the buffet every morning). I have to say the coffee is very good. Some minor issues: in some rooms is hard to balance the hot and cold water, careful!; one person in our group had problems with her room door, it did not close in full, she had to push it very hard. Every evening when the group returned to the hotel, her door would be closed but not shut maybe becuase the cleaning crew did not shut it.

Room Tip: I recommend the 5th and 6th floors.

The whole city is third world. This hotel is relatively safe and as good as any higher priced hotel in the area, and so is the by the water bar attached to it. Breakfast is included . lots of choices and quite a nice room. Fun casino and poker room. If you are looking for trouble you don't have to go far to find it. I would not suggest walking alone but during the day, the streets feel reasonably safe. A firm consistent "not interested" is best when approached (which was only once but the young man was persistent and aggressive and not in a street vendor fashion, asking us our names etc. it's a fun place to be with lots of interesting pictures to take. I would suggest visiting with a taxi.

This hotel is a good value considering there are very few hotels in Belize City as this is not the main holiday area of the country. The hotels that are available are expensive. This one is too compared to what you get, but cheaper than the rest. Rooms need updating as well as bathrooms. But they are clean and comfortable. Great location and right on the main road in town lining the water. Not a bad place to stay for the money. But there are nicer places. They just cost a lot more.

We spent time before our trip reading all of the reviews as it was our first trip to Belize. The Princess was centrally located so we chose to stay there. It seems that in recent months it received increasingly better reviews but weren't sure what to expect in a developing country.
We were pleasantly surprised! The hotel was clean and odor free. We asked and received a room with a view on the 6th floor. The staff was gracious, courteous, and most helpful. We had NO problem with the room keys nor the elevators. We stayed in Belize City at the Princess for 4 nights and took all our tours from there before going out to the cayes for snorkeling. The breakfasts were expansive and excellent. Dinner at the Calypso was also. We used the beautiful pool one day which appeared to be clean but chilly. I'd have rated the Princess Hotel an excellent but we had to agree with others that the mattresses are in need of upgrading. It also would have been convenient if they could have had a 2nd computer in the business.center.

Room Tip: Definitely request an upper room for the view.

We were sorry we didn't find this place for the first night we were in Belize City. This hotel was clean, well cared for, with good air conditioning. The food in the restaurant was very good (we had dinner and breakfast). The casino was interesting. We enjoyed our stay.
